The School Counselor’s Study Guide for Credentialing Exams 1st Edition

I am a SC Masters student who was seeking a passing score of 156, which is the minimum for licensure in my state. Dr. Schellenberg's book is a required text for a class I am taking soon, so I ordered it at the beginning of 2022. I did so with the dual purpose of using it as a Praxis preparation tool after reading recommendations from fellow SC Masters students. I was able to read each of the chapters on SC and work through the Praxis-like scenarios Dr. Schellenberg provided. In addition, I was also able to complete the practice test in her book and then check my answers with her thorough answer key, which includes explanations of why answers were correct.Today, I took the SC Praxis exam and my unofficial results were a 180 (highest is 200)! While the ETS practice test was a helpful simulation, Dr. Schellenberg's book provided a detailed explanation and comprehensive guide to the complex expectations and issues facing current school counselors in the K-12 setting. Dr. Schellenberg gives information in an engaging and helpful way, sharing concise charts which are easily reviewable for refreshers prior to the exam. This study guide made a huge difference in helping me understand the SC career in an impactful way and also helped me to pass the test my first time. I am happy to recommend it to any and all who are taking the SC Praxis Exam.

I used this book to study for the Praxis II Professional School Counselor exam. I have been working as an agency mental health counselor since earning my Master's in community counseling over 13 years ago. As I transition into school counseling, I am required to take the Praxis II. This guide was effective in reviewing counseling theories and approaches that I had learned before, but it was especially effective at introducing and describing school counseling-specific concepts. The chapter reviews and case scenarios were very helpful in preparing for the Praxis II, as most test questions were focused on applied knowledge. There were only about 3-4 test questions out of 120 that addressed topics not covered by this study guide. This was the only study guide I used during my three weeks of intensive study, and I passed the Praxis on the first try. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone preparing for the Praxis II Professional School Counselor Exam.

I PASSED MY SCHOOL COUNSELING EXAM FOR ILLINOIS TODAY!!! I can honestly admit that I took the exam last month and failed because I focused on the wrong test material. I hate to say it but I purchased the yellow, black and white book (I won't say the name) which was a waste of money!! After reading great reviews on this empowering school counseling exam material I purchased the book, because I was Determined To Pass!! Nine days, after my book arrived, I passed my exam!! Yes, I read the entire book and study material!! This book is all you need because it places you in the seat as a knowledgeable and professional school counselor and covers what is on the test!!!

I bought this book to study for the Praxis II solely based on the reviews of other buyers. Little did I know how accurate their reviews would turn out to be! I used Dr. Schellenberg's book as my primary study guide and passed the Praxis with flying colors. Her concise and easy to read manual makes studying simple and the example questions are true to the types you find on the test. I will definitely keep this book to use when I study for my other credentialing exams, as it covers more than just the content for the Praxis, but all exams for school counselors. If you're looking for a great study guide, look no further!

This book was a tremendous asset while I studied for the PRAXIS II exam. In 2014, I found out a new requirement that I had to take the student counseling exam, only 6 weeks before the exam. While others had studied for months, pouring over every textbook from graduate school, I knew I had to whittle down my study choices to only a few texts. I choose this one, read, studied, outlined and reread every chapter. I passed the exam with flying colors. The text is easy to read, and filled with everything i needed to succeed at test time.

I bought this book for a class that I took with Dr. Schellenberg. This book prepared me for the GACE- Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators. Not only did I pass, I passed with a score of "professionalism" and a numerical score of 268 and 265 out of 300. This book is filled with extremely important information for all counselors. It is an easy, and very fun/funny read- a direct insight to the wonderful humor of Dr. Schellenberg! It has exam questions throughout the book, as well as answers at the end of every chapter, and a full-length test at the end of the book. This is the only book I studied from for a passing score on the GACE.

This is a great resource. I highly recommend the spiral-bound version as it is very easy to use. There is a wealth of information in it. It is also well written, keeping a person's attention and showing the author's personality a bit. It's more than just dull facts. There are great examples and a test to take at the end. It is easy to read.

After several months of studying for the National Certified School Counselor Exam (NCSCE), and even with a change in test format, I finally passed the test last weekend! Dr. Schellenberg's comprehensive guide provided me with practical insights and helpful tips that I incorporated into my approach toward the test. I would strongly recommend other school counselors in training to purchase this book as they prepare for the various exams within their graduate programs and their careers as respected and prepared school counselors. It's definitely worth it!
