Tamiya Models Avro Lancaster B Mk.I/III Model Kit

From Japan, way ahead of schedule and in perfect condition. As for the product itself, I haven't opened/assembled it, but it's from Tamiya so I'm sure it's good.

I have not yet started to build the model, so I can't comment on how well it all fits together. But the finish and detail on the parts are excellent, and I'm looking forward to starting it in the near future.

The pre-painted canopy frame lines were a very nice surprise, given how much framing is on this plane. Overall, the parts fit well, though a couple of the engine cowling to wing joints were troublesome.For a big model with a lot of joint seams, this one is pretty tight. It also gives you the option to display two of the Merlin engines.

As a re-beginner this kit is going to be a challenge but patience will pay off in a super finished kit.

I am currently building the plane. My problem with the model is that there are far too many small parts, almost microscopically small in some places. These parts are difficult if not impossible to handle. Even with tweezers they pose a problem. Their size makes them hard to trim and to glue in place. Attempting to glue them can result in getting glue on other parts of the model and marring the appearance. It would have been better had some of these tiny parts been built into the model. The model is sufficiently complex to assemble that avoiding having to deal with such minuscule parts would not detract from the modeling experience itself.Furthermore, some of the pieces are so firmly attached to the frames that removing them can result in breakage if you are not very careful.The pictorial directions are clear enough, but I would advise due care when selecting which version of the plane you wish to assemble and ensuring that you pay particular attention to assembling the components of the model you have chosen. In this respect I though the instructions on building the front and rear turrets could have been clearer.I will report on any other assembly issues as I progress.

I gave up on this kit. The main landing gear structure is a nightmare of breakable parts and flimsy fits. The builder needs a construction jig to hold parts in alignment. Also, too many external pieces are just butted up against the main structure with no anchoring socket. I had to reattach some parts three times requiring ugly big blobs of cement. Keep ‘er moving.

Ajusta bastante bien

Been building models all my life. RC planes and plastic. This model was with out a doubt the poorest quality model IV e encountered. So many pieces that did not fit properly . This made for a very difficult build and took longer than needed trying to make things fit properly. To say Im dissapointed is putting it mildly. Was really looking forward to adding it to my Hurricane and Spitfire collection.

Haven’t started model yet but Tamiya’s Lancaster looks excellent, very detailed and quite big.

WWIIの後期1942.2に英空軍初出撃の4発重爆撃機, このモデルは良く再現, 搭乗員7名にモデルは４体不足, 地上要員でもない妙な2体がついております。 組み立て注意としてはエンジン、主脚ら組み立てまえに作成するものは後の接着部位を考慮, とくにエンジン装着が難しいです。また機銃は組み立て初期に装着するので折れ易い。破損の予備が揃っているパーツが多くあります。サイズは 1/４8 で場所を取ります。対独戦で同時活躍した米空軍 B-17 とほぼ同サイズで, 機長は Lancaster (L) が 1.6m より短く, 日本海軍の双発機 一式陸空 とほぼ同じ。これは不評だった双発爆撃機 Manchester の胴体を L が利用したため。L の最大の特徴は高い爆弾搭載量で通常 3.6 ton, 最大10 ton (B-17, 2t, 3.6t). 英国民は認めてませんが, 欠点は防御銃座。歩兵 rifle 銃とおなじ威力の無い7.7mm 2連装銃を3基のみ、前方,上部,尾部に。しかし銃座はすべて高度な油圧式回転銃座で、日本爆撃機共通の7.7mm 1本の人力防御銃座とは大違い。Lにも下部銃座は無く初出撃で半数が独戦闘機に撃墜され、以後は夜間爆撃に変更。昼間爆撃は防御に強い B-17 が担当 防御機銃は米空軍共通の12.7mm を 13基。その他の L の諸元: エンジン, 4 x Rolls-Roys Merlin XX V-12, 1,280 hp, 液冷型。直径4m の3枚ペラ。 最高, 巡航速度は 454km/h, 320km/h で B-17 と同程度。行動範囲は 4,070km (B-17, 3,219 km). 作戦高度は 6,500m (B-17, 10,850m). L の機体は強靭で宙返り, 逆転飛行が可能。作戦帰路はエンジン２基で。独空軍の迎撃がなくなった 1945 には昼間行動が可能になり飢餓に苦しむ北部オランダへの食糧投下は有名。L による功績は Ruhr valley の 3 貯水池をUpkeep, bouncing 爆弾で破壊, 独戦艦 Tirpitz を 3.6ton Tallboy 爆弾で撃沈。L の爆撃出撃は 156,000 回, 総爆弾投下量は 681,645ton (B-17, 640,035ton), 喪失数は夜間でも 3,246機 (B-17, 3,126). 登場員死亡数 15,000, 負傷数 70,000. L の escape hatch は狭く成功率15% (他機の平均は50%). 生産数は 7.377機 (B-17, 12,731). L の生産コストは B-17の1/3. なお爆撃機としての経済効率は木製で双発の Mosquitoに分があります。 されには L 796機が米軍機と数日にわたり盲爆した東部ドイツの Dresden (300,000 死亡, 公表の10倍) の市民虐殺, 独降伏前日のBreslau爆撃による市民虐殺、ならびに B-17による深夜の東京下町爆撃による市民 100,000 - 125,.000 の虐殺は戦後各国から批判されています。共通の指揮官は米空軍 Cuertis E LeMay 将軍です。皮肉にも日本政府は自衛隊空軍創設の功績により将軍に最高の旭日大勲位を授与して批判されています (NYT 1964, Dec 8).　Lancaster と B-17 を並置していますが敵機ながら壮観です。
