AKASO V50 Elite 4K60fps Touch Screen WiFi Action Camera Voice Control EIS

This is a six-month review for the AKASO V50 Elite 4K60fps Touch Screen WiFi Action Camera. First I must confess that I am not an X-Games pro skater nor do I compete in the Red Bull Rampage. However, I do live a very active lifestyle, including but not limited to enduro mountain biking, trail jogging, walking our dog multiple times per day, road trips, sporting events, and family gatherings. So I was looking for an action camera that would provide a well rounded, all inclusive, user experience. The first thing that catches my eye is the overall appearance of the camera. It certainly presents like a camera 4-5X’s it’s price. The camera body is rubberized with an anti-slip pattern stamped into it. The rear viewing screen is large(for the size of the camera) and the images are full, crisp, and bright. No color bleeding or flickering. The buttons all have a little snap to them so that you know when you have depressed the button. The buttons are both ergonomic and intuitive. It only took a few minutes to get my bearings with the setting up and functionality of my action camera. This camera came with tons of accessories. There are many different ways to mount this AKASO camera to the included attachments. It’s got straps for you to mount the camera on your chest, wrist, helmet, handlebars, and dashboard of any vehicle. It also has a mini tripod and selfie stick. Also, it comes with a completely waterproof, clear plastic shell that will allow this little monster of a camera be a snorkler or scuba divers beat friend. The AKASO camera has many adjustments that can be made in the Settings. From frame rate and resolution to slow motion and panoramic functions this camera has and does it all. WiFi makes remote viewing of real time footage a breeze. Transfers from the camera to say........an iPhone can be done through WiFi by simply logging both devices into the same network. Literally I have used this camera as a security cam, a pet nanny, insurance documentation, cycling events, and everything in between because let’s be honest, action cams are the new home video camera. No one wants to look like a National Geographic photographer anymore. And having the option to have a camera that fits in your pocket compared to one that needs to be totes around in a briefcase sized plastic hard case. What’s there to even think about. BUY THIS CAMERA. You can spend $400-$500 on a GoPro if you want to. But in my opinion, for a third of the price you can get an equally wonderful camera that nearly duplicates all the functionality of a GoPro. Five stars ⭐️. I will do a year review in six months.

SHORT REVIEW: I really love this little camera! I used it for 3 weeks in numerous locations throughout the Carribean. The pictures this camera takes are excellent! The videos are great too! You won't be disappointed. (Just remember it is a $140 compact camera. It's not a $1000 professional camera with a $3000 lens nor will it make you a sandwich.) Buy one and then get an accessories pack for like $20 off of Amazon and you will be set for any kind of filming you can think of. LONG REVIEW: I love this ELITE. My last camera was an Akaso 4K Ultra HD which I misplaced so I ordered this one for my upcoming vacation, for snorkeling and scuba diving video and photos. I then found my old 4K Ultra HD camera. So I did side by side comparison tests. After comparing the two cameras, I was very happy that I purchased the ELITE! Side by side comparisons the ELITE blows the 4k Ultra away for many reasons, but a few are far better resolution, touchscreen, quality of materials, additional features on the ELITE. Lets look at a few aspects of this mini camera. VIDEO QUALITY: - (OUTSIDE OF WATER USE and not in an external hard card) - was excellent! I have some amazing video of Pearl Island and Puerto Rico that turned out beautifully. The video quality went above and beyond my expectations. - (BELOW WATER & in a waterproof hard case) - was excellent as well. The video came out beautifully, where there was ample sunlight and minimal sediment stirred up in the ocean. I got some brilliant video of gorgeous marine life swimming all around. I am SO GLAD that I purchased this camera and had it with me. I have video that I will look at again and again. PHOTO QUALITY - excellent! I took some amazing photos on beaches in St Kitts and on Half Moon key that are just spectacular! Like I was blown away with the beautiful pictures. It really beat my initially low expectations. (Reminder the photos are not 16:9 they are rounded.) SOUND QUALITY: - (outside of water use and not in an external hard card) - was surprising great. Who would have quessed that such tiny microphones could pick up such excellent quality sound. I was shocked!! Now, this is not an audiophile's level of expectation, it is just some dude marveling at how good the camera's microphones worked, keeping a realistic expectation in mind. - (below water & in a waterproof hard case) - was such a pleasant surprise! Even in the waterproof hard case the microphones still picks up sound. You can hear the noise of the waves. I could hear music when coming in close contact with it or people, etc. I was amazed that even in the hard case this camera could still record sound as well as it did. TOUCHSCREEN: I love the touchscreen. It saves so much time making one able to do quick adjustments without having to just use the up and down arrow on the side of the camera. You can do quick editing, change the video or photo quality, even do special effects adjustments so fast...and then be right back to videoing. AKASO APP for phone/tablet/pc: The Akaso App for my phone/tablet worked great! I love that I could edit and record using my phone or tablet's screen which is so much easier to see and do editing on considerably larger screens. It also allowed me to show others my photos and videos on a much larger screen. I could even download the photos and videos right on to my phone or tablet for back-up / redundancy purposes. Awesome!! CASING: I like how the ELITE has a rubberized texture to the case which provided a slip-free surface. These cameras are small and I have big hands. I was able to hold this camera and it wasn't slippery to hold unlike the 4K ULTRA with its hard plastic shell. There are many more features that I have not described and as I use this more will share my findings as I am able. Enjoy this camera and make many wonderful and lasting memories with it. God bless!

