OMG, I am totally obsessed with the HOT TOOLS Pro Artist 24K Gold Curling Iron (1/2 in) that I got from Amazon! Like, seriously, this thing is a game-changer for my hair routine. I was kinda nervous about spending my allowance on it, but it’s SO worth it! First off, the curls it makes are legit perfect. They’re super tight and defined, and they actually last all day, even when I’m running around at school or hanging out with friends. The 24K gold barrel thingy makes it heat up fast and evenly, so I don’t have to wait forever to start curling. Plus, it doesn’t fry my hair like my old cheap curler did—my ends still feel soft and healthy! It’s also really easy to use, even for someone like me who’s not a pro at doing hair. The 1/2 inch barrel is awesome for getting those cute, bouncy curls I see on TikTok. The grip is comfy, and it has this cool dial to adjust the heat, so I can make it just right for my hair. Oh, and it comes with a little glove to protect your hand, which is clutch because I’m always accidentally burning myself, lol. Shipping from Amazon was super fast, and the packaging was all good—no damage or anything. For real, this curling iron is giving me all the confidence to rock my curls at school. If you’re thinking about getting it, DO IT! It’s honestly the best hair tool I’ve ever used, and I’m lowkey obsessed. 5 stars all the way!

I have super thick, wavy long hair and this curling iron is a must have for others with hair like mine. For all my life I have used a cheap $10 revlon curling iron and have completely given up on the concept of ever curling my hair. I always thought a good curling iron would cost a fortune. I saw this on sale for $33 here at amazon and I decided to give it a try. I absolutley LOVE it. I just got it in the mail yesterday, which was perfect timing because I was planning on curling my hair for my boyfriends birthday dinner. I posted photos of how thick my hair usually is (its brushed out and poofy, but it is naturally super wavy) vs right after curling. The curls didnt stay tight, they sort of turned into a loose curl (which is exactly what I wanted) but I think if I wanted a tighter curl, itd be best to hold for longer. The XL barrel really helps with long hair, mine goes a few inches past my elbows. I chose the 1-1/4 inch barrel because I read somewhere that it will give nice loose curls on longer hair. This size was perfect for my desired loose curl look. My favorite part is the "swivel tip" which you hold with your other hand and literally twist the iron to roll your hair on! This makes it so your hair is tight to the barrel. This iron gets REALLY hot, 430 degrees. My hair curls just fine at 380 degrees, holding for about 5 seconds. I did try it at 480 and after a second or two you can see the steam roll off your hair so I suggest starting off at a lower heat and only using maximum heat if you have unimaginably stubborn hair. However even at max heat I saw no damage. It used to take me over an hour to curl my hair and it only took me 20 minutes! I lightly sprayed the curls after curling them, and they stayed in all night. I highly reccomend this curling iron. It was one of my best purchases for the entire year and if you are debating on getting this, just buy it now!

