Steel cut is the way to go, Bob's Red Mill is the place to get it.
Bob's Red Mill has always produced high quality product, specifically their oatmeal I think steel cut is the best thing they do. If you know, you know. If you don't, you should. Steel cut oats take a while to cook, but they are worth every minute you have to wait. The flavor is great, the texture is different, and Bob's Red Mill has been one of the go-to suppliers of this for years. Best yet, this is four large packages, at less than you'll pay at the store. Careful though, if you try this, you may never be able to go back to regular oatmeal.

THANK YOU BOB FOR YOUR OATMEAL
CAN WE LIVE WITHOUT THIS - NO! WE LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS STEAL CUT OATMEAL. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. IT TAKES 20 MINUTES TO COOK BUT WHEN DONE IT IS SO CREAMY. I ADD BUTTER WHILE IT IS COOKING AND RIGHT AT THE END ADD HALF AND HALF - JUST A LITTLE, AND HONEY. STIR IT ALL IN AND SERVE WITH BLUEBERRIES AND WALNUTS OR PECANS - ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS.

A Wholesome and Hearty Breakfast Staple
As a health-conscious individual always on the lookout for nutritious breakfast options, I was excited to try Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats in the sizable 54 Oz package. Hereโs my comprehensive review after incorporating these oats into my morning routine. **Quality and Texture:** The quality of Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats is immediately noticeable. The oats are uniform in size and have a beautiful, natural appearance. When cooked, they offer a delightful chewy texture, which is a pleasant departure from the often mushy texture of rolled oats. **Flavor:** These steel-cut oats have a wonderfully nutty and wholesome flavor. They are less processed than other types of oats, which seems to enhance their natural, earthy taste. This makes them an excellent canvas for a variety of toppings and mix-ins. **Nutritional Value:** Packed with fiber and protein, these oats are a filling and nutritious choice for breakfast. They provide sustained energy throughout the morning, which is perfect for those with active lifestyles or anyone looking for a fulfilling start to their day. **Cooking Time:** Steel-cut oats generally take longer to cook than rolled or instant oats. However, I found that the cooking process for Bob's Red Mill is straightforward and worth the extra time. The end result is a hearty and satisfying meal. **Versatility:** These oats are incredibly versatile. They're not only great for a classic bowl of oatmeal but also work well in recipes like overnight oats, oatmeal bakes, and even savory porridge. Their robust texture holds up well in various preparations. **Packaging:** The packaging is simple, sturdy, and resealable, which helps keep the oats fresh. The 54 Oz size offers great value, especially for those who consume oats regularly. **Price Point:** Given the quality and quantity, the price is reasonable. Bob's Red Mill is a trusted brand known for its commitment to high-quality, natural products, and these oats are no exception. **Conclusion:** Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a nutritious, versatile, and tasty breakfast option. The texture, flavor, and quality set these oats apart from other options on the market. Whether you're a fitness enthusiast, a busy professional, or someone who enjoys a hearty breakfast, these steel-cut oats are sure to satisfy. Theyโre a staple in my kitchen now, and I highly recommend them to others.

Great taste and good for your gut!
Bob's Red Mill products offer consistent quality. I have always liked oats; normally bought rolled oats but have recently moved to the steel cut variety. These have a nice mouth feel (a bit reminiscent of pearl barley but a bit smaller and softer) and keep hunger away longer than the rolled ones. These are healthy as well as my total cholesterol has dropped by 25 points, and I can attribute that to nothing else besides eating steel cut oats on a daily basis. Many people complain about the cooking time and yes, these do take longer to prepare than the quick oat version but are worth the wait. The easy way to prepare is to make them in a rice cooker or even at very low temp in the oven overnight. Try and you'll be sold.

The Gold Standard for Steel Cut Oats. Hands-Free Instant Pot Prep Method Friendly
This review is for Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats, 24-ounce (Pack of 4). I purchased this in my search for a replacement for my other brand of "cracked n' toasted" oats that a big box store was no longer carrying. The oats come in a branded resealable bag emblazoned with a lot of messaging on the front, including "an employee-owned company", "the 100% whole grain award winning cereal", and "the Golden Spurtle". What I especially liked about this bag is that there are a few transparent sections near the bottom that lets you see the actual steel cut oats inside. Looking inside the bag, the oats appear to be of high quality and there is minimal/no? sediment. The back side of the bag includes your standard Nutrition Facts, a brief blurb about the Golden Spurtle, and a couple of preparation methods (stovetop and traditional slow cooker). Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats are true steel cut oats that have that fantastic bite, texture, and inherent dietary benefits you would expect from steel cut oats. I performed a quick comparison of rolled, "cracked n' toasted", and Bob's steel cut oats using Nutrition Facts (normalized for serving size) and was surprised to find that Bob's steel cut oats provide almost double the calories, total fat, total carbohydrates, dietary fiber, total sugars, and proteins vs. an equivalent amount of rolled oats. I believe much of that is due to steel cut oats being almost 4x denser/compact than rolled oats with a side benefit of providing a longer sensation of being full. My go-to prep method for steel cut oats is to add 1 cup water with 1/3 cup steel cut oats (3:1 ratio) to an Instant Pot, set it for five minutes high pressure on manual, and then natural release. Total hands-free cooking time from pressing the button to when the float valve drops is 15-20 minutes. Afterwards you can spice it up with a sprinkle of matcha, cookie crumbs (secret weakness), nuts, or even cereal (!). The result is a great bowl of steel cut oatmeal with a slight nutty flavor and almost "Q" texture to it that is an improvement over my previous go-to brand. Overall, I would recommend Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats as the gold standard for steel cut oats. They are high quality and are easy to use for a delicious bowl of oatmeal.

Great but manufacturers packaging issue
We love steel cut oats and make it in the instapot. This brand is reputable also in our experience. However, be aware that our shipment of four bags, which also arrived in the manufacturer box, had a split or slice in one of the bags creating a huge mess and loss of product. We still love the product and the brand and the product loss wasnโt a big deal but the mess it made was. So I just wanted to alert fellow consumers to be cautious when opening as there may be a packaging defect that could cause a huge mess all over your floor!

Good product for the price.
These oats are a bit chewier than my regular Irish steel cut oats, but I do like them. I use 1/4 cup of oats to 3/4 cup of water, a pinch of salt, some chopped walnuts, a hint of cinnamon, and most importantly a pat of butter. Great breakfast in 5 minutes. Great product and very reasonably priced.

The product is ... meh. OK, not great.
It servees my purpse, and it's not my favorite. It does not cook up the way I like my steel cut oats. The only reason I bought it was because it was all I could find here in Bordeaux.
