Searching for something to hold up my cell phone in the car, I saw this on Amazon and thought, "That's too good to be true. It can't be that simple." I had just done the first leg of a super-long road trip (Texas to Canada) with a cobbled-together holder made from the cradle of a suction cup holder that didn't stick, and yarn tied to my AC vents. It was ugly, clumsy, and one of the prongs of the cradle actually blocked off the phone's power port, so that I couldn't seat it in the cradle firmly and charge it at the same time. It was another in a long string of non-successes to have my phone easily visible and accessible on road trips (especially when using GPS). I loved the idea of a magnetic holder - the simplicity, easy on-and-off, lack of obstruction of the phone's screen/ buttons/ ports, and small size that doesn't block the air vent. But I was seriously skeptical that a magnet could be strong enough to hold my phone securely without flopping all over the car, especially in the event of a big bump or sudden stop. But the thing was so cheap, I thought, 'What do I have to lose?" So I ordered one, and I've been using it for several weeks now. It's fantastic! All I can say is, where has this been for the half of my life that I've owned a cell phone? I wasn't too sure about putting a metal plate in the back of my phone... my phone has a very slim design with a tight-fitting back. But I was able to squeeze in two of the three provided metal plates under the back cover with a little effort. (You could probably make do with just one, but I figured two would provide extra security.) Once the plates were in, the phone sticks to the magnet like magic. It holds securely, while still being easy to turn upright or sideways. I can have it plugged in to charge with no problems. If I turn it upright, I even still get some of the air from the vent to which it is attached. The only less-than-perfect thing I can say about the product is that sometimes when I pull my phone off the magnet, it comes off the vent instead. I've never had it fall off when the car is in motion; it's only happened when I'm trying to remove the phone. The mount holds to the vent with four prongs arranged in a square, and after the first couple of weeks, I noticed that the gap had widened between the prongs where the vent horizontal bar went between them. I resolved this by rotating the mount 90 degrees so that the vent bar went between the prongs in the other direction, where they were still tight. Hopefully this will force the original prongs back closer together, and I can just keep rotating as needed. In any case, it's not a big deal if the mount comes off the vent when you pull the phone off - you just need to stick it back on. I really like and recommend this product. TL;DR version: Yes, the magnet really is that strong!

It may have taken the purchase of 4 different cell phone mounts, but I've finally found one that works for me. And best of all? This one is remarkably inexpensive. See, here's the problem. I have a Chevy HHR which has big, huge, super thick European style vents. I tried the spring-loaded mounts that clip onto your vent. Those weren't long enough to reach. I tried a dash mounted vent. That obscured my vision of the road and eventually just fell off. I then bought a CD-mounted vent, and that worked for about 75 days until the arms that hugged the phone completely lost its ability to grip. (Mountek Universal CD mount, by the way. Don't buy that, it's garbage.) I had just made peace with the idea that I'd never be able to have a car mount due to the weirdness of the Chevy HHR's interior. Then I saw this thing and decided to give it a shot. I cannot stop raving about this mount. I am completely in love. Not only is it easy to install, but it stays in place without any sort of issue. And as far as the magnets go...WOW. Listen, I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. As it stands, it's already a pretty big phone. Not the biggest phone on the market, granted, but it's not a small one by any stretch of the imagination. However, on top of that, I also has an Otterbox Defender phone case. It's enormous and weighty. This turns my phone into a heavy, unwieldy brick. I thought there was no way the thin little magnet would hold the phone in place with the weight of my phone. Wrong. I've driven down dirt roads, gravel drive ways, over train tracks, through unpaved roads during construction, and hit my fair share of Ohio potholes and the phone HAS NOT BUDGED. It is nothing short of amazing. I can only think of two cons for this product: Con #1: Yes, it clips onto an air vent and covers it up. Here's the thing, though. It doesn't make an air-tight seal. Air simply blows around your phone. Con #2: This one is actually somewhat problematic. So, the unit itself is capable of rotation, but with my style of air vents (which rotate clockwise and counterclockwise) this can mean having to turn the air vent itself to get the phone to be at a perfect angle. Is this a huge deal? No, but for me, it isn't a simple matter of plopping my phone onto the mount and driving off. I need to take a few seconds to adjust the positioning. But again, if you have normal people air vents and not weird Chevy HHR ones, you'll be able to simply stick your phone to it and call it a day. So, there you have it. Two cons. One is a total non-issue, really, and the other is very specific to my make and model of car. Other than that, there is no one I wouldn't recommend this item to. I'd go as far as to say that if you own a cellphone and drive a car, this should be something you have in your life. It makes driving safer, it helps keep your GPS visible, it impresses anyone who is riding in your car, and unless you're trying to hang a 1970s rotary phone from it, it's very likely going to support your device.

