Segal SE 26010 Mortise Lock Set, Brass Right Hand, 2-1/2 In. Backset, Surface Mounted (Single Pack)

Had a customer whose front door lock broke. This replacement here looked beautiful to the customer and it felt durable. Perfect mortise fit

My older Russwin brand mortise lock had worn out (house was built in 1941) and it used a non-standard key (could not make a copy anywhere local). Locksmiths all quoted ridiculous prices to replace my existing lock (several hundred dollars). Replacing the door was even more money (several thousand dollars). I took my old one out, measured it, and was able to find its replacement for a fraction of what the local locksmiths wanted. (Thank you Amazon!) Its very sturdy and well made (its heavy --- very solid construction), has a nice finish, and was a simple drop-in replacement for my door. Please be aware that all mortise-style locks are not physically identical for thickness/offsets/etc. I had to take my old one out of the door, measure everything (lock depth/height/offsets/etc) and then find a brand and model that matched. If you don't do this, you will be unhappy when the new one does not fit... I am very happy with my purchase and recommend this brand.

There are no instructions on how to remove this lock portion. You cannot install without removing this lock from the face plate. I tried to remove it by taking some screws out, and then the entire lock mechanism exploded, little parts went everywhere, and i still cant take the lock off to even attempt an install. Ive installed many mortise locks before but never had this issue. Spent almost 100 on this and absolute waste of money. So dissapointed.

Fit directly in my old door slot and it's good for the money and easy to install, but the screw on the door knob constantly unscrews itself and has to be retightened. Also, would be nice to have a key number to have matching keys for the rear door as well, which is not provided.

I’m not sure if it’s because my door is too old, but the installation was a bit difficult, and the manual was somewhat hard to understand.

This is a great value. Other metal set costs $350+. This aligned perfectly with the existing strike plate and mortise opening. I had to make slight modifications with a wood chisel. After finally figuring out how to unscrew and remove the old set, remove the key lock from the new set, installation was a breeze! Please note that the plate is made of thin metal (likely aluminum) but all other pieces are heavy metal and very sturdy. This set is interchangeable for right-hand or left-hand door. Directions were easy to follow with diagrams and instructions in various languages.

This one had a slightly bigger mortise so had to chisel out the pocket for it to fit. And the plates were more narrow than the original on my door. All in all it looks ok, very bright, but works. Only thing was the outer knob kept unscrewing since the rod is two pieces so had to tighten the inner knob to keep that from happening. This caused the outer knob to be a little tight and doesn't always go back to rest position.

Although this product wouldn’t work for my application I was impressed by its quality.
