Diamine 80ml Fountain Pen Ink Bottle, Oxblood

I am in love with Diamine brand fountain pen inks. Their balance of reasonable price and high quality have made them a go-to for a large portion of my writing needs. The variety of colors they make is astounding, and many shades have become must-haves for my collection. I gravitate toward reds, and this one is very somber. On the nib, and on the paper while wet, this ink looks exactly like its namesake. Once dry, it has a darker, more formal look to it, imo. I think it would make a handwritten letter look very nice. On Rhodia notebook paper, and the Kokuyo Business paper I use, this ink behaves beautifully; it dries quickly, and exhibits no bleeding. As for water resistance, I can only report what I see in the pictures of others' tests, and it appears to remain faintly after a water dip test, remain somewhat intact and mostly legible after the water brush test, smear very little under gel highlighter, and smear more significantly under ink highlighter. So, it is not waterproof at all, and only slightly water resistant. To my knowledge, it is not formulated to be archival ink, like Diamine Registrar's Blue Black ink, which is a iron gall ink, and waterproof once dry. It's hard to find a shade as nice as this one in any waterproof inks; they're usually black, blue-black, grey, or brown. But it should function well for note taking, letter writing, and journaling. I use it for journaling, personally.

I've been using this ink for a few weeks now in a few different pens and have decided it's finally time to write up a review. To preface, I have inked up two Pilot Metropolitans, a Lamy 2000, and a Sheaffer Targa with this ink. What do I think about it? It's absolutely amazing and its a great value for the price. Being a student, I was hesitant to use a red ink as red is the stereotypical grading color. This led to me to reach out to the outer edges of what I considered red so that it could still be acceptable. I now have this inked full time in a Lamy 2000 and have written multiple papers and done countless assignments with not a single complaint from any of my teachers unless I'm specifically asked to only use a certain color ink and don't just because I love how this ink looks and writes so much. The ink flows well, but with that comes the slight problem that in a larger nib it might write very wet. I don't like a wet writing nib, so I just put it in a pen with a fine nib, but it's worth noting for others. On regular notebook paper there is little to no bleed through and very minor feathering given you're using a fine/extra-fine nib. I don't often use high quality paper so I can't share how it behaves on that. As for the color, 'Oxblood' describes it almost perfectly. If i were to stray from that word, I might use 'dried-blood' to describe it almost as well. It takes on the brown red look that one might expect from dried blood. Also, after its been sitting on paper for a while it almost seems to get more brown as the time passes just as one would expect from drive blood. It actually looks so much like blood that I had a teacher freak out because she thought my hand was bleeding after seeing a but of it on my palm. The great price paired with the 80mL bottle, which is larger than most bottles from other manufactures, lead to this ink being an awesome value especially since it is so high-quality and behaves so well. I always recommend this ink to anyone who's looking for a great ink at a great price and especially if their looking for an ink that is just as beautiful as it is unique.

I'll start with important points, it flows great and doesn't clog. It's not liquid either so it wont leak, it flows beautifully and smoothly. Now the color, its beautiful slightly darker red. A lot of darker red inks are close to color brown, but this one is nowhere close to brown at all, hence it's perfect. When inside the pen (my fountain pen is transparent), it looks like actual blood taken from my veins. When on paper it stays the same and always looks like fresh blood (not dry blood, don't worry haha) The size of this thing is huge. I got through many many pages on one simple refill and I got so much more left, will likely last me 2 to 3 years. It's great value. It's worth it. If you want to avoid nasty red ink teachers use to mark papers and avoid darker red ink that appears to be brownish, then this one is perfect, genuine fresh blood red. Diamine Oxblood is not only a very formal color, but simultaneously warm and. It carries a sacramental quality — a reminder that, as calligraphers, penmen, and lovers of writing, our time on this earth is limited. Naturally, that is part of its appeal: A fountain pen ink that calls us to recall our mortality. On a more pragmatic note, it is a balanced ink—both wet and dry. It writes with an elegant smoothness, unlike a Pelikan 4001, yet it dries remarkably fast. You won’t find yourself waiting long for it to settle. The color itself is exquisite. This is my first time using Diamine ink — I’ve previously written with Pelikan, Iroshizuku, and Higgins Eternal—but I have fallen in love with this particular shade of red. I don’t celebrate Halloween, but if I did, this would be my ink for all of October. It’s a peaceful, Eucharistic red: Not loud, not dull, with just a hint of brown that gives it a rustic, almost timeless character—like a rustic old barn truck. Please refer to my photo and video for a truer sense of its tone and flow. For reference, the pen used in the video is a Pilot Custom 743 with a gold FA nib, while in the Spencerian demonstration, I’m using an oblique holder fitted with a Brause 361 nib. I highly recommend this ink. If you’re uncertain, start with the 30ml bottle — though I reconcile be back for the 80ml. I certainly will. Even on ordinary paper, Diamine Oxblood reveals a valuable beauty. It’s dark but light, smells like ink, dries quickly, and certainly stands out. There is nothing more a penman could ask for.

