Cardinal Gates BX1 10.5 in Baby Gate Extension, Black

This brand of gate and this extension has been a lifesaver for us. Two dogs that have run out into the yard and one got a skunk . This allows us to get a view of the yard before we let them into the yard. The gate is high quality, sturdy, good looking gate. We have another one that is still going strong after seven years of Constant use.

We built our deck with a 4' wide set of stairs...anything less and it's very hard to carry up large grills, tables, etc... But, finding a pet gate that would work on such a wide stair opening was difficult. We found this Cardinal Pet Gate with the optional Extension a perfect choice. This gate system is very strong, coated to prevent rust from the elements, and the hinge system was easy to install. Plus the fact that this optional extension was available allowed us to have our staircase closed off. The Cardinal system has an adjustable main gate, which allows coverage over a nice range of openings. Our 4' opening was just a bit too big, thus we also purchased the extension, which bolts to the main gate making a nice solid gate. Make sure to purchase the stainless-steel screws so you can have rust free protection. One note, the locking mechanism seemed a bit weird when I first saw it, but once installed, it is great! We also use this as a baby gate and the locking mechanism can only be opened by pushing two outer taps at the same time that you lift the gate slightly...very difficult for a toddler...impossible for our cats!

Great add on to make Cardinal's excellent safety gates (both the indoor & outdoor versions) fit openings over 42.5". Looks great, super easy to add to the installation with just a couple bolts & washers. That's where it gets quirky The gates themselves, all 3 color choices, come w/stainless steel hardware (outdoor gates), but the indoor gate hardware is not ss. The extenders have ss hardware for only the brown version. You can either use a brown extender with black or white gates, buy a ss hardware pack (3 bolts + 3 washers) to replace what comes packaged, or go buy those pieces at a local hardware store for $2 or so. Seems like an avoidable customer inconvenience w/ an easy customer centric solution that would be pennies to just upgrade these pieces in all extensions.

Works fine. Bought three gates plus this extension and installed them outside on a deck. So far seems to hold up fine. The only complaint is the latch system. Too cumbersome to use. Can't open the gate without using both hands. and even then can be very awkward to open. I took the locking mechanism off and the gates work fine now with one hand. It still has the pins that hold the gate shut in place by sliding the gate up and dropping pins in the holes as designed. Personally don't see the need for the additional lock that I removed. Gate can not open without being slid up out of holes. It is mounted low enough to the deck so our dog can't get under it to push it up. Never has tried. Anyway, works for me. Seems to hold up to the weather in northern Minnesota fine so far.

Easy to install, does not compromise strength or operation of gate.

Extended my gate so that it could fit perfectly on my front deck. Adds almost no complexity to the installation process. It matches the original gate perfectly.

Gate extension is a great way to fill in the gap. Makes the entire gate look great, sturdy and way better than those wooden gates

It took considerable effort to find a gate that would work for our setup. Our 18-month old daughter had fallen down the stairs at least 6 times and we were becoming increasingly worried about her safety in our new house. I am glad to have found this gate! Spend the extra money and get all the equipment you require. It is worth your peace of mind.
