A great air fryer
After much consideration and online research, we bought this Philips Air Fryer. My husband wanted a large capacity, I wanted something that would let him eat the fried foods he loves and me not suffer from grease-induced heartburn woes. This air fryer is all we could have wished for, and more. It is a bit difficult to get grease off the burner element at the top of the air fryer after a bacon-frying session, but otherwise easy to use and keep clean. My first try at using it was to make blackberry hand pies, a treat I remembered from my youth. I found a recipe online, made it up, and the results were terrific. So easy to do, the results outside-crispy, inside-moist, and absolutely delicious. We find ourselves using this air fryer several times a week, and not a single thing we've made has been less than delicious. Fried chicken came out amazing, battered halibut filets were better even than deep-fat fried, chicken-fried steaks were stupendous. And not a hint of heartburn, either! The size is workable for keeping on a counter top, we just push it against the back wall when not in use, pull it forward 5" or so when we're cooking with it. The top is flat, the black surface is easily kept clean and looks great with my other black kitchen appliances. The basket is very large, and you can get quite a bit of food in it at once. It says you can cook a 5.5 lb whole chicken in it, though we haven't tested that out yet. It has a pause feature that lets you open the unit, shake the contents around or turn pieces, then resume cooking as before without having to re-set everything. The basket assembly easily comes apart for cleaning, and it all goes in the dishwasher just fine. The fryer is amazingly quiet when running, and the controls on the front panel are easy to learn to use. My one and only complaint is that the cooking temperature is adjustable only in 25 degree increments. Most recipes call for much finer-tuning of temperature, and we've had to learn to make adjustments for that each time we work with a new recipe. Having the ability to adjust temperature from 350 to 360, for instance, would eliminate having to keep detailed notes and trial-and-error runs to get cooking times just right for greatly differing temperatures than the recipe calls for. We chose the Philips brand because all of the serious online reviews (from America's Test Kitchen, for instance) rated the Philips at the top of their lists, as reliable, durable, and easy to use. It was more pricey than other brands, true, but we figured that we would be using it for a long time to come and would be glad we paid the extra for the quality that Philips delivers. This air fryer has added a welcome and delicious new dimension to our culinary world.

Air fryers are great convenience appliances. This XXL unit is a huge beast.
I own a smaller Philips air fryer model HD9621 that unit works great. It is a few years old now, and while it mostly handles the food volume perfectly for two people, it doesn't handle the volume that you would have for four or more. To accommodate having friends and family over where the air fryer would be used, it was time to shop for a larger capacity model. While there are similar capacity models available that have a smaller price tag, I opted to remain loyal to Philips brand name. All of the Philips brand items that I have used over the years have been trouble free and are still working. There are some particular aspects of this unit that I would like to call out. 1) Temperature settings change in 25 degree steps. 300 to 325 to 350, etc. In all of the time that I used my older HD9621 model, I never found it necessary to cook at 315 degrees, for example. All cooking or reheating was at the "typical" temperature settings that these 25-degree graduations work fine for. 2) The basket for food does not "click" into the overall basket, which is not a real issue, but it did take a little adjusting to since the HD9621 does click together. 3) the overall size of the food basket doesn't "look" that much larger than the HD9621 basket, even though it is rated almost two times the capacity. Visual appearances can be deceiving. I have already found I can cook more in than I could in the smaller HD9621. 4) The XXL series has a very large footprint on your counter. If you are going to keep it out all the time, this may not be an issue. If you want to be able to store it away, it requires a good deal of space planning. Pay attention to the published dimensions, and if you have a tough time visualizing them, do yourself a favor and use a ruler or tape measure to better understand how large this appliance is. In my opinion, the cooking surface area has a better coating than Philips was using originally in their air fryers, and it cleans up easily enough. In the end, yes, I would purchase this again. I would recommend it to friends and family.

Freaking Happy I Got it
Freaking happy I bought it It's been very worthwhile. As I learned the things that I could actually do with a good quality air fryer It's been a big part of my life especially since I work out a lot and work full time It allows for me to quickly make meals while cooking things like meats and other things in the air fryer while I'm cooking vegetables on the stove. I typically don't cook stuff directly on the grill I used to take a little bit of foil curled up a little on the edges and put food on top of that so that there's greases and stuff that come from the food like juice from sausages or something like that that I don't care to have to clean up so I put it in the foil open. Still allowing for the air flow around. Helpful cleaning tip Just remember every once in a while take a sponge and wipe the inside top of the air fryer just to remove any oils/greases. I ended up buying this one because I was watching America's test kitchen do a comparison of air fryers and this one basically won out. (Price v Functionality v Quality) I love the fact cuz I'm on the go that I can just pop some stuff in there go take a shower or something and by the time I'm finished food is cooked or warmed within about 4 to 16 minutes depending on if you have something that was frozen.