I'm the kind of girl who has no problem dropping a load of cash on a hair appliance if I think it's what will work best for my very long, very thick, very coarse hair. I've used all the top brands, from Chi to GDH - everything, and my most expensive curling iron was over $150. So I feel like a bit of an idiot to discover that this Hot Tools XL is less that $40 (including tax and delivery), considering it's the best curling iron I've ever used. Yes, dramatic statement, but there's no way to understate the greatness of this curling iron for women with hair like mine. It no longer takes two tries to make one curl (with regular length barrels, my hair was too long to curl the entire length at once). The extra length is amazing, and because I bought the 1.5 inch, my curls are always loose and bouncy, never tight. I do have a few tips, however, for anyone considering purchasing this: 1. It gets very hot if you turn it up to maximum heat. Even if you're confident that your hair can handle it, start with less heat the first few curls to get a sense of how it really is for you. This might be the hottest curling iron I've ever used. That being said, my hair likes the maximum heat, but it took a few curls before I learned how much hair I liked per curl, and how long to hold the hair in the iron. Better to be safe than sorry. 2. Another reviewer complained about the clip not going all the way up the barrel, and she gave the curling iron a 1-star because of this. My question is, why do you need the clip to go all the way up? If your technique is correct, you only need a clip at the bottom of the iron to hold the ends of your hair in place. As you wind the curling iron up your hair, your hair should lie flat against the iron, and you should be pulling the iron away from your head a little to give your hair a very gentle stretch. No full length clip is needed - and with the length of this barrel, a full clip would be really long, super clunky, and you'd risk burning your face with it. I mean, think about it. Even when I've used irons that had full length clips, my hair was wrapped around the OUTSIDE of the majority of the clip anyway, secured only at the ends. 3. For the best, most long-lasting curls, remember that you can technically use a curling iron as a flat iron, too. That's how I used to do it back in the day before they made flat irons! The best curls happen when you straighten AS you curl (which is why curls made with actual flat irons last forever). Here's what I mean: Take the section of hair you intend to curl, and starting near the top (closer to the roots), use the curling iron like a flat iron to smooth the section of hair from top to bottom. When you reach the bottom, clip the ends and then spiral the iron to make a curl like you normally would. Because you straightened it first, your hair should be extra flat and smooth as it's wrapped around the iron. Hold for however long you need, and then release. I find that smoothing the hair shaft first from top to bottom and then making a curl keeps the curls extra smooth, extra shiny, and they last all day - without any hairspray. (If you're a newbie to this technique, try it first without any heat - but this technique is a game changer).

When my BedHead curling iron I've been using for the past several years finally died on me, I went searching for a new one. I had been using and iron with a 1.5 inch barrel, mostly for curling the ends of my hair in. I have thick hair, that I tend to let get very long before finally cutting it. I'm usually looking to just curl the hair under for a finished look and to add volume, rather than using an iron to make actual curls in my hair. I ordered this 2 inch barrel Hot Tools iron to see how it would work for how I style my hair, and I found I really like it. It gives my hair the look of sweeping inward, without a stark contrast to the top part of my hair that the iron isn't curling. I love how much volume I get when using this iron on all my hairs layers separately, and I especially like how it works to give my hair direction, more than curls. The power cord doesn't tangle and the temperature controls are small and out of the way. I appreciate that Hot Tools has constructed this iron by separately screwing in thumb clamp, and not just using the little metal stand to hold it in. I'h had irons in the past, where the little metal stand you use to prop up the iron is actually what holds the thumb clamp to the iron itself. So if something happens and the little stand gets knocked off, the whole iron falls apart. Not so with this Hot Tools curling iron. The metal stand is attached to the thumb clamp, but there are separate screws in it that actually hold the whole iron together. So that means even if the metal stand that holds the iron up from burning your bathroom sink was to come off, the iron will still work and stay together. And actually, it's easy to take the stand off and put it back on if need be. The only thing I would change about this is even with the setting on the highest, it doesn't feel like it it's getting quite as hot as other irons I've used. So while I find it works great on freshly washed and dried hair, if I take my shower the night before and try and style my hair with it the next morning instead, my hair doesn't come out as well. The iron doesn't get quite hot enough to smooth out the results of bed-head hair. If it would just get a little hotter, it would be perfect!

The highest setting is 430 degrees, which is the one I use for my thick hair. It heats to temperature in under five minutes, making it convenient to use during your morning routine. One drawback of this curling iron is that it does not have an automatic shut off timer, but if you are careful about shutting it off and unplugging it after use, then this shouldn’t be a problem. Curling your hair is quick and easy with this curling iron. Within minutes, you can change straight, boring hair into beautiful loose curls with volume. The curls are soft and shiny, not frizzy. This is an excellent curling iron! Get's hotb really fast and it curls my stubborn, fine hair. The buttons aren't in the way! The cord swivels!

