Great sound in a beautiful case
Like another reviewer I had a Marantz PM6005 previously but found the sound muddy and muffled run through a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 220s. I bought the CXA60 knowing that the sound was likely to be brighter and expecting nothing too much more than that. The sound turned out to be much more in every respect with brighter cymbals, snappier snare drums and, unexpectedly, more and tighter bass. In fact I thought that the amp was now showing up my speakers and upgraded these to Monitor Audio Bronze. The new speakers really brought out the quality of the amp (and the speakers) and I would thoroughly recommend the pairing for a well balanced sound. I play all kinds of music (mainly flac files and hi res internet radio currently through a Squeezebox) and also use the setup for audio from the TV. The quality and style of the case is also excellent and the remote is pretty good also, turning up the volume smoothly by actually turning the volume dial as if you were doing it manually. The only gripe I have is that this model does not have built in Bluetooth requiring an additional proprietary dongle, or a Google audio Chromecast if you can find one. For that you need the CXA80 which is more expensive, more powerful and a different design, presumably giving a somewhat different sound. Both models have now been upgraded so the previous versions should be comparatively cheap, although there don't seem to be many around. The offer price of this model on Amazon at time of writing is something ridiculous - over £1,000. I think the rrp was £599 and generally on sale for £499 new so secondhand mint might be around £350, which is what I paid.

Cambridge cxa 60 stupendo

Massive Improvement
So I have a pair of DIY bookshelf speakers that use some 4 and 6 ohm woofer and tweeter combination. They're power hungry speakers. I've been feeding them with an otherwise capable Teac amplifier that provides 50 watts per channel. That just wasn't enough to make my Dayton Audio home brewed speakers come to life. This Cambridge amp has been on my wish list long enough that I decided to pull the trigger and get it.For starters, it's stunning to look at. It's heavy due to the rather bulky toroidal transformer crammed inside. This thing delivers current in spades to my hungry drivers. The soundstage opened way up and bass is much sharper and defined. I feed it with spdif from my tv which is fed via Nvidia Shield TV with Tidal App installed. North of $500 is more than I wanted to spend until I heard the results. Movies and music are amazing again. Very glad I pulled the trigger on these.