Quick, Efficient and Smokey!
Clarify: This is the first air-fryer I have bought personally, my opinions below will not fully representative of the avg. air-fryer users. Pros: + Reduce 25-50% overall cooking time: Previously I've been "grilling" chickens and pork chops with my gas oven, which requires a long heat-up time. With this air-fryer it's just cooks immediately - 2 pork chops only requires 18 mins instead of the gas oven's additional 5 mins to heat-up to 350oF/177oC. + Large capacity, small footprint (for some): While the capacity is already mentioned on the product's name. In real cooking situation, I'm usually able to fit 4 pork chops, or 4-5 chicken breasts without requiring to stack them on top of another. While that is usually great for a small family of 3's dinner (with portions mentioned above), if you are thinking of cooking for a family of 4> then you might want to grab the grill accessory Philips sells as well. + Intuitive controls, with great instruction and recipe book: Digital always offer better custom cooking capabilities than analog. The digital controls is very smooth, cooking presets are on point, and the included recipe book is very neatly designed with good looking recipes (though I have not try any of them yet, and many of the recipes are just advertisement for the accessories of this air-fryer) Cons: + Smokey, even after 3rd and 4th runs: While it will obviously smoke during the 1st (and maybe 2nd) run, during the 4th run which we were "grilling" some BBQ Sauce-marinated chicken breasts, the air-fryer was smoking a lot, not to the point of tripping the smoke alarm but enough to make us open the window to vacate the smoke. My roommate suggested other brands do not smoke like that but then if you are using the product as it is designed for (frying), it won't smoke but if you use it to grill meats, then there is a high chance of this air-fryer doing a hotboxing in your kitchen. Overall I would still recommend this product to anyone looking for a good, high quality digital air-fryer, even if this is their first air-fryer.

Philips is the way to go!
I got hooked on air frying when I bought a very expensive Power Air Fryer Oven from a TV infomercial. It only lasted 5 months, so I was screwed when it just suddenly stopped working. The company refused to do anything since it was outside it's one month warranty. I did a lot of research, and finally decided on the Philips XXL Twin Turbo Air Fryer. It is expensive, But it comes with a ONE YEAR warranty. I have made tons of stuff in it, and LOVE everything about this machine! It has a large removable screen base pot above the "star" base. You can comfortably fit a small pizza in it. It makes the best frozen products! Crispy and hot fries, chicken tenders, shrimp, etc., in 10 minutes. It will hold a 5 lb. raw chicken and cook it to the same crispy-skin, tender, juicy meat perfection you get with a rotisserie; all the fat drips below the star and is ready to be drained when you are ready. Steaks, pork chops and hamburgers are a snap and cooked to perfection according to your preference, without splattering grease all over your stove and walls. Toasted subs are great! French bread pizza is perfection. Clean up is a breeze! I take my whole pot out, with the star, and the cooking insert and removable screen. I fill the base pot with hot water and Dawn detergent, add back the star, the cooking pot and screen and let it sit while I eat. Afterwards, it's just a quick rub with a Dobie, rinse and done. It also can go in the dishwasher, which I occasionally do. Unlike my first AF, this unit does not get hot on the bottom. The air is vented at the top all around. And it is a tiny bit smaller than the oven I had. I love everything about this air fryer. You may think it is expensive, but if you, like I, buy the cheaper model, when it breaks, you will have spent at least half of what this one costs. I would suggest you forego the cheap one and go with this one. Also, this is the digital model which is more expensive than the exact same non-digital model, which has now dropped in price.