The extra length on the barrel is very useful! I can curl my hair in about 1/3 if the time I was spending previously. Before with a regular barrel I’d have to curl each section of hair twice (bottom portion and then closer to the root as there was too much hair by the time you wrapped it around the barrel to work effectively). I would caution on watching the heat setting. I think bc there was so much hair around the regular barrel the heat didn’t get to the strands as much. Now bc the strands are directly on the barrel I think it got too hot. I noticed breakage near the roots about 3” down. I have lowered the heat setting and haven’t noticed any additional breakage. One person commented on the clip not extending to the end of the barrel. This is definitely not an issue bc your hair doesn’t go under the clip. You only use the clip to secure the end of the section and then roll. If you are using it correctly this shouldn’t be an issue. A long clip would only get in the way. Both ends have a rotating swirl tip. My old one had it on the cord end which is great bc the cord doesn’t get tangled but I hadn’t experienced it on the end of the barrel. When I first opened the package I thought it was going to be a pain but to my surprise it’s an amazing addition to the iron! You don’t have to flip you wrist and let go to turn the iron around (if that makes sense).. you can just roll it all the way up the section. I prefer the gold barrel over the other options they have. My hair slides easily and doesn’t stick to the barrel with the gold one. This was a very worthy purchase. I’d recommend and I’m glad I went out on a limb and bought it. For reference my hair is fine but very thick. (Lots of strands). The texture is medium curly (not wavy but not a stubborn curl) I usually blow it out straight prior to using the iron and always use heat protecting products. The length is about half way down my back.

I ordered my previous hot tools pro artist curling iron but obviously they stopped making it because this is what they sent me. it is nice but the barrel is too long and i have burnt my fingers several times now curling my short hair. it heats up fast which is good but for me with the longer barrel it is hard to handle. I wish I could get my previous curling iron again.

I have been a long-time lover of Conair products and got my first taste of a professional hot tool a couple years ago when I was sent a high-end hair dryer (HanaAir) to review through my blog. It blew me away (literally!) and it was amazing how much better it was and how it cut my drying time in half than a cheaper version or brand. I also have a Ceramix hair straightener which I love and would recommend a professional product for a flat iron as well. Curling irons are a different story though. I have very fine hair that doesn't seem to hold a curl. Despite using a ceramic curling iron with adjustable heat (usually put at the highest heat setting), I just was not getting the curl I desired. I have multiple Conair ceramic curling irons from Walmart, in various sizes ranging from 1/2" - 2". I kept hoping for results I would see on other girls online without having to pay the price for a professional tool. I was so wrong. It's been several years since I've been using those curling irons and it just got to the point where I wouldn't really bother curling my hair because the curl wouldn't last past noon, despite using hair spray or products in my hair. :Enter the Hot Tools 1181, 1" curling iron. I'm in love!!! I have seen many, many, MANY girls/beauty gurus on YouTube and blogs using this brand and iron. I thought how much difference could it really make. Let me tell you, a HUGE DIFFERENCE. I got the iron and was exciting to try it. I had watched some tutorials online and am familiar with various ways to curl my hair, but no expert by any means (I still get hair envy! ;). I learned that since my hair is fine and soft, I should not heat it all the way (this baby goes up to 430degrees, I believe). So I kept it around the 250-275degrees mark and that worked really well. I sprayed my hair with a heat protectant first and got to work. Sectioning off my hair, I started with the bottom and worked around and then up, around and up... and so on. The first thing I noticed is how quickly it curls the hair. I used to hold my hair around the barrel of my Conair irons for 20 seconds, or more, and still not get the desired results! With my Hot Tools, I count to 8 and it's a perfect curl. Hold longer for a tighter curl but be careful not to singe you hair. The curls lasted me into the evening, even after work my hair still had a wave to it, despite working all day and working out at lunch time! It really works well. Bottom line: it curls the hair fast and holds the curl. I think the 1" is a great size to start with if you're looking for a medium tight curl or a beachy wave, you can obtain both with this curling iron. I am considering getting another size in the future, I'll definitely stick with this brand.