June 2nd, 2016 EDIT: I removed one star because I found a mount that was just a little better for my situation because it mounted to the windshield AND used magnets! I work as a courier- in Arizona; I'm in my car for 9+ hours a day in 100+ degree heat. I NEED to utilize all the air vents my car has to their fullest, so blocking off the driver's side vent (the one closest to the window where sunlight comes in and the only vent it could grab onto) had a big impact on how quickly I cooled off. For me, even if I crank up the AC high, still took a while for me to cool off. It kept my hot phone cool though and the magnets are quite strong. However, if your phone is a brick or has a huge battery like 5000mAh then there's a chance of it slipping off over a big bump and breaking your knee cap... I kid but it actually did hurt... a few times. Bumping this down to the second best phone mount I've used. My car is a 2001 Toyota Avalon if you were curious, and this product worked OK with it, but be cautious if your air vent fins look like they are about to fall off because mine did and I had to replace the whole driver's side air vent. Partly the previous owner's fault, partly this product's fault. Original review: This is by far the best mount I've used. I have had a CD phone mount which was terrible all around, and another vent mount I got from Autozone by Type-S (well-known brand). The Wiz Gear is so easy to use, just put it in a secure location on one of your vents, put which metal plate works best for your phone and you're all set! For me, I put the large rectangular plate without adhesive under my Blu Studio Energy 2's back cover, put on the case that came with the phone (regular TPU case, not thick at all), and mounted it to the far left vent in my 2000 Honda Accord. It's not a PERFECT fit because the vent is a bit small, but it's secure enough. I find the smaller circle plates are not as strong as the larger ones simply because of surface area so I only recommend using those if you have something smaller than a Xperia Z3 Compact or iPhone 6. I have two jobs and both of them are delivery and require me to use my phone. I can very easily plug in my charger if needed and grab my phone with ease when I get in and out of the car which is A LOT! This product saved me some time and frustration. No clamps, no rubber arms, no fuss, just powerful magnets. One word of advice though, the large plates can bend, nothing major, but just don't be rough with them, the actual mount itself feels sturdy. THE CAR: Black Lightning AKA Toyota Camry THE PHONE: Samsung Galaxy S3 (yeah I know its old, but i'm getting a discount from Verizon for not upgrading and I can still play Candy Crush like a champ). Pretty bulky with the case, but i likes it. Makes it feel durable. I'd take a picture, but ... phoneception? THE PHONE CASE: Some kind of two-layered thing with a little flippy thing on the back so i can stand it up at an angle. The case itself is as thick as the phone. KITCHEN TEST: I put the metal piece inside both layers of the case and it held to the magnet but it still slid a bit when i shook it , so I moved the metal piece to in between the layers of the case (these metal pieces are SUPER thin) and it held great to the magnet. And I shook it a lot. STREET TEST: **Disclaimer: Female Asian Driver.** This was the real test. There's this place in the parking lot at work where there are 3 speed bumps right in a row. Sometimes I slow down for them. Sometimes I don't. I cranked up Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" (which happens to be the same song that blew the speakers out in my last car) and hit them all in quick succession. Phone didn't budge. COOLNESS TEST: I gave my Scientologist friend a ride somewhere and she was like "How is that staying on there?" She didn't think it was Xenu or magic or anything, but she was definitely intrigued. TL;DR: Californian thinks I have cool stuff. VERDICT: This. Thing. Is. Amazing. It works and it looks cool. I can reach it easily from the drivers seat to change songs or answer the phone (not all of us have built-in Bluetooth you FatCats). The best part i think is how unencumbered it is. I don't have to adjust 14 different things to accommodate a charging cable or audio plug. I've owned a lot of car mounts in my day. I've broken a lot of car mounts in my day. I even had one of those Grip & Go (from the TV commercials). One of the mounts I had actually had a piece break off and fall down into my steering column. I'M NOT SAYING IT'S RELATED, but I had to sell that car soon afterward. I actually had about 4 other car mounts in my cart before I decided to purchase this one. #NORAGRETS

