Extremely good, Lutheran summary of christian doctrine
This is very well written and aimed at a Christian that wants to begin to dig deeper into what the Lutheran church (or Christians, in general) believe. Not that it cannot be used by theologians (e.g., pastors) but it is just not deep enough - that is not the audience it aims for. This is excellent for a student in the early years of theology (e.g., pre-seminary)

A Summary of Christian Doctrine: A Popular Presentation of the Teachings of the Bible; New King James Edition
This book provides an excellent and solid understanding of the Christian faith and the author gives ample proof from the Holy Scriptures of his points. The book is broken out easily enough to make each section a family devotion if desired. The author stresses the core at the foundation of Lutheran theology. That core is Christ (the Triune God) who is the Word made flesh- given for the life of the world. The section of faith and justification by faith is comforting.Koehler stresses that it is the Triune God who gives the gift of saving faith in grace. Although many reject the truth, justification is from God and He declared the whole world to be justified in His sight. He alone is responsible for the conversion act. Justification in the believer is complete and perfect. Those who believe by the power of the Holy Spirit personally receive the complete forgiveness of sins.Koehler is clear in noting the biblical text that if one desires faith, let him read the Holy Scripture and listen to the preaching of the true Word of God. God will work his salvific gift according to His will. It is God who works the divine gift of saving faith; not man. He also mentions that Christ is active in the life of the believer as He continually gives Himself in Word and Sacrament. In the Sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist, believers are joined with Christ in his life, death, and resurrection and are also joined with saints of all time. By His strength, by His Word, and precious gifts- the believer will endure, remain faithful and penitent.Christ preserves and sustains the believer in His divine gift of faith until the end; where the believer will join with the Triune God once and for all eternity. This is the book to own if you want a readable version of solid apostolic Christian doctrine. This book is suitable for every person who desires to learn the basics of accurate Christian doctrine. If you're not Lutheran, buy this book. For anyone else, BUY this book! Thank you sellers for making this book available on Amazon.

This teaches all the basics of Christianity. It is ...
This teaches all the basics of Christianity. It is Biblically factual with concise explanations for clear understanding. One must understand God's Mercy, righteousness, faith, grace, justification, salvation and sanctification. I had intellectual knowledge by studying the Bible for 25 years. However, I don't think that I had Spiritual Knowledge until I fully understood Jesus Christ and what He gave to us by His crucifixion on the cross. I am now assured of my ever-growing faith and hope in eternity with God in Heaven.I have put my heart and soul in this book and took careful notes. I will probably refer to this book many times in the future,

ONCE I STARTED READING THIS BOOK EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS
I bought 16 used copies (revision II and III) of this book for the purpose of starting a small group study at my church. The author is very clear in his explanations of very specific theological topics. While being a text book it is definitely not a "dry read" in my opinion. The book is divided into 11 larger areas of exploration and then subdivided from there into maybe 2 to 7 sub groups as necessary while using about 10 pages total to complete a study. The author covers each topic with enough depth to improve the understanding of most lay people which can then lead them to deeper study by other sources if desired. The author explains his topics from throughout all of scripture and these sources are cited for you to see for yourself.

best defense of Lutheran theology in print
Mr Koehler does a great job of presenting Lutheran beliefs on all doctrines. The only issues I would have with him is on infants receiving saving faith in the act of water baptism. Infants cannot possibly understand the gospel message at that time in there life. So faith for an infant according to Koehler becomes a passive act, rather than a believing act. Also Lutheran do not believe in a future millennium in the future, but according to Lutheran belief we are in the millenium now. These would be the only serious errors I would say Koehler errs in

Go for it
This the most awesome book to read to understand and comprehend Christian doctrine. The same book in white cover was read by me 35 years ago in Pakistan. Excellent material for a long term Bible Study, especially when todays generation are becoming so naïve about their faith.