This is a review for the new AKASO V50 Elite 2018 model. For those looking for a good action camera you can hardly go wrong with this as it has most of the functions you need and want in a budget friendly camera. Let me be clear, GoPro makes a fantastic camera. Compared to the V50 Elite I think the GoPro 6/7 has better video and better audio and it’s waterproof without any external cases. With that being said, is the video and audio from the GoPro three times better than V50 elite? If you can live with a camera that needs an external case to be waterproof and has very good but not mind blowing video quality, then this is probably the camera for you. So for this review, I will not compare it to the GoPro Black 7, because that camera is in a different market for different buyers. Instead I will compare it to the 2017 V50 Pro. Maybe if I were a pro athlete needing the absolute best video and video quality for social media, then I would spend the $400 or so for a GoPro 7 but for a fraction of the price you can get away with the slightly lower quality video and audio and not notice. Set the camera to 4K and 60 fps and you will get very good video quality with smooth recording and playback. Image stabilization was a feature introduced in last year’s V50 Pro 2017 model (which I also own) and it makes a return in this year’s model with good results. It helps stop some of the jittery video if you make a lot of tiny fast or twitchy movements during recording. However the feature is no match for a good gimbal, but pair it with one and you will have super smooth video. For testing, I recorded the same objects/subjects using the 2018 V50 Elite mounted side by side with my 2017 V50 Pro. Both used the same memory cards with the factory camera case, and both set to their max 4k video settings. Camera setup is easy but unfortunately It doesn’t use a touch screen and you have to use the buttons to change settings. It comes with pretty much the same remote as last year, and you get a charger and two batteries that are interchangeable with last year’s. It also comes with an impressive amount of mounting clips and parts to help you mount the camera. The 2018 Elite was set to its max 4k 60 FPS and the 2017 V50 Pro was set to its max 4k 30 FPS setting. They were mounted to the same block when recording so that I could accurately compare video and I couldn’t say that camera angles or different video could cloud my judgement. I watched all videos on the same 4k TV. What I saw was that the video quality of the 2018 Elite is slightly better than that of the 2017 Pro. It is smoother than the Pro, and the colors were much more vibrant and popped on my screen more so than the 2017 Pro. However there were some videos that didn’t seem that different and I was hard pressed to tell a majorly discernible difference between the two. To me, the biggest difference between the two cameras is the color reproduction. Like I mentioned earlier, the colors are simply better on the 2018 Elite, and even watching the same video recording from two different cameras, I could tell which camera shot which footage by the difference in colors. They just seem to be more vibrant. I would never have noticed the difference if I didn’t see the footage from the 2018 Elite. So bottom line, the video recording is better with the 4k and 60 FPS Elite V50, the colors are better. If you have the choice between the Elite and last year’s Pro, its an easy decision. I liked the 2017 Pro, but the slightly better video and the better color reproduction of the 2018 Elite makes it a better choice if you need an action camera and do not yet have one. If you already own the 2017 Pro and are thinking about upgrading to the 2018 model, then I would say hold off on that. While the video and color are better, I don’t know if it’s worth the cost for a slight upgrade. I would wait until the 2019 version to see what upgrades they have in store. I was hoping for a waterproof camera like the GoPro that didn’t need the clear plastic case, but sadly the V50 still requires an external case. Also, the 2018 V50 Elite requires a memory card that can keep up with 4k video. I used a generic class 10 MicroSD card rated for 4k, but the AKASO would shut off after 5-10 seconds of recording. I thought that the camera was defective so when I contacted AKASO, they let me know that they recommended cards like the Samsung that was truly rated for 4k UHD recording. Once I replaced my generic with a genuine class 10 Samsung EVO with 90mb/s write speed the camera stopped shutting off. Unfortunately both cameras have almost completely muted audio when mounted in their cases. Underwater or shooting on dry land the cases protect the cameras from the elements but also effectively mute the mic so you can barely hear any audio of any kind. Maybe AKASO can fix the audio for 2019. In order to hear anything you need to record outside of the case. So to recap: the video and colors are better on the 2018 V50 Elite compared to the 2017 V50 Pro. Its smoother and the colors are noticeably better. Its not quite the same quality as the GoPro 7 Black, but its close. You need a MicroSD card capable of 4k UHD recording at 90mb/s or the camera will shut off. The 2017 V50 didn’t have that problem, but then again the video is slightly less impressive. When used in the waterproof case, both cameras will barely be able to pick up audio. If you can live with these small issues and you don’t already own a 2017 V50 Pro and you don’t want or need to spend $400 on an action camera then you would do yourself a favor and buy this camera. Based on value and bang for the buck its easily a 4 star item. If then can make this camera with a touch screen, and make it waterproof without a case like the GoPro then this becomes an immediate 5 star buy, especially at its price point.