I've tried four different methods for securing my phone in my car. This is the only one that worked. I have a 45 minute commute, and I use my phone for audiobooks, hooked to the car's bluetooth. I also use my phone as my GPS. I have a TomTom, but my phone works better, so the TomTom never comes out anymore. So I really needed something to attach my phone to the car. The first method I tried was the sort that clips into your vent and grips the phone from the sides. That method didn't work. The holder itself was large and heavy, and because it caused the phone to jut out from the vent by about an inch, the vent tilted down and you couldn't see your phone. Plus, not all side-grippers work with all phones, and it's a pain to put the phone into the device. You can't do it once you start driving. The second method I tried was the grippy rubber mat you put on your dash. Supposedly nothing slides off it, so your phone can sit on it. So long as you don't put your charger cord in (inevitably tugging the phone off the dash) it works OK... until the rubber gets dusty. Then it doesn't stick as well. Getting dust off rubber is not easy, let me tell you. And any method you use compromises the mat's stickiness. The third method I tried was one of those devices that sticks into your CD player. It didn't fit into my CD player, though I tried. I even shaved the thing down to try to get it to work. No dice. Even if it had worked, I wouldn't be able to listen to CDs. Having been a teen in the 90s, I still listen to music on plastic discs. The fourth method was this magnet. It's amazing. I put the large flat no-stickum metal plate INSIDE my phone, right on top of the battery, so you can't even see it. Nothing is adhering to any part of my phone. Nothing is glued onto my car. No rubber mats. Nothing jammed in my CD player. How well does it work? You'd be suspicious that the magnet wouldn't work. It does. It holds my Galaxy S4 very well. I've tried taking some turns hard just to see, and it doesn't budge. It holds it firm, even with the charger cord plugged in, dragging it down. If you have the charger plugged in, the phone WILL gradually rotate out of landscape orientation, though, so you're stuck with portrait orientation if you're charging, unless you wrap the cable around the steering wheel or use some other sort of shenanigans. "But Jon!" (you might say) "The S4 is not as big as my phone!" Yes, true, the S4 is a little smaller than a lot of smartphones. But I had a rubber case on, making it larger. OK fine. It's still relatively small. To test it with a bigger phone, I tried it with my wife's Note 4, also with a rubber case on. Nobody would say a Note is a small phone! It stuck on just fine, and I took a turn pretty hard to test that one too. (Howard County Police, please forgive my driving. It was for science!) As for vent tiltage (see failed method 1, above), no problemo! The magnet dohickey only sticks out about a quarter inch, so the phone winds up being flush with the dash, and it doesn't tilt. It also looks good. The black is a little on the grey side, which matches the dark grey of my air vents almost perfectly (Hyundai Sonata) and the device looks attractive and subtle. I can even use the air vent (for AC, but not heat - but you should be using the floor vents for the heater in winter anyway!) because it only covers half the vent with the phone on. All in all, I was very pleasantly surprised how well this worked, especially after trying three other, crummy, methods. Get this thing. It will improve your life. Edit. Weeks later still works fine.

