Komelon 4912IM The Professional 12-Foot Inch/Metric Scale Power Tape, Yellow

I own 6 of these. They're my absolute favorite workshop measuring tape. Light but sturdy and small enough to fit well in my pocket or not take up too much room in my bag. And having imperial and metric on it is fantastic as well.

I've always wondered about the real accuracy of inexpensive tape measures like this. I happen to have access at work to a Starrett tape (model no. 530-30cm) calibrated by Starrett. It's about an $105 tape, no idea what calibration costs. I ran it out to 3.5m and compared it to this little tape and you can see how closely they match. It's certainly good enough for my own use around the house! The size is great to carry and the build quality seems to be acceptable for something this price. I am not a professional contractor, in which case I would probably prefer something with a steel housing, I just like building things at home and doing projects around my house.

While I have a 20 to 30 foot tape measure of course this small 12 foot tape measure is used more than anything. One reason is because it’s always in my pocket. Rarely do we need to measure anything longer than 12 feet so people have become accustomed to asking me for my Tape Measure instead of sending someone to the toolbox to get the big 30 foot tape measure for a 4 foot job. I have dropped it and stepped on it once and it did not break.

OK for a cheap tape measure. I bought it because it also does metric measurements. I’ve been working more with the metric system since I have some new shop tools that best utilize the metric system.

My first Komelon product and it’s made me a big fan. This is perfect for woodworking and its convenient size lets me take it with me when shopping for materials. I also very much like the visibility of the bright yellow case and the easy to read metric and imperial measurements.

I bought this little guy to keep nearby, and it’s been a great everyday tool. The smooth design feels good in the hand, and having both metric and SAE makes it really versatile. The only thing I’d change is adding rubber bumpers on the edges for a bit more protection. Still a solid, handy tape measure.

Since the US is still archaic with measurement standards, it's still necessary for me to include the antique inches/feet measurements when I want to measure all my own projects (and from international blueprints) in much more sane metric standards. This Komelon is cheap and durable and gets the job done, providing excellent value. It isn't crazy compact, but it's not unwieldly either, with all the basic features most measuring tapes now come with.

I have used these for many years and keep going back for more. There is nothing amazing about the design, I just like having both inches and centimeters on the same measuring tape. And the price is reasonable.

I've used many a tape measure in my time. Learning to appreciate the smaller ones like this 12-foot specimen. Does 90% of what I need and it's light as a feather. The coating on the metal tape makes for smooth action and the case is nicely put together. It has a good quality feel. I bought one for the office and then bought another for home once I found out how nice it was. A bargain.

This came from amazon.com and it was shipped to the UK and therefore I thought I thought it was American made. I clearly didn't look closely enough because if I'd known it was made in China then I never would have bought it!
