AMAZING
If you are new to Superdrag or just heard "Sucked Out" a few times, then i highly recommend picking this up. I dont have a favorite song here, as the whole thing is just amazing. Only thing i might recommend ( though its very hard to find ) is check out the radio version of "Do the Vampire". I actually prefer that version over the one here. It really makes me sick in some ways when i listen to this, for the simple fact it really is such an epic album that would rival anything the Beatles put out, yet its not near well known as it should be. If you forced every American citizen to sit down and just listen to this, this site would crash from all the downloads. Yes, its that good. The little sound clips here give you just a brief snapshot of what this really is. This has to be listened to from start to finish, with headphones. Its then you truly appreciate Head Trip in Every Key. In closing, i will describe it this way: Its like that trail you hike, where you know about this awesome cave. Only a few know about it, but its so great and beyond description that you wish everyone could see it.And, if you like this, you need to listen to The Lees of Memory, John and Brandon's new band. Its right on par with this. They are dropping their CD this spring or summer, and im sure everyone will be reviewing it when its available. You can buy 2 tracks online now.

The Perfect Album
I saw Superdrag for the first and only time during their spring 1998 tour for "Headtrip In Every Key". To this day it remains a defining moment in my life. I was blown away by their performance and stage presence, to say the least. I bought this record shortly after seeing that show- I HAD to. I had no choice in the matter.I'm a fan of classic rock and pop and am a sucker for a good melody and a catchy hook, but "Headtrip" is much more than that. Simply put, this album is astonishing in its production and depth. John Davis is bar-none the most talented musician out there today. His ability to craft songs and lyrics of such a high caliber is stunning, and on Superdrag's second record it shines all over! Never have the band sounded so tight and so damn good! In my opinion, the members of the band during this period were the quintessential core of what Superdrag was. There were several lineup changes following this album and the chemistry of the band was never quite the same afterwards.Easily the best of Superdrag's work (followed by "Regretfully Yours") In all honesty, this just may be my all-time favorite record. The tunes are laced with emotion and vigor of an unparalled magnitude. This is truly an underrated classic and a goldmine of a find. I felt special listening to this for the first time, like I'd discovered a beautiful secret. Final analysis: PERFECT SONGS FOR A FLAWLESS ALBUM. It just doesn't get any better than this. God bless you, John Davis.

Expanding your Ears
Without a doubt this album is in my top ten and has been since I heard it 10 years ago. It stands the test of time. Superdrag has been catagorized as power pop and I guess that's close enough. They offer a perfect blend of noise and melodic songwriting. If you've never heard them this is a great place to start. It shows Superdrag with their lushest orchestrations. But the orchestrations aren't so lush that you will want to break somebody's violin. The lyrics are top notch, heartfelt. The type you can embrace whole-heartedly, with melodies that will make it hard not to sing along with. I could name standout songs but the truth is there isn't a bad one in the bunch...I guess my three favorites are Bankrupt Vibration, I'm Expanding My Mind and She Is A Holy Grail. When the album is over you might be left scratching your head wondering why this wasn't a smash hit because this is an extremely accessible album...this is how top 40 radio should sound.

truly a head trip
this is the last and sad yet happy chapter of superdrag's short stint with the mainstream as they were about to get the boot from hollywood mogul record company, elektra records. elektra barely supported the head trip in every key tour and they were sick of it. but before they left and became a power pop rock n roll cult hit, they had one last punch at the mtv generation of the late 90s with this album that is exactly what it's title suggests. and just as the blonde woman is putting on her 60s era giant head phones, as should you.from the Expanding My Mind to The Art Of Dying, the music flows around your mind via the head phones. it starts off with a nice tune, goes through 3 more live hits that are always requested including do the vampire a joke dance that is made more for the song than the actual dance floor.starting at track 5, a new face of superdrag is drawn in the song amphetamine. the piano and lead guitarist/vocalist john davis' scratchy cigarette burned voice make the song a small epic and preface to the rest of the album. it goes through she is a holy grail and superdrag is no longer a beatles-esque mop top pop band but a mature group of men out to create their own sound and own following. in the art of dying they play with horns for one of the few times in their career and get away with it.the lyrics davis sings such as "golden streets in outer space" are a hint of true talent in his profession. his lyrics and poetry span through visions such as a bride inhaling nicotine, wishing liers go to heaven cause he's still doin 5 to 7, dancing to a symphony of my faults, taking a power pill like a fool on a hill, in an episode you casted in the part where Jesus fasted, etc.this is superdrag maturing and as they create more music they have the right to go back to their Replacements roots cause theyve already hit their peak in music maturity and exellance.

superdrague
