I Declare: 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life Running Press® Miniature Edition™

After reading Joel Osteen's New York Times Bestseller "I Declare-31 Promises to Speak over Your Life" I am definitely inspired and much more mindful of the words I let flow out of my mouth. The book is very uplifting and makes the point that we must all understand that what you speak is how we think and our words give life to what happens in our life; so speak positive and positive things will happen. It emphasizes that what we say matters; so as you declare these 31 promises over your life daily, your life will change for the better as long as you stay in the positive sprit of your thoughts throughout the day. As with other Joel Osteen books, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to my friends and family. "I Declare", is a concise, simple way to change our mindset and get us to change our "I AM" statements. Osteen states, "Our words have creative power. Whenever we speak something, either good or bad, we give life to what we are saying" (Osteen, 2012). Each of the 31 promises are short, practical and understandable which consist of a declaration and an illustration with scriptural/biblical support. Some of the declarations such as "EVERY SETBACK IS A SETUP FOR A COMEBACK... I WILL BECOME EVERYTHING GOD CREATED ME TO BE... I WILL NOT JUST SURVIVE, I WILL THRIVE" (Osteen, 2012) are encouraging and easily relatable even to those without a biblical background. For those who are Joel Osteen fans as I am and have read some of his other books like "Every Day a Friday: How to Be Happier 7 Days a Week" or "Become a Better You: 7 Keys to Improving Your Life Every Day", in this book " I Declare" he seems to take little snippets from his other books and puts them in his new book so there's a similar theme (Positive thinking) that you may find to be somewhat repetitive which can be a positive or negative depending on your mindset. I enjoyed the repetitiveness because I feel as though we often forget the things that are promised to us and how our words can perpetuate what happens in our future. I don't think we can hear it enough and this book allows you take five minutes out of your day to proclaim a positive outcome to the challenges that lie ahead. I believe what we say in the morning gets recycled all day so this is a great source of inspiration and good start to each day. This book is for the person who doesn't have a lot of time to devote to early morning bible study but would like to start the day with positive thoughts and biblically based affirmations. If you are looking for a daily devotional that is upbeat, inspiring and designed for someone with a busy lifestyle, then this may be what you are looking for. I enjoyed it and plan to continually refer back to it as I have with Joel's previous books. The part I enjoyed the most was the very end of the book which refers to the scripture in Mark 11:23 "Whoever will say to this mountain, be removed, and does not doubt in his heart, he will have whatever he says" (Osteen 2012), this is a source of inspiration for me. Great book, I'd read it again and recommend it to friends and family.

Amazing and LIFE CHANGING for me at a time when I needed it the most! Wasn’t doing great due to a lot of traumatic experiences in a short amount of time. I had supernatural faith to believe for things to change up until then until I let doubt take root. Once doubt is an option..life follows with exactly the things you believe won’t happen. They don’t happen. Then one day as I was organizing my bookshelf this book jumped out and I started reading and declaring again. My faith has returned and I’m encouraged again. I see the truth of who God is and how important it is to believe again. Very encouraging and uplifting for me. We were meant to believe bigger than we can imagine and the words in this book are helping to remind me of that everyday. Thank you, Lord, for this book! And thank you, Joel Osteen, for being obedient to write it!!

I am writing this review because this book means so much to me. Life changing if one really inhales all the words in the 31 declarations. A previous reviewer said they were disappointed because this book repeats things Joel has said in other books or forums. The declarations are certainly worth repeating over and over until they become part of a person deep down. I initially checked this book out at my local library and read it through in a week or so. I purchased my own copy from Amazon.com because I made the decision to memorize each of the 31 declarations. I give myself 21 days to memorize each declaration (while daily reading and thinking about the declaration of the day in the month I am living). This activity in addition to my daily routine of prayer and biblical study is so wonderful. What if everyone in the world today declared and truly believed today's declaration: Day Six (January 6, 2012) "I DECLARE a legacy of faith over my life. I declare that I will store up blessings for future generations. My life is marked by excellence and integrity. Because I'm making right choices and taking steps of faith, others will want to follow me. God's abundance is surrounding my life today. This is my declaration." I am encouraging people who work with me and my children to make these declarations a part of their daily life too. I look forward to seeing how different our lives become as a result. Will our families and communities be better off in a year from now if I and the people I know truly attempt to live out these declarations? We need to live these principles and teach them to others who are willing to listen and learn. I WILL BECOME EVERYTHING GOD CREATED ME TO BE (Day Two) AND I WILL NOT JUST SURVIVE, I WILL THRIVE (Day 25) !

