Artists' Grade Gamsol Oil Color Size: 16.9 oz

Odorless mineral sprits. Works just like odorless mineral spirits. Thins, cleans brushes even without odor!

If you paint with oils, this stuff is essential. I'm not quite sure what more I can add. I use two kinds of thinner: this stuff gamsol and also lavender oil, which is wonderful but incredibly expensive. I use both. If you are painting oil and you need to cut the thick stuff that comes out of the tube, this is the correct thing to use. Pricewise it is fairly priced.

Absolutely zero order, smells like nothing. After awhile it will start to take on odor from the paint sediment, but I can use the same jar for about 6 or 8 months without needing to change it out.

This is an excellent solvent for colored pencils! Take a paintbrush, wet the paintbrush either by dipping it in gamsol or dipping a bit of paper towel in the gamsol and wetting the brush with it, then dab the brush on the paper towel to absorb any excess (you don't need a ton of solvent, less can be more). Then gently and carefully paint the areas you would like to blend. Make sure the area you'd like to blend has plenty of pigment and layers on it already, and you'll be able to fill in the white spots really nicely. If it doesn't have enough pigment, the solvent will just push the colors around and make it look light/patchy but if you have enough, it will be fine and blend things beautifully. Also be careful and blend starting from light to dark and wipe the paintbrush off every so often to avoid your drawing getting muddy from dark colors blending into lighter areas. The attached picture shows a drawing of hair before using gamsol on the left and after using it on the right (the outer parts that still have white spots are just areas where I hadn't used it yet)

The only negative thing I can say is that I bought the Gamsol Oil after I had already finished two oil and cold wax paintings (which I'm just learning the technique). On the next two, I added the oil to only two colors, yellow and orange for the sun. The G. oil makes the finished colors kind of glisten which was my intent to use it on the sun and its effects. I just love how creamy it makes the texture of the oil and cold wax.

Works very well as an extender for oil paints.

I'm new to oil painting but Very pleased. No oder that I can detect and will definitely buy and use to clean my brushes and wash effects with my paintings.

I had to purchase this for an oil painting class I took. It's basically used to thin out the oil paint and it works great! It doesn't change the color of the paint and it's easy to clean up. I made a lot of paintings during that class so this was very helpful in making my oil paints last longer and get more use out of them.
