Great little radio
I'm a radio guy, and always has been. This is my first HD radio. I live in a rural area, and don't receive that many stations that offer additional digital programming, but I've tried it in larger cities, and it's remarkable. It's a small radio but the sound is better than other radios of similar size. It's not the best for music, but dialogue comes in very clear. Some reviews mention that batteries don't last long in this radio but I haven't experienced that, maybe because of the shortage of digital programming in my area. I own several other radios, but if I want to listen to something in an area where another radio is not set up, this is the one I grab. It easily receives stations from a city 40-miles distant, and is easily portable and fits just about anywhere.

Good small, portable radio
I read reviews for this radio. People complained about the sound. I think for a radio the size of your hand, it has pleasant, crisp sound. A radio this size will not sound like a concert hall, but for the size, I think this has good sound. Someone complained it doesn't do HD. Yes, it does, but you may have to read the instructions to find out how to locate the HD channels. My other Sangean radio has an HD button. This one, once you find a station with HD, you need to use the tuning (up/down) buttons to get to the additional stations. Pressing HD Seek again won't get you there. This is a good very small radio, in my opinion. I got a refurb for $50.00, so I'm happy with the price, as well, and think it's a fair value for the quality of the radio. It will be easy to take with me. Also seems to have an alarm, although I haven't tried using that. I'm quite happy with the small footprint and quality.

A Small Radio with a Big Sound!
I've purchased several Sangean radios through the years. I find their radios to be excellent. This is another winner! It's small. It fits in your hand. It's about 30% larger than a deck of playing cards. It reminds me of the transistor radios we had as kids growing up in the 50's and 60's. They never sounded this good! It's got digital tuning, which is precise. It has 20 presets for FM and 20 presets for AM. And it's got a great telescoping antenna. For a little radio the sound is great. (Remember, you're not buying a boom-box with a 15" woofer!) Also, I purchased on Amazon the "factory refurbished" model and saved a few bucks. It's like brand new, and it's good to know the factory went over it. Bottom line, if you're looking for a radio this size, look no further. Hope that helps.

Good radio. But design and features have not caught up with the times.
I bought this radio primarily for its HD Radio functionality, and it works. I am mostly pleased with the radio. I did not have any issues with it not being able to sync the clock or with losing station presets. I removed rechargeable batteries for about half a day to recharge them, and the radio did not lose any stations. Small things I would like to see: * 20 presets is mostly enough, although I do not see how hard would it be to make it virtually unlimited with today's memory technology. * the screen comes directly from 1980s - low resolution, ugly font, letters like "g" do not descend below baseline, you can see it on the official photos. The typeface is the least that can be improved without replacing the screen. The metadata scrolls right to left, one has to stare for about 15-20 seconds to get all the info, I wish I could read it all at once. * HD Radio stations send not only performer name and song title, but album art as well. This radio does not display it. A small color screen would be a nice addition. I can see reasoning for not using always-on color screen because it will drain batteries very quickly, then how about e-Ink screen? It only draws power when image is updated. Some minimal logic would check when the info is changed, and would update the screen. This way the info will be higher-res and I can see album art, albeit in monochrome. * I would like to see presets that I made in a list, and to be able to choose directly from the list (but keep the physical buttons!) * Move power button someplace else, when I hold the radio in my right hand, I have nowhere to place my thumb. * Use headphone cable as antenna when the main antenna is retracted, this is what smartphones do. * Allow selecting explicitly analog or HD. Likewise, allow selecting analog or HD for presents. Presently, if I programmed main/HD1 station, H2 and H3 onto three buttons, when the radio cannot tune to HD, it plays the same main analog feed on all three buttons, it should not be doing it. * Speaker is tinny and not loud enough. Modern speakers of this size sound better. * It would be nice to have Bluetooth to listen through wireless headphones. Overall, I am happy though. Not too many HD Radio options to choose from, and this is a solid one.

More complex than a pocket size portable radio ought to be.
This LITTLE radio is more a computer than radio. It's complex, unlike a radio where ON-OFF and frequency tuning is obvious and intuitive, and all that's needed. The Sangean has menus, scrolling and not easy access to saved stations / frequencies. I don't think it's ready for Prime Time.

Very portable HD radio
I was interested in HD radio since I first heard of it a decade ago. At the time, the availability of HD radio was limited, at least reasonably priced ones. The Sangean HDR-14 is reasonably priced and remarkably compact considering its features. The mono speaker has decent sound quality. You can connect the headphone output with a cable to an amplifier for high fidelity stereo sound. I like that the radio has the AM band, but I'm disappointed I haven't been able to receive even one HD AM broadcast. Ironically, it was on my favorite talk radio AM stations that I first heard advertisements for HD radio, but I can't receive any HD broadcasts on AM. However, there are a good number of HD FM radio stations in my area (within 50 miles from NYC). Actually, you can receive more radio channels on HD FM radio that are not available on analog radios. Some FM stations have additional HD channels. This radio also displays the station ID and song info. The Sangean HDR-14 includes an AC adapter for home use. I take it with me in the car running on AA (3) batteries. I much prefer using ubiquitous AA batteries instead of an internal battery. I love it. I have two of these radios. I highly recommend it.

Great HD radio for its size
This small HD radio, (3 x 5 inches), sounds great! I wanted to be able to move it with me from room to room or outside, and this one fits the bill. Its corded or uses batteries. Now I can hear my HD jazz station wherever I am.
