Great product
This a great product for anyone who has chickens and is worried about vermin. We had a significant problem with rats around our coop and tried two or three feeders which claimed to be rodent proof but really didn’t work because it still allowed food to fall onto the floor when they swung on it. There’s no problem like that with this apart from a couple of messy eater chickens flicking feed around which isn’t significant. It does take a while for the chickens to work out how it works, in our case it took a good couple of weeks but they got it in the end. The good news was it almost immediately improved the rat situation. The only complaint I do have is the nuts for the mechanism work their way loose after a while, I will add an additional nut to each side and tighten them against each other which should do the trick.

Automatic chicken feeder
The assemble was straight forward,Value for money.Could do with it being more sturdy. The only problem i have with it is my chickens keep sliding of the push down step,it could do with a anti-slip step otherwise this product is good..

Not very good quality and some edges very sharp
I got this for my hens but haven’t used it yet cause it needs a lot of work doing to it before it’s usable. Some of the edges are sharp enough for me to cut my finger and I didn’t want any hens heads cut off so I’m going to sand down edges so they’re not sharp. Also the metal hinges are very flimsy, they bend easily and need reinforcing or different hinges sourced. If you’re prepared to do work to it, it’s a good design and cheap but not fit for purpose as it is.

Persevere and your chickens will learn how to use this
We got this to reduce the amount of food pellets our chickens waste by eating incredibly messily and often tipping over their little round feeders. This pedal feeder works great, they took a little while to learn, but we just went out often and opened it for them, left them to it once they'd put their feet on it and a few days later they were happily doing it for themselves. Using treats in the feeder like corn or meal worm encourages them to try it, a little scattered on top of their normal feed gives them a reason to try opening it more.Since we got it very little to no waste, and of course it keeps away those furry pests that love messy chickens. We have 1 for 3 chickens, our girls generally get on so no problem with pecking order crowding out the weakest one.

Keeps falling apart but washers (not included) have helped
Only had for a few days and the nuts on the ‘elbows’ were not found in the packaging and consequently having to tighten every couple of days which defeats the object of getting it to keep food dry.Edit. I managed to get some fixing washers that weren’t included and seems to be working ok for last 3 weeks.

Screws used cannot be tightened- buy a bag of spare nuts & bolts as it will need ongoing maintenance
This a simple potentially great design for a narrower run, over a Grandad feeder. However the fixings cannot be tightened properly. They will fall off, get eaten(really), lost in the run & you'll have to bodge the fixings with various nuts & bolts yourself on a regular basis. On that basis its poor value & a ton of hassle but the shape is great for our run so we persist. If it works for your run, save the hassle & buy a Grandad feeder despite the price!

Good idea but the made is not good enough
It’s a very good idea. And the material seems to be okay, but the only problem is the screws are lose , not fit , you have to diy and fix it. Other than that , no other problem , chickens still using it .

Keeps rats our of food but some chickens are brighter than others!
Fairly easy to assembly, however it could do with being supplied with nyloc nuts.Prop the food hopper fully open for a few days for the chickens to get the idea where the food is. The I partially propped the lid open for about 2 weeks. Some chickens got the idea within 2 days.. others just didn't get it - not the brightest of birds.. You will need to check during the day if all your flock have figured out how to open the lid and are not afraid of the opening actions before removing the items you used to partially prop the lid open.4-6 large chickens can feed at the same time.We immediately noticed a reduction of rodent traffic and a definate reduction in feed usage.