I was looking for a action camera to take on a family vacation. I originally started looking at GoPro's since that's what most people know and/or would recommend. I love watching all those hardcore sports videos of people motocross racing, snowboarding through the mountains or gliding through the alps in a wingsuit... Let's face it, Redbull doesn't sponsor me for my extreme vacations. I can't justify spending that kind of money on a camera that I will use a few times a year....or better yet, let one of my kids use and drop in the ocean. Our vacation has long past and I have owned the camera for about a year. No, it wasn't dropped in the ocean but that's because I was smart enough not to hand it to a 8 year old. As others have mentioned, the picture quality may not be as good as some of the more expensive cameras but honestly, unless you record something side by side with a better camera or video production is your life, you won't notice a difference. I think the quality was perfect for what we used it for... in fact, the 4k is probably a bit overkill but does look incredible on a 4k TV. Image stabilization work as expected but be aware it doesn't work at the high 4k resolution and higher 60fps settings...again probably overkill so it wasn't a concern of mine. We did record some slow motion videos of the kids...your typically jumping in the pool and swimming videos. The kids thought it was cool...and I did, as well. The touch screen is easy to navigate and understand. It didn't take any paging through the book/manual. I did noticed some flaky response time from the screen from time to time... or just completely not responsive. It was almost like the calibration of the screen was off.. For instance, I would select an option but an option to the upper left ended up getting selected. It took a couple restarts and it was back to normal. I only noticed this when I first got the camera and haven't noticed it since. The waterproof case is exactly that....water proof. Works as expected. The button combinations take a bit of time to get use to since you won't have access to the touch screen while it's in the case. If you want to change any settings of the camera while in the case, it can take a while. Once you figured out the button combinations, it's not a bit deal. All the accessories are great. Many of which I haven't even used yet but are nice to have when needed. You won't have to buy anything extra. The extra battery was also welcomed. I thought I was going to have battery life problems being out all day but rarely needed the extra battery. Granted, I wasn't recording constantly and would turn it on only when needed. I have already recommended this camera to friends and coworkers and would definitely get another one, if I lost this one. Overall I have been very happy with the quality and value....and it's even cheaper now then when I bought it.

Good overall video and photos but also has some limitations. Being incredible value for the money, I would give this camera a 5 star rating. Check my sample photos (before and after color correction) to give you a fair idea on what to expect. Amazon will lower the quality down. Before purchasing this camera, I had compared all the different action cameras in market, saw tons of Youtube videos and finally landed on Akaso camera and I am so glad I chose them! Let’s waste no time and let’s get straight into the review. What I really loved about this camera Real 4K resolution at 30FPS (Not sure if I am going to utilize the 60 FPS for regular video work ) Ability to take slow-mos at 1080p Voice commands Image stabilization in 4K 30FPS video mode (A LIFE SAVER) Good color and you can control exposure and ISO settings in video and photos respectively Easy to use Remote control WIFI connectivity to connect your phone. You can directly transfer photos and videos and upload them instantly] Super wide angle lens and adjustable angles Wind noise reduction is also a good feature Lots of accessories Warranty and good customer support (I can say this because they shipped me a charger last time in just couple of days after I sent them an email. That for me was really impressive. Just over $100 with a coupon. Go pros are way out of my budget. LIMITATIONS: Remote control is not waterproof. So underwater, you have to kind of use the camera to alter settings. Not quite the same quality as GoPro Little grainy photos. Not quite clear as my iPhone 8 plus No lens protector or casing (be careful to store your waterproof case in a sock) Doesn’t have external mic input (I guess very few brands offer that) Poor quality in dark (I guess that’s true for all the competitive brands) If you buy this camera, these are some useful tips for you : • Lower down the exposure while taking videos and keep ISO at 100 while taking pictures. (If you are looking to upload it after processing) • Use a sock to protect and keep the things (dirty, I know. I am going to keep using it until I buy a proper case for camera + accessories) • There is just one button on most software that would convert your fish-eye videos and photos to a normal one. I really hate the fish eye view and have an OCD about posting anything that looks even close to fish eye. • Turn off date stamp, loop recording and sounds • If you go underwater, turn auto off to max time so it doesn’t turn blank • You could do 2.7K videos and that might take up less space but 4K videos are the best looking by quite a distance. • If your micro SD card gets full, you can delete unwanted videos from preview screen. Otherwise it would start overwriting on your previous data. If there are any hiccups or problems with this camera, I'll update my review.