Excellent quality ink with rich color and great performance. I recently purchased this bottle of ink and have been very impressed. The quality is outstanding; smooth, consistent, and clearly well-formulated. The color is excellent, with impressive depth and vibrancy that really stands out on the page. It performs beautifully whether I’m writing or drawing: good flow, solid saturation, and reliable results without any issues. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quality ink that delivers on color, depth, and everyday performance.

update: a new bottle was sent out, and shipping issues aside, this ink writes beautifully. It dries very quickly and is very bold and smooth to write with. Tried it in a Kakuno and a twsbi diamond. The second bottle did not have the issue the first one did. the lid closes tightly and secure. No leaks from the new bottle. When opened the box and reached in i noticed red all over my hands and knew it was bad news. The ink leaked thru the original box and into the delivery box. After taking it to the sink and cleaning it off and re tightening the top of the ink, it still seems to want to leak when shaken. (i usually shake my ink before i fill). Seemed to have pooled into the one corner of the box and ended up losing 1/4th of the bottle of ink. other then that debacle the ink writes nicely. the bottles lid is not secure at all. I for sure got a defective lid to this, i put a white paper towel over it and tightened it down and shook it and ink still comes out. Will be returning. After talking to customer support they said they would send another one out for me. I've used this ink in the past and its one of the best reds i've ever used. Shame that this time the lid was broken on it.

Another win for DIAMINE! Beautiful rich red color that pops on my ivory 28# cotton stationary. I love experimenting with different colors especially the reds and burgundy's. I need to find a sampler set. Maybe DIAMINE will reach out to me to sample and review their inks....LOL.... Wishful thinking!!! I'll purchase more once I drain this 80ml bottle.

Diamine Ancient Copper zeigt auf dem Papier einen wunderbaren dunkelroten Farbton mit sehr schönem Farbverlauf (das nennt sich auch "Shadowing"), wenn hochwertiges Papier genutzt wird. Auf sehr saugfähigem Papier, wie den meisten Druckerpapieren, kommt dieser Effekt weniger oder garnicht zur Geltung. Da bleibt von der Tinte ein einfarbiger, aber immer noch sehr schöner, dunkler Rotton. Am besten nutzt man eine eher breite Feder ("B", "BB" oder eine Kalligraphiefeder) und Papier mit sehr glatter Oberfläche, um diesen schönen, schattierenden Farbton so richtig wirken zu lassen. Briefpapier oder Federzeichenpapier sind gut geeignet, oder generell solches, dass explizit für das Schreiben oder Zeichnen mit Tinte hergestellt ist. Ich habe die Tinte in mehreren Füllern mit verschiedenen Federstärken von fein bis breit und mit einer 1,9mm breiten Kalligraphiefeder getestet. Die Tinte fließt immer gut und "saftig" aus der Federspitze. Auch mit Glasfeder und klassischer Metallfeder zum eintunken funktioniert sie gut. Ancient Copper ist schnell zu einer meiner meistbenutzten Tinten geworden, daher habe ich das große 80 ml Glas gekauft. Die ist verhältnismäßig deutlich günstiger als die 30 ml Plastikfläschen. Ein solches hatte zuvor zum testen der Farbe gekauft und meiner Partnerin geschenkt, die ebenfalls begeistert von der Tinte ist und nun auch viel damit schreibt. Das große, robuste Glas ist schwer und kippt nicht leicht beim auffüllen des Füllers um (wie es bei Behältnissen anderer Tinten zuweilen der Fall ist, auch den kleinen Plastikflaschen von Diamine). Einen Nachteil gibt es dennoch: Die Tinte ist nicht wasserfest und kann auch nach langem Trocknen sehr leicht durch Flüssgkeit abgespült und verschmiert werden. Dokumentenecht ist sie ebenfalls nicht. So wird sie allerdings auch nicht beworben. Wen das nicht stört, kann hier bedenkenlos zugreifen. Ich bin begeistert und nutze das dunkle, satte, Ancient Copper für das Schreiben von Karten, Briefen, Journal, Prosatexte und meine Lyrik.

Runs a little on the wetter side, good lubrication even on the scratchy Lamy EF nibs. But the color is just lovely. The price should be lower. Actual price is probably a fifth of what is listed here.