I bought this God-inspired book a couple of years ago and read and studied it and applied it and re-read it and studied it over and over and incorporated it into my mental and verbal habits. On the page underlined above in photo ( of all the post it marked pages…) Joel spoke of publishing a book which I had held in my dreams and visions for 18 years….On April 21, 2023… my first romance fiction novel l, published by Trilogy Christian Publishers, appeared for sale on Amazon !!!!!! Dreams really can come true if you apply the proper principles and never give up !!! “ A Run Between The Raindrops “ A Texas Love Story All if the principles Joel speaks of are Biblical and you MUST read his book … it will change your life… and if you apply the principles… you will most likely “ achieve “ the vision or “ desire of your heart “ that you wish to manifest into your reality. God wants YOU to have “ the desires of your heart “ ( Bible) and this book will assist you in reaching them !!! Many Christians are very skeptical about believing that their words have power in them, and they are not living they full potential. I bought this book with the intention of being encouraged every day and change my negative thinking and speaking. Last year, I was in a job that I was tired of because it didn’t offer any promotion. I graduated with a bachelors and I wasn’t using my degree on that position. For 10 years, I was stuck in it and grew miserable each day. When I started reading this book and putting it into practice I didn’t see anything happening right away, but as I kept on reading it and declaring out loud each declaration, my thoughts and my speech began to change with every situation. One day, after being so frustrated with my dead-end job, I told my coworker: “This time, next year, I’m going to be at a better job with a better pay”. That was February 2017. In December of the same year, a friend spoke to me about a job opening to which I applied and went to two interviews. I didn’t get the job, but it didn’t discourage me. I knew something better was coming my way. In April of 2018 my friend told me about another position she thought I would like and told me to apply and I did. Two days later I was asked to come in for an interview and that same day in the afternoon, they offered me the job. Couple of months later, I found out that out of five candidates, I was the least experienced and the least qualified candidate. I give God all the Glory!

The 31 declarations are sort of like 31 daily devotionals, except that they are positive confessions. There's a declaration - a positive statement you make about your life - at the beginning, followed by a short passage that fleshes out the declaration or gives an example of it in someone's life. I like the fact that I can do Day 1 on the first day of the month, Day 2 on the second, etc - makes it easier to realize when I've missed a day. I also like that it isn't a years' worth of declarations - 365 of them would get repetitive and the message might get lost. This feels easier to manage, and I like that I have the option of repeating them each month, thereby reinforcing the positive messages. After 9 days of using the book, I feel more positive about good things happening to me and in my life, and I have realized that although things in my life may seem out of my control, they are never out of God's control. This is a great book for just about anyone - those who feel down in the dumps about their life circumstances, and those who are kind of coasting along but know that there's usually something around the corner that you need to be prepared for. This will help you meet those bumps in your road with grace, faith, and positive energy, and if you've been down for awhile, it will help you climb out of the sinkhole you've been in. Highly recommend.

I had never bought any book by pastor Joel. I bought this book during a specific time in my life when I did not have the time neither the energy to dig into spiritual teachings and lessons for longs periods of time. The daily promises helped me much in my devotional time. Easy to read and even if one takes only 5 minutes it assures quality time because the stories and reflections are so real and human that stick with you all day. After finishing the 31 days, one can always go back and be refreshed with the stories, but after a while one gets familiar with all the promises, so this is a short term book in my opinion.

I'm a huge person of Faith and believe in a higher power, I'm also a successful professional living in NYC. Great family, friends and lead an active lifestyle. Even with all of this, sometimes life gets really tough and decisions become excruciating and you feel almost defeated or helpless, even when you're surrounded by so much love. This is when it becomes crucial to turn to our higher power and ask for guidance and listen to our own inner voice, the positive one. Making declarations to come through tough times is the utmost test for human beings. It's so easy to give up and let the dark stuff in... this is when "I Declare" becomes your gateway back to your true higher self, your true life force. You can't have light without dark, that's just the plain truth of existence of life, it's physics. However, you have the power to make choices and in doing so, asking your higher power to guide you. This book helps tremendously and I believe was created for those of us who seek peace, joy, happiness and abundance. You are already halfway there if you're even thinking about buying this. This book is so special to me! It was given to me as a memory of my friend who passed away from Cancer. I read this book every morning - using each day's declaration as a tool to motivate and inspire me to have a fabulous day. It has definitely reminded me of the faith I have in God and how I can use my faith when dealing with daily challenges. The book brings a smile to my face and helps me acknowledge that God is really there for me! I send quotes of this book to all my friends every morning. Most of them dealing with different challenges in life, still manage to find each quote so relevant to them. They now look forward to hearing from me everyday - as they take it as a way to get on with their day on a good inspiring note. It doesn't matter what religion you are in - but if you want to validate the faith you have in God - then you should definitely read this book. It also makes an excellent gift for someone who is dealing with problems in life, having self worth/esteem issues or wanting to restore some faith in themselves/God.

Great book to read in the morning and get your day going with a gratitude mentality. I’ve given this book to my family members and they’ve all enjoyed it as well.
