I really liked how this dvd covers the creation of the universe ...
I really liked how this dvd covers the creation of the universe from before the Big Bang to modern day. I've watched/listened to lectures and read articles before, but it's always been over my head. This program covers the how energy and gasses were formed beautifully, and I actually think I got it! I can now go back to the one lecture and listen again and pick up more details. The dvd also gathers up the past to present progress nicely and links it all together. And it covers the progression of mankind pretty well in two hours. I'm actually convinced it was less than two hours mind you, more like an hour and forty minutes.

Should be a ten-star rating at least......
I first saw this program on either the Science or H2 channel, can't remember which. It is the most amazing program I have EVER SEEN, bar none. They've condensed the entire 13.7+ billion years of the universe and the 4.7+ billion years of the earth's existence into an information packed 2-hr program. You will want to watch this show over and over again, because there is so much information in it, that you will surely learn something new each time you see it. Nothing has ever put it all-the physical and human development processes- into such a poignant and cogent framework. This should be a must see program in all middle and high schools, possibly even earlier. If believe that after seeing this program you'll feel that you have a much better grasp of where mankind has come from and how; and, where we are likely to be headed as a species. Two thumbs up, way up!Hope this helps, Dennis

A Rapid-Fire History of Our Planet
I found this single disc DVD, produced by the History Channel, to be very interesting and worthwhile. It's a monumental task to explore 13.7 billion years of earth's history in just 2 hours! As the cover introduction tells us, we will get the entire story of where we came from and how we got to where we are now. It tells an epic story in a brilliantly concise but understandable and thorough manner. If you find COSMOS to be too long (over 9 hours) for your attention span, this "rapid fire view of history" may be just what you're looking for: earth's history "from the Big Bang to the present day" covered in (actually) about 90 minutes in a manner that is understandable, lucid and intelligible.

History of the World in Two Hours
I initially decided to watch the History Channel's documentary, 'History of the World in Two Hours' just to confirm my skepticism that it would not even come close to achieving its purpose. Not only was I proven wrong; I was so impressed that I immediately went on-line and purchased the CD which, by eliminating the commercials, actually abridges 13.7 billion years of history into 1 hour and 28 minutes while managing to entertain, educate, and astound in such a clever, simple format that my adult children and adolescent grandchildren enjoyed it as much as I.If you're curious to know why stars had to die so that we humans could live, the critical role bacteria played in the creation of life, or how fire and grass expedited human and social evolution, and many more such bits of scientific knowledge, I highly recommend that you invest an hour and a half of your time in watching this documentary.

I really enjoyed this! However
I really enjoyed this! However, it moved a little too fast and provided way too much information in the 88 minutes provided. My brain couldn't keep up with the wealth of information that flew by! It was like the presntation was stuck in "fast forward" mode. However, it was well done and is a good "quick look" on how the Earth was made and how we got from the Big Bang to the presnt time.

A two hour history in One and half hours!
This video should be re-titled to: The History of the World in one and a half hours, because that's how much time it takes from beginning to end. It does have some interesting scenes of ancient peoples re-enacting possible scenes. And it has arrows showing how ideas spread throughout the world. At least this video has the scientific perspective of how the world developed so maybe more people can give up the religious myths about Earth creation. It doesn't have anything supernatural in it. But obviously you have to gloss over a lot of material to make a short DVD on such an enormous topic.

Short But Interesting
OK, first, it's really only 90 minutes and it was 2 hours with commercials you don't suffer here. I appreciate that. But it's also the best short summary of human history I've ever seen (and I've seen a few). I'll sure watch it many times again. I'm giving it a 4 because they don't miss anything important. I can't give it a 5 because it IS only 90 minutes and they have to gloss over a few things.

MUCH better than I expected
I saw this on the HIstory Channel, and decided to get the DVD. When it came on, it seemed like a curiosity... how can you even touch the history in two hours. They actually do a much better job than you would think...they focus on themes, and show how this event or phenomenon lead to this, led to this, led to... Well, you get the idea. This is an entertaining and interesting fast review of the history of the world...:)

Okay but not good
I bought the 3d-BluRay-Version of this 'documentary' - it was okay, but not good. How I came to this rating? First and important, it's 'only' 1 hour and 28 minutes long - it were maybe two hours on tv with comercial breaks ...The information in this documentary goes not to deep into detail (but what can one expect for the history of the world in two hours). The 3d-effect is okay (mostly with cheap 3d animations for the effect but they are not to well done, mostly eye candy). In short - Nothing spectacular, no new information, not bad but okay. You can watch it if you have no other good 3d movie to watch.

Fascinating facts and awesome special effects in 3D
I bought this DVD to really test out my 3D TV and I was not disappointed. I hadn't expected to be impressed with the content in any special way I just really wanted to see the 3D, but for 2 hours I was truly amazed about how the 'universe' is said to have all come together. Definitely makes you look at a few things differently. Well it did for me. It's definitely a DVD that the whole family will enjoy and you can also watch it in 2D. If you do have a 3D TV though this is a must for the collection. I would and have already recommended it to others. Delivery was fast.

very entertaining!
This is a movie I will defenetly see again and again. Not only is the history of the World told very well but the content is complex. I can recommend watching other movies about the universe ("Wonders of the universe") and about Earth ("How the Earth was made") to complete the picture of what is said in "History of the World in two hours".

Not quite two hours
Er, since when does 88 minutes make two hours? A great programme, mind you, but somebody got their basic arithmetic wrong. According to my mental calculation, 88 minutes is 1 hour and 28 minutes. Apart from that, it's worth seeing more than once.
