Extremely educational!
I read a book called 1453 about the Muslim sack of Constantinople (I love history) and it references a lot of eye opening history of Muslim attacks / conquests of Christian lands from the levant and the formerly Christian Byzantine areas and across formerly Christian North Africa and Spain. I have been scratching my head about the caliphate claims of modern day ISIS and all of the reference to early Islam with the beheadings of non-believers, etc vs hearing Barack Obama (who I voted for and mostly support) and others calling Islam a religion of peace. Hmm. I believe that anyone having similar cognitive dissonance about these extreme POVs should read this book. You will learn how the Prophet Mohammed was poisoned to death by his own family, how the successors to him were war mongers prior to converting and quickly took back to their old ways and set some awful precedent for the religion that is not true to what Mohammed taught (they were both killed as well by their own families). It is a wild ride, but I am now comfortable with the distinction of Islamist (politicized power play governments acting falsely in the name of Islam) vs peaceful Islamic scholars. I have a super clear understanding between Sunni and Shia denominations and how Ali’s succession was generally a more peaceful one (not always) and that Sunni Wahhabism is a totally out of control violent throwback version of Sunni Islam started in the 1700’s as well as the Iranian revolution that has led to much suffering on the part of good, innocent people who are being lied to. I could really go on and on but this gave me so much empathy for much of the Muslim world while also giving me alarm as a Westerner at our ignorance as a society of how much the Islamist (government funded extremists) have a say in what goes on in our Western Mosques. It’s absolutely unacceptable! Separation of church and state needs to be enforced across borders, but we turn a blind eye because we aspire to not discriminate against those practicing their faith. The problem is, a lot are Iranian or Saudi Arabian government funded hate-pods that are masked to the actual detriment of fair and respectful religious freedom. I am going to share this book with some friends and hopefully it’s educational influence will spread a little further. I highly recommend it.

An honest, critical look at Islam from an insider
This book was an eye-popping experience. Like most people in the west who want to be kind to and respect our Muslim neighbors, but worried about the horrific stories about what is happening in the world today, even within our own countries, and our government's and media's efforts to cover these bad things up and censor people from talking about it, it was refreshing to read about the life of the Prophet Mohammad from an Imam who reveres him, but took the time to sort through which truths in the Quran were uttered by the Prophet himself, versus all the horrific stuff that's being attributed to him which, it appears, was written by the same people who murdered his family, took over his faith, and killed his rightful heirs. If you're a non-Muslim, it will make the schism between Sunni and Shia make sense, and make you wonder WHY, today, both versions of Islam seem so hell-bent on covering these shameful things up (hint: follow the money / follow the chain of power). Recommend reading if you want to understand Islam without either fawning all over it like an "aplogist" (not a good idea ... this same twisted ideology was responsible for Muhammad's own death and much of his bloodline) or coming across like a racist jerk.

An honest introspection
Imam Tawhedi has a lot of courage to speak out critically on matters of faith, as firebrands would easily consider this blasphemous. Many of us know all too well the sad, violent fate that meets alleged Muslim "blasphemers", which was recently highighted by the beheadings in France. Sadly, a blind eye is turned on the issues discussed in the book by Western "liberals" and left-of-center ideologues/journalists for the purpose for the sake of political correctness and wokeness. So I would say this is a must-read for Western "liberals" along with "Chasing a Mirage" by Tarek Fatah and "SUBMISSION: The Danger of Political Islam to Canada: (With a Warning to America)" by Thomas Quiggin.I first found out about him on Youtube and podcast interviews. His book is as clearly written as he is well-spoken in those interviews.

What a courageous man! This is not only an authoritative book but outlines the true course of history history of the Muslim religion including the overwhelming violence and greed associated with the institution. I would have liked to see a second book by this Imam that includes the spirituality of Islam which is very beautiful. Unfortunately, much Focus needs to be placed on the ugliness of the institution of Islam so that there is a chance that reform is possible. One can only hope that the time will come that more people will realize the destructive elements that exist in the institution of Islam and will turn to its spiritual Beauty as a intended by the Prophet Muhammad. I would that all people interested in this subject would read this book Muslim and non-muslim alike. Saying that, I expect that this wonderful man will prevent martyrdom only by the power of God. May we all pray for him.
This is one of the finest books I've ever read and the first that is ever clarified the corruption that exists in the institution of Islam. The tragedy of Islam is that but such a beautiful spiritual Awakening that is found in the Koran would be corrupted by greed and the Rob use of power that has existed since its beginning. Imam tawhidi has a fortified a strong case with multiple references to show forth the violent nature of this religion and as clarified that the predominant force in Islam remains dedicated to violence and a misunderstanding of the spiritual Beauty inherent to the Quran. This book deserves a wide reading not the least of which should be in the hands of our government to understand the force of Darkness that continues to dominate the religion as a whole. I would like to see another book buy this wonderful in mom who will clarify the true spirituality of Islam. Unfortunately, for all this great work that NY Imam tawhidi has accomplished it will only be the power of God that saves him from martyrdom

