K&N Engine Air Filter: A High-Performance, Cost-Effective Upgrade
I purchased the K&N Engine Air Filter (33-2106-1) for my vehicle on November 22, 2016, and it has proven to be an exceptional addition. Designed for a range of Ford, Mercury, and Mazda models from 1997-2011, including Ranger, Explorer, Mountaineer, and others, this air filter has significantly enhanced my vehicle's performance. The engineering behind this air filter is impressive. It's not just about filtering air; it's about boosting horsepower and acceleration while improving the overall engine performance. The state-of-the-art air filter media is a game changer for anyone looking to enhance their vehicle's capabilities.Durability is a key aspect of the K&N Air Filter. It is made with rugged, premium materials, ensuring it lasts a lifetime. This is not an exaggeration, as I've been using it for years now and it still performs like new.The 4-layer protection system, featuring premium cotton gauze treated with a specially-designed tacking agent, creates an intricate mesh that effectively blocks harmful contaminants. This level of protection is vital for maintaining a healthy engine. One of the most appealing features is the low maintenance requirement. It only needs cleaning every 75,000 miles under normal highway driving conditions, which is roughly once every five years. This convenience is a significant advantage over regular filters. The cost-effectiveness of the K&N Filter is undeniable. It's washable and reusable, saving a considerable amount compared to purchasing multiple disposable filters over the course of 200,000 miles. The no-hassle lifetime limited warranty adds to the value, providing peace of mind regarding its longevity and quality. Additionally, installation is a breeze. The filter comes pre-oiled and is ready to drop into the factory air box, making it one of the most straightforward and cost-effective vehicle upgrades for quick performance gains. As of today, the filter is still functioning flawlessly in my vehicle. It's a testament to the quality and durability that K&N promises. For anyone considering an air filter upgrade, I highly recommend the K&N Engine Air Filter for its performance enhancement, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

Better gas mileage
I go to the same camping spot every year. This year I installed a k&n air filter. I used to use three quarters of a tank of gas, this year I only used half a tank! I can't be sure if the horse power increased (I have a 4 cylinder Ranger, and loaded down) but I feel like it cruised on uphill grades better.

Perfect!
Just what I needed I had one, but I needed to buy another one when they switch out that way I don’t have to worry about washing it to put it back in there waiting for it to dry, etc. Exactly what I ordered as described. Thank you.

Just bought it for my 2005 Ford Explorer Sports Trac (only 60k miles)
Ok - so the debate rages on, does this increase ANYTHING in your car? This will be a two part post. I am about to leave my house and drive 1,200 miles round trip from TN to FL over the next week. My wife drove this car, hardly put any miles on it so when she insisted she needed a new car (really, 50k miles in 7 years and my Honda has 160k miles in 7 years??) I said fine. I'll take the truck, give the Honda to my son.Just put some major work in on the truck - all liquids (radiator, break lines, transmission) flushed and filled, new plugs, new spark plug cables, new battery, belts and alternator were fine - reconditioned. Immediately noticed improved power - it was back. I was getting 13 to 16 MPG, must have been a fouled plug as it idled rough. Now back to where is was 16-18 MPG.To make sure i don't get really bad gas to skew my results - I am going to run nothing lower than 90 octane gas (donations anyone...lol). I'm going to run the first 900 miles on the new paper filter. When I get to FL, I will put in the K&N and log the mileage back and repost. 3 stars until I get back and log results.Let the games begin ..... got to go. I have tee times on Monday - YES.4/10/14 - Part 2 - the drive WITHOUT the filter:239.3 miles / 13.671 gallons = 17.50 MPG (city and hwy)244.9 miles / 12.79 = 19.15 MPG (all hwy)274.8 miles / 14.379 = 19.11 MPG (all hwy)490.0 / 28.711 = 17.10 MPG (city and hwy)Trip to FL totals - 1,249.9 miles / 69.551 gal = 17.97 MPGInstall filter and will track mileage going back.4/27/14 - Part 3 - the drive WITH the filter:Best stretch was 19.60 MPG but the bottom lineTrip from FL totals - 1,226.6 miles / 68.087 gal = 18.02 MPG.Closing comment - so the MPG wasn't so much of a gain BUT the drive experience does seem a lot better.I was wondering how a product could be touted as both adding power but some also say increased MPG. I guess my 1,200 mile trips shows not a lot of gain in the MPG.However, I will pass on my observations. The Tachometer was running at a lower RPM on the trip back than on the trip up. Setting the cruise control, running at 75 MPH (not saying I was doing that as that would be breaking the law) the tac was around 2,750 RPM. On the way back it would barely exceed 2,500 RPM on the nose. In fact, a few times the gas kicked in on a hill, I would almost shoot to 80 MPH. Going 60 and needing to pass, ease the gas and the power was there. The get up and go does seems to be a lot better. With the lower tac I was kind of expecting better mileage but that was not the case.Moving rating to 4 stars. Glad I bought the K&N filter. I don't need to "step on it" to get up to speed or increase speed and there is a "feel" of additional power.Hope this helps those considering this filter

works very well
I have measured the fuel consumption of my truck very well. It is 24 mpg. With this filter, the consumption remains exactly the same. What is certain is that it feels more agile in acceleration, which I can also notice.

It’s a K&N, you can’t go wrong
I have a K&N filter in everything I own, including my quads. I would put one in a minivan if I ever owned one, they make a noticeable improvement on throttle response, power and even fuel economy.

Seems to be working good
My ranger was incredibly dusty when I first got it. Cleaned out the engine bay then took out the dirty filter and put this one in. Acceleration seems more responsive and just runs smoother in general. This is definitely pricey for a filter but I think this product will pay for itself over time.

Great Filter
Filter arrived quickly just as described. Fit my truck perfectly. Hoping for reduced gas consumption with it. Still too early to tell.
