Good story telling, but a bit repetative.
Individually, each book each individual book is a thrilling engaging well told story, but as a series each book seems a bit a little like a repetitive variation of the same theme and formula. Evil clerics and wizards try to kill or capture our hero, but he manages to survive by the skin of his teeth.

I feel blessed by Deneir
I became a late fan of Salvatore writing and since then I have been trying to catch with all his novels of the Realms. The Cleric Quintet brings a not so known group and delivers a great story. Each tome of the Cadderly's adventure has its big boss, character's struggles and evolutions in such way that I really feel like reading a great D&D campaign. The way that he describes cleric magic have openned my mind, and his action scenes are very graphic and clear to imagine.Best thing: Ivan and Pikel Bouldershoulder, everytime they appear, I have to cover my mouth so may laugh did'nt bother people arround me (and I jumped of happiness when it was Ivan's idea that provided the victory against the big bad). I'm glad that these two continues in the realms besides Bruenor and the rest of the Companions of the Hall.

A wonderful story I was sad to see end
I met Drizzt by chance when I was shopping for a new fantasy read at a bookstore. The clerk recommended it.I read all of those and fell in love with all of the characters.Drizzt does cross paths with Cadderly and that is how we met.I was finishing up the drizzt novels until the Transitions came out and came across this one. I had to read it because I loved all the other characters the writer had created.I really had a hard time with the first one,Canticle.I like to be out and traveling in my stories but it sets the base for the main character Cadderly. After that it really takes off and I found myself really enjoying it.I can not count the times I have done full belly laughs at some of the antics in these stories.Just the authors description of facial expressions or reactions had me roaring with laughter. Not to mention the Boulder Shoulders crazy fun. Who could not fall in love with the surly Ivan or the sweet Pikel?I am so glad he does become a doo-dad(druid).It made more sense of the Drizzt novels after. It was a wonderful read and you will not be disappointed.Gosh just get it! I am scared to read the Transition novel next.Pikel looses his arm and the world seems to be collapsing.Orc kingdoms?very scary.I guess I will find out more because I start The orc king tomorrow.

Easy read, great starter for Salvatore's works!
This is the first fantasy genre book I read, more than a decade ago. I have since read it three times over. If you are looking to get into the fantasy genre, this is an excellent place to start! The words flow together so well that the images will come to you immediately. The characters are loveable and the villains brilliant. The fight scenes make you feel as if you are making the moves yourself, which is one of Salvatore's strenghts. It's an easy read, masterfully put together, and for a Forgotten Realms book the names and places are fairly pronounceable as opposed to starting with Homeland, which is full of drow language (Menzoberranzan, Guenhwyvar, etc.). This book will get you accustomed to the races and also the myriad of dialects in Salvatore's works. If the aftermath of this book piques your curiosity, the future of Cadderly and company can be found in the Transitions trilogy by R.A. Salvatore, serving as key players in the Drizzt novels.I would recommend anyone to buy this book. Enjoy!

A very interesting journey
Reading the legend of drizzt books I came across a very interesting character named Cadderly. And after a quick search I found the cleric quintet. I must admit at first I was hesitant about following the journey of a cleric. But being a fan of the author I gave it a try, and glad I did. The characters in this book are just a rich and unique as those in the drizzt series. So many twist and turns help make this a great set of adventures in the forgotten realms. You not only get attached to the main characters but you also fall in love with the many secondary characters. The bad guys in this set are ones you can love to hate, which is sometimes hard to do. This set gives you a deep insite into several characters that will stand beside Drizzt in some of his hardest times. A great read for those who love a great fantasy story.

Quality and Fun
I really loved this set of books, they move at a pace designed considering all of them as a set and not just one story at a time. There is a different crisis in each book sure but they are all linked together coming together for one final conclusion. I love this set book in one also, nice to be able to just keep reading when you are really into the story or just into being curled up with a book. I do minus one star because well his writing can get a bit predictable if you have read many of his books, I just kind of like predictable sometimes when I want an easy read that draws me in.

Great fun
A great story in the world of Forgotten Realms. Connected to the Drizzt story arc, this is a stand alone tale of Cadderly. If you enjoy the Drizzt story line, this collection will bring you back into familiar terrain with new adventures.

Not as good as the rest
Having read and enjoyed most of Salvatore's Forgotten Realms books involving Drizzt, I thought I should also give the Cleric Quintet a go.I like the characters of Cadderly, Danica and the two mad dwarves Ivan and Pikel but was not impressed with the writing. The books seemed very repetitive and a lot of the plots became predictable after a while. Book after book of the quintet seemed to follow the same template. Either I didn't notice, or the Drizzt books don't suffer from this to the same degree. There is a short foreword in which the author gives an insight into how this work came into being and it may be the explanation why it isn't as good as the Drizzt books. Apparently his original concept of a book with a monk character as the hero, a monastery setting and open handed fighting got vetoed by the publisher and turned into a cleric figure with appropriate trimmings instead. In my opinion this has resulted in giving the book a flavour of having been born out of duty rather than passion in parts. The author is still desperately trying to get his 'monk hero' into the story in the shape of Danica, whilst at the same time having to build up Cadderly in cold blood, so to speak. For the price, you get a decent amount of reading material and if you are a hard core Forgotten Realms fan, then it's probably a must read, but there are a lot of books out there that are better written.