Interesting read.
This book covered many Islamic topics and exposed the tyrannical caliphs of the past and present with recognised Muslim sources of the Sunni/Shia denominations.Well written, researched and unbiased in nature. Highly enjoyed reading it with a taste of comedy every now and again.I only have one gripe with the book. I do realise this book is talking about the islamist nature of some Muslims and why they commit terrorist attacks by fundamentalist attributed teachings. It would also been more sincere to ALSO talk about the western foreign policy from the left AND right of the political spectrum, that exacerbated terrorism within the Middle East. Since Mohammed Tawhidi refers to himself as the 'Imam of Peace' and if he genuinely views himself in that manner, it also would have been necessary to LABEL military interventions from the west as terrorism also. This would be a fair outlook to have for an Imam of Peace.

Not a literary masterpiece but worth very wide readership.
Mohamad Tawhidi is a controversial character. Many know him as a self styled Islam reformist. As an Imam he is unrecognised and vilified in his own country of Australia. It is claimed that his credentials are difficult to verify. But there is little doubt that he is educated in Iranian and Iraqi religious establishments. From Twitter my impressions were mixed about The Imam of Peace, as he calls himself. Having read this book, although I’m still not sure about his strategy I have come to admire his courage in uncovering the debauched and depraved historical past of the original islamic leaders following the Prophet, who in His Wisdom, left his own succession vague. Nobody knew to whom the baton of Islamic leadership was passed. Hence the dichotomy of Sunni and Shia, a major source of untold misery and curse upon Muslims as well as the whole of the civilised world.Tawhidi derides the Majority of Muslims without using the word Sunnis and often rather than using epithets such as hardliners, fundamentalists or even extremists, he overuses the term terrorists. Challengingly he also asserts that Al Quaeda and ISIS represent mainstream Islamic belief. His own willingness to project a balanced polemic he does unearth some evil deeds by his own Shia sect followers. The most startling is his critique of the Iranian Ayatollahs, accusing them of financial irregularities, political intrigue, untruths, debauchery and paedophilic practices thrown in for good measure. According to the author’s research Ayatollah Khomeini was actually a Sikh but claimed Prophet Mohammad’s lineage. But there is no doubt about where his sympathies lie, and that is understandable. However, he has little to say about the hereditary succession of Shia imams (following the death of Prophet Mohammad), their authenticity, their mission and teachings and how that differed from the morality and ethics, the teachings and methods of Sunni Caliphs. Thus it begs the question as to why this important distinction and dichotomy is left only partially illuminated. This book is not a literary masterpiece. Initial chapters are about his transition into an Imam and written anecdotally in a naïve, ‘fifth form’ English. “We were sitting at the dinner table eating dinner”, just sticks in mind.As the book progresses there is a distinct linguistic uplift, almost as though from a different pen. Perhaps here he has summoned editorial input from someone better versed in the vernacular. As a previous devout Muslim but now an agnostic and an non-practising Shia Muslim I still harbour a soft spot for Ahl-alBayt as well as the cities like Qum, Karbala and Najaf with all the holy shrines. It’s all almost hardwired into my psyche but I do object to how Tawhidi unleashes unbridled polemic against the initial Sunni caliphate. His ‘no holds barred’ approach to graphically describe stomach churning and heinous practices of Prophet Mohammad’s fathers in law makes uncomfortable reading even for me. How this approach is meant to pave the way to bring peace and harmony within Islam baffles me, even if all this muck raking can be backed up by reliable evidence. It’s tempting to think that his agenda is self promotion as a reformist and thus gain credence, adulation and admiration from non Muslims.Nevertheless I’m prepared to give him benefit of the doubt and reserve judgement until his sequel emerges where he promises to show us the way towards peace in Islam, and the world. In meantime I wish he refrained from stoking rather than dousing the fires of unrest and Islamophobia. Following Norte Dame fire he produced, on Twitter, a long list of Muslims rejoicing at this tragedy. Again, some negative comments he spouted about the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was outside his remit and unbecoming of an Imam of Peace. This book has left me enlightened about the sordid origins of Islam. If Tawhidi’s references are honourable it is extremely worrying that the relentless path taken by Islamic extremists, terrorists, anti-Zionists, Wahhabists, and fundamentalists will entrench Islam in the quagmire of derision and hatred and bitter conflict for centuries to come. Every now and again the author alluded to a possible glimmer of hope. But that soon vanished like will-o’-the-wisp.Despite my reservations this book is unique and well worth very wide readership.