I bought two of these, one for each car. One of them holds a little tighter to the A/C vent because the rubber-covered "fork" is slightly tighter (see photo). Luckily, one car has vent louvers that are a little thicker than the other, so it worked out. If you have only one car and the fork does't grab the louvers tight enough, you can try squeezing the forks in a vise (I suggest using some kind of plastic or rubber vise plates to avoid damaging the rubber on the magnet forks). I did this to get the looser one to hold better and it worked a little, but it was never as good as the one that came tighter from the factory. Neither of these holds strong enough to stay attached to the vent louver when the phone is pulled off unless you slide the phone to one side or the other—pulling straight off will usually pull the WizGear with it. The magnet is actually four rare earth magnets (probably neodymium) in an array under the rubber cover (see photo). They are very strong magnets (DO NOT let your kids or animals play with these—swallowing could be deadly), but they aren't strong enough to hold an iPhone 4S in an OtterBox Defender case (the thickest case made by OtterBox) without a little slippage. In other words, a thick phone case may slide off the WizGear after driving a few miles, but it probably won't just fall to the floor of the car unless you're doing some serious off-roading. The metal plates that come with the WizGear are so thin that they fit inside any case with no outside bulging or fitment issues. Three plates are included—one round and two rectangular. The round plate and one of the rectangular plates have self-stick adhesive and can be used even without a case for your phone. With the cover removed, you can see how the item is held together. There is a metal plate under the four magnets and that plate is held to the plastic base by a single screw through the center. I believe someone else here has a problem with mounting on his car's A/C vent and he disassembled the WizGear and used the center screw to permanently attach it to his car's dash. I may do this in my Jeep as the center dash bezel comes off very easily and I could rig up a mount in a few minutes. EDIT: I stopped using this as the magnet in the holder interferes with the phone's compass. If your phone uses the GPS without relying on the compass for directions, you probably won't mind this issue, but when I'm off-road in my Jeep, I need to know which way is north without any external systems that may be compromised while in the forest.

These things are great. I purchased four of them, with three to give to my parents and my boyfriend. I was a little skeptical, but it's a great product. My previous phone mount had a bar that you slid over to fit your phone. While it worked, it was very difficult to remove, and you certainly couldn't do it with one hand. This one is incredibly convenient for that reason alone. For the people worried about the magnet affecting your screen - it doesn't. I've been using mine for a little while with no problems whatsoever. I agree with some of the other reviews that the displays on cell phones nowadays are different, so there are no worries of this damaging your phone's display. Some old model GPS displays may be affected, I'm not sure, but my cell phone has not been affected at all. These have been used with a few Samsung Galaxy models, an iPhone 7, and an HTC U11. It is worth nothing that the magnet is on the mount itself, not the plates you put between your phone and the case. With that being said, if you have a case that holds credit cards, then the cards would be damaged when placed on the magnetic mount. The magnet is strong. It held my phone for a four-hour drive with no problems sliding down or falling off the vent. I love the rubber grip that you slide onto the vent; this really makes it universal. The ones I purchased have been used in four different makes/models of cars and it's fit in the vents of every one with no issues of it coming loose. I was surprised that this came with three different metal plates to use, which was nice so you can place them on a few different items. I used the rectangle plate without the adhesive, and I just put it between the case and my phone. It doesn't slide around; it's been solid. I purchased one for me, then bought three more off my experience. If you're looking for a great car mount for your phone that's easy to use, this is definitely what you want.

This is a very useful, no-fuss item. So easy to install - I slot it into an air grill at the side of my steering wheel and there it stays. To use, tap the phone on to it and the magnet grabs it firmly. It has never fallen off or moved. To remove phone is also easy - it slides off. Having the phone in the spot I want it makes glancing at 'google maps' very easy.
