Tougher than 'poly'
I used Membrain on the exterior walls of our master bedroom. I liked how sturdy the material was in comparison to wimpy, non-permeable polyethylene. It was folded accordion style which facilitated its installation. Would use this product again for any other remodeling and for new construction.

Wow is this stuff tough!!!!
I am building a green house off of my hay barn and as difficult it was to work almost up side down this produce was easily handles and easily went up! We had 5 days is 60 plus mph winds which made me believe I would have to be Replacing any moment, but to my surprise there was NOT A SINGLE RIP, TEAR OR CRUMPLE IN MY 10x50 ceiling!!!

great layer of protection for in wall.
We had mold in our garage, so after removing the sheet-rock, cleaning the mold out and waiting for it to dry, I applied some of this MemBrain.Easy to install, and so far its doing all it says it will. Its nice to know its in the wall, keeping us safe.

Worth the money!
Great, strong product. No off-gassing. Really easy to put up. Not flimsy. Does not tear when stapling. Easy to cut. Well worth the money for a smart membrane and not having to worry about mold issues.

Good results. Do not use over faced insulation
We wanted an extra vapor barrier, but also wanted to cover our fiberglass insulation and prevent fibers floating around the house. It worked great on the floor - I know we should really build up the insulation, but we're trying to use the attic as storage so we laid a layer of this down and now it won't be disturbed when we climb up there. Nice and thick, not easy to tear.My impression is that it's a more effective vapor barrier than your normal roll of polyethylene (though a bit more expensive). I have a ton left over and am looking forward to finding other uses for it (someone said they used it for a greenhouse? Curious how that worked).Unfortunately, everything in the rafters was faced insulation (as it should be), but applying this would result i a double moisture barrier potentially doing the opposite of what it was intended (trapping the moisture). So we had to resort to Plan B (and C and D) on the rafters. We tried a couple different things, paper, double-wide duck tape (just to seal in the edges). I had also thought about polystyrene board on top of the insulation, to seal it in, but I believe that would also result in the double moisture barrier problem. In the end, I believe one you install faced insulation, you're just not supposed to put anything else on top of it.

Sturdy barrier, clear directions.
There is plenty of material in this roll of barrier, so you can finish a whole wall without seams..The barrier comes with instructions that are brief and to the point. Most roll insulation has a paper backing that is water resistant but from one roll to the next, you end up with an overlapping seam. That works fine, but if you want a complete vapor barrier, use this product. It is applied and stretched tight, before the sheet rock goes on.Whatever method you choose for insulating, you can hang the sheet of vapor barrier to cover the whole wall.Polysheeting can rip out of your fasteners, but this product holds firmly. To apply, unroll from one wall to the next, with extra inches on each side, Start by stapling it across the top stud plate, then let it unfold into place, stretch it tight, and finish stapling across the bottom. Staple along a few of the studs as well, to keep the barrier just where you want it, eliminating wrinkles.Do the same with each wall.Time will tell if this Vapor Retarder Barrier will be as effective as we hope, but due to the nature of the barrier, and the ease of application, we have confidence that the barrier will keep that unwanted moisture in check. It should also keep winter drafts out of the interior, because of its being seamless.

Works well and easy to put up. Don't forget to check for local rebates.
Though more expensive than traditional vapor barrier, CertainTeed's MemBrain has provided us with good results. With 2mil thickness, the product is easy to lay out and attach. Its advantage over generic products is the product's ability to alter permeability dependent upon humidity. In the winter, it has low permeability, preventing moisture from entering from the outside. In the summer, it has increased permeability, keeping the interior dry by allowing moisture to escape. We used it in basement and bathroom applications and have seen no negative consequences. The energy savings and reduction in mold development alone should easily pay for the cost differential of this over that of generic poly. There was no rebate from my local power company, but you may find otherwise in your area and it's worth a trip to CertainTeed's website to find out if there are local rebates that might apply for you.

Much Better Than Visqueen or Standard Plastic Sheeting
This is much better than standard visqueen or plastic sheeting for an interior vapor barrier in homes. This in a great alternative because it allows moisture in the form of water vapor to migrate out the wall cavity when needed. Standard plastic does not. It also is variable in the amount it lets thru depending the vapor pressures present. I think this is great for Northern climates, but is not usually used in the hot and humid southern states. CertainTeed is a well know manufacturer that may be best know for its roofing shingles. It also makes some other great products too and this is one of them. Great performance. Easy to staple up. Low static electricity. 5 stars.