We needed an action cam for my daughters softball and after a ton of research we settled on the Akaso. This camera did not disappoint! The frame is just wide enough to capture the field and we use the water proof case to keep the camera as "safe" as we possibly can from those foul balls. The octopus tripod or the Velcro strap accessories make recording hands free super easy to mount to the chain link fence. The camera is super light and small enough to fit through the fencing.

Great camera, very good value. The case arrived damaged, but Akaso support sent a replacement after I documented my order and the damaged item. Well done. Spare OEM batteries are inexpensive, so I got a few extra. I’m using a claw mount to the handlebars, about 6” double ball extension, ball to GoPro fingers, to the Akaso case. Positioned to point lens through fairing windshield. Stabilized video is great, even on my Milwaukee vibrator.

Update 7 months in: This camera has performed well in many circumstances from construction to recital recording, however I found an issue today that gives me concern. It is possible to "record" multiple videos, have the camera show that it is recording/count down, start/stop properly between videos, and yet not record a second of video. I just recorded almost an hour of 3-5 minute videos (that can't be duplicated), verified that the camera was recording and counting down the remaining time, yet the camera never saved the videos to the card and did not show any kind of error or signal that my videos were not saved (it showed everything was fine). I believe this may be due to the fact that I used a card out of an android phone and forgot to format it first, however the camera should have given me at least a warning or error instead of showing everything was fine! This has led to subtracting a star from my rating. I am very impressed with this camera, which by itself is 5 stars. I have found multiple uses for it and have been very pleased with the picture and sound quality. The amount of accessories that are provided with the camera is great, but there is no documentation on what they all are. The reason for only 4 stars is the app, which is horrible (and was immediately uninstalled from my phone). The app is not necessary due to the inclusion of a remote and alternative apps that work with the camera. The best accessory is the waterproof/protective case. My oldest wants to always help with everything (which is great), even when they get in the way and make it more difficult (which isn't so great). I started giving them the camera and letting them record the action as a way of "helping". This keeps them farther back, the protective case keeps the camera from getting damaged, it is essentially free since I can simply delete the video, and once in a while I even have gotten some great shots. Handing a camera to a child not yet in kindergarten is a great test of the protective case and image stabilization, which works very well. It also keeps them occupied while still feeling helpfull. The Android app is horrible, the Google Play rating of the app (AKASO DV) is 2.3 stars. I installed the app, it asked for permission to manage my calls and contacts, I declined because you do not need that to remote control a camera, it gave me an error message written in Chinese with two buttons (also written in Chinese) I selected the one that is typically no (I don't read Chinese), and it closed the app. I then uninstalled the app. I understand why they could want those levels of access to my phone, however I will never share videos directly from the camera, and I don't want the app to block incoming calls simply because I am controlling the camera. I am ok with granting file access (to be able to retrieve files), but there are no features that this camera could have that would make me grant contact and call access to it. Most apps can still work by simply disabling the features that require those permissions, however this one cannot. I did find that the iSmart DV app does work with this camera. It allows you to preview, record and change some settings from your phone, but has ads and requires location priviledge (probably for the ads). I rated the camera itself 5 stars, then took away two stars because of the app, then added one star back because of all the accessories they provide. Had they not included the remote and case, I would have rated this product 3 stars. If they fix the app, I will update this review to the 5 stars the camera deserves. I purchased this camera and did not recieve anything for a positive review. AKASO does have a promotion where they send some extra free accessories for leaving a review (any review), but that will never impact how I rate a product, except negatively if they try to force positive reviews this way. I applaud any company genuinely interested in improving their product through feedback (and willing to offer an incentive to provide it), but despise any company simply trying to buy a good rating.