it's an upgrade from the smaller version - TILL IT WASNT, READ MY EDIT
Edit to my review today on 4/26/26 going from five stars to one... this air fryer is a chain smoker! I love everything about it like I originally reviewed till it started smoking constantly a few months later, and ironically, I treat this one so much better than the first model, I never use bbq sauce or any of the other naughty things I was doing with the first model but still this one always smokes to the point I only use it outside now, even then I have to close the kitchen window to keep the smoke from drifting back in! I have to find a new air fryer but I've read Philips was sold and just went downhill, I think that's why my first smaller version of this one was so much stronger, never smoked...gonna perhaps go for the wonder over pro, still now sure yet but moving this heavy monster in & outside when needed is a huge hassle obviously, have to make a change before winter rains come again.. I love it, been using it a few weeks now, I LOVED my smaller version of this one they stopped making it, and some reviews made me think this one isn't made as well, but I don't agree, the little one lasted me 4 years but I abused the heck out of it, slopping BBQ sauce on chicken etc, it got so loud from muck stuck to the fan, however I gave it to a friend who can clean anything, he took a thin utensil wrapped some paper on it and managed to slip it between the burners coils and get a lot of muck off, he says it works great now, no noise, but I love this one more so everyone wins, I LOVE the pause feature I need to pause a lot and check the food, this one is easier to clean and I have no idea why but it is, it's not as big as the measuements on this site, I those might be the box measurements cause it does fit under the upper cabinets, I love the track it slides out on, makes it easier to use, and of course it makes excellent fried/BBQ chicken, I love a rare filet so I mix saucy balsamic with salt free spike to make a paste that turns to semi-crust when the meat is still really rare, it's so good, and salmon I make a lot, coated with chipotle mayo, sooo delish, I cook everything at 400 and after air frying for so long I forgot I'm not really a good cook but I am with the air fryer not sure why but others agree, oh yea like asparagus, I can char it but it's still really moist, air fryers, at least the Philips ones, seem to lock in the flavors as it cooks, people I know who complain about air fryers just got the wrong brand, I'm convinced of that.

Pleasantly Surprised!
I used this Air Fryer for the first time to fry breaded Cod fillets. Here's how I did it and what I will do differently next time. I cut three (3) very large Cod fillets into 12 pieces and fried in batches of four (4). I breaded them in Louisiana Cajun Fish Fry. Point to note - I use this same breading in my deep fryer and noticed that when fried in this Air Fryer the coating retained ALL of its zing - VERY spicy - I guess because it wasn't being doused in the fryer oil. Next time I will use 50% Cajun and 50% regular breading to cut the zing! I placed the pieces (4 at a time) in the Air Fryer and sprayed with olive oil to coat them. I used the "fish" preset and set the timer to 12 mins for the thicker pieces and 10 mins for the rest. I paused the cooking halfway through, turned the fish with a spatula and then sprayed again with the olive oil to coat. I pushed the control button to resume and finish the cooking cycle. The fish came out very well with a nice crisp to them. Next time to help retain that crispiness I will cool them on a cooling rack versus putting them on a plate with paper towel (forgot I had so much less oil to worry about it - the paper towel was not necessary!) The fish was moist and delicious. My family and I were VERY impressed. Clean up was a breeze. I waited for the Air Fryer to cool, wiped the bottom plate to remove the crumbs and then placed all basket components in the dishwasher. EASY! It was wonderful not to have to drain fryer oil and dispose of it! I can't wait to try chicken!

Philips premium XXL airfryer is excellent, well designed and well made.
This Phillips Premium Airfryer XXL is great. I have used it most days since purchase, about 3 months. Easy to use, well designed and well made. Easy to separate the fryer basket to clean and it fits back together with no effort. The non-stick coating is perfect. This airfyer needs no preheating and it recalculates preset cooking times to account for reheating after the basket is opened and closed when you add or turn food. No preheating is a huge advantage! This airfryer provides good control over cooking and has good presets. The big basket will fit a very small chicken or lots of pieces and the accessory to double the cooking layers works well for larger families. Food tastes better and there is no oil cooking smell in the house. I just smell the cooking food, delicious. It takes some learning and weighing of ingredients at first like any new cooker or microwave. Turning or tossing the food half way through the time is important. Being able to walk away while it fries is great. I don't have to watch it constantly as I do when frying in oil. Having heat safe handles and a cooler outer layer is good. Be sure not to fill the basket above it's top. This will prevent food touching the element above. Crumbed food, crispy poultry, sizzling meats, fresh veges and home made french fries are amazing in this! Fresh wet battered foods are more of a challenge in all airfryers as the batter drips before the heat can seal it. Fish and chips are easier if the fish is crumbed or purchased prebattered for cooking. All the recipes I find are for crumbed foods, not battered. Maybe cooking wet battered food on a paper liner for the first half of the time will work. I am yet to try this. I have not tried baking in it yet either. This will feed 4 people 1 part of a meal easily. Layering the veges on a rack over the sizzling meat works well for 4 people. Keeping the cooked food warm in an oven will let you cook more batches and feed many more people or have courses served together.
