Works great, especially if you bother with those pesky instructions
I bought two of these units recently - one for a standard electric baseboard and one for a forced air electric wall heater (Cadet style). I have been very satisfied with their performance so far.Installation was very quick - after reading the instructions it took about 15 minutes between flipping the breaker off to flipping it back on. I think the hardest part was fitting the wires back into the electrical box (the existing wires were very stiff).Programming was intuitive, but I'm happy for the instructions on the inside of the door. I'll probably need the reminder if I need to reprogram and I appreciate not having to dig out the little instruction booklet. So far it's been set it and forget it with these thermostats. I did tweak the programming a couple days after installation, but since then I haven't touched them unless I'm especially cold.Mostly I'm happy that I no longer have to worry about forgetting to turn the heat down - especially at night. I'm also happy to have a warm room when I wake up, and a warm kitchen when I go out to make my morning coffee. In the past I would wake up early just to turn on the heat in preparation for my actual wake up.For the wall radiator - I like the throttling feature. On especially cold days and nights it keeps the radiator on at a low level, which alleviates the temperature peaks and valleys (and the one hour warm up time) I used to experience. For the forced air fan - My old thermostat's thermometer was off. It was reading 10 degrees colder than reality, so I could never really tell if the room was cold or if I was just being a baby. The new thermostat's thermometer is accurate (turns out I was just being a baby before). The fan function on the thermostat allows some leeway +/- your desired temperature so the fan doesn't cycle. No throttling on the fan function for obvious reasons :)The one negative, and you may have seen it mentioned before, is the lack of a backlight. It's not the missing backlight itself that's the issue (for me), it's that Honeywell advertised this unit as having one, when in fact it doesn't. I was aware of that when I bought the unit, but Honeywell hasn't updated their literature to reflect this. Meh.After reading some of the negative reviews, I was hesitant to purchase these units. I don't want to discount anyone else's experience, but I would like to address some of the complaints that have resulted in negative reviews because I think they are unfair and don't represent the quality of the product.I read all the reviews on Amazon for this thermostat. I also looked up a few more online before deciding to purchase. After reading the reviews and the COMPLETE instruction booklet, this was my experience:* No sparks* No explosions* My forced air fan does not cycle on and off every 5 seconds* I understood BEFORE I purchased that there would be no backlight.* I have never once needed a magnifying glass, flash light or pencil tip to make adjustments (as long as the room is lit, I can see the screen fine and the buttons are plenty big for regular finger tip pushing).I understand these units are a few years old and some of these resources/installation tips may not have been available before. I also understand that there are some lemons that make it out to market. I just don't like seeing a good product dumped on because uninformed buyers or buyers that never bother to read the manual. Give yourself a 1 star review, not the product.Overall I'm happy with my purchase - I saved $8 per unit by ordering from Amazon instead of my local big box, they were very easy to install (by me, someone with very little electrical installation experience), they are one of the few programmable thermostats designed to be installed by DIYers, and I've already felt "comfort" benefits from having programmable thermostats.I would recommend them to a friend and I'll also be buying more for my house as my budget permits.

Defective display
The item arrived with a defective display(defective pixels and no backlight). It still functions well as a thermostat and easy to install.

Great product
This is a great product and installation was a breeze (considering I am a layman when it comes to electrical installations; a good example of my limited electrical knowledge is I bought the Honeywell RTH7600D initially without understanding the wiring of my home). I called the customer service which was prompt and recommended the YRLV430A.Installation was a breeze. I initially struggled for a bit since there were 4 wires coming from the wall and the thermostat had only 2 wires. A quick internet search did not yield much but the process triggered the light bulb in my head that I have 2 baseboard heaters connected to the same thermostat since they are in 2 different walls of a big room. From then on it was elementary and it took all of 15 minutes to set up the whole system (excluding my internet search time). The product after installation is easy to program - very intutive, works as expected and hopefully will save me money on my energy bills.Buy without hesitation!EDIT: After 18 months, all my units (5) have generated a scorch mark on the wall - top middle of the installation. Manufacturer says it is "Thermophoresis" (http://www.saferproducts.gov/ViewIncident/1263371) but I doubt it. Definitely a concern. Buy with caution. (Dropping 2 stars because of this).

Honeywell YRLV430A1005/U
This Product Was Adv. As Use With a Base Board Heat Electric or Electric Fan Force Heating. However, the advertisement DID NOT say that it could NOT be used with a fan controlled with a Relay and this fact would not be known by the buyer unless he opened the package and read the manual or it just quit working as happened in my situation. According to Amazon, I can only return the item in the original Package UNOPENED. Since I was not aware that the Thermostat was not suitable for my needs before the package was opened, I cannot return it. The Thermostat was not directly operating the fan, only operating the 120 volt magnetic switch. The information regarding the fact that the thermostat should not used with a fan controlled RELAY should be in the advertisement and on the package, not just in the manual. Louis West
