Q: What's the difference between this drum and the HE-3000 Aluminum Doumbek, Black Vinyl? Do they sound different or is it just the design?

Actually not to much, I played both side by side at guitar center at the point they had both there, I really thought the vinal covered one would be slightly quieter because it was must be muffled by the vinal skin, but there really wasn't any difference I could hear, I chose the black engraved design and I love it, it got done scratches and marks on it from my own ware and tear and other peoples as well, the vinal might be a good protection against it but it depends on the look you're going for and what outfits you might ware wen playing it, but I really think they sound the same, honestly I couldn't tell the difference even tho I expected to落

Q: Where can I get a replacement head for this drum?

You can find them on Amazon or , but you have to get a Meinl head as they are 8 1/2" rather than the 8" or 8 3/4" of other brands.

Q: How heavy is this? I am trying to replace a ceramic doumbek and the specs for this lists 2 different weights - 17.2 and 7.2 lbs.

The actual weight is closer to 7.2. I weighed myself with and without the doumbek. The difference was only about 6 lbs. I am guessing that is a rough measure since I used an ordinary bathroom scale. This doumbek is made out of aluminum, definitely a lot lighter than ceramic.
