Negative reinforcement at its best ....
Nothing gentle about this bit of kit .. especially in the wrong hands. The horse submits in the Dually as it's evading the extra pressure applied by the nose rope, as opposed to working from a place of trust and harmony....the horse is rewarded by release of pressure, so its a bit of kit that works via negative reinforcement ....
