great stethoscope, cheap even!
This is an excellent piece of workmanship - very low in price and great for work in the health field for basic heart and lungs sounds. I noticed that it didn't come with instructions, so for all the people who are thinking of buying this - you need to know that you can turn the head (hold tube at base of head, and simply twirl it) to get a better/different sound. To hear very clearly, simply place your finger over the hole on the top of the smaller head. Heart tones, breath sounds come in loud and clear. I am so pleased I found this again. I had an older one (might have even been the same brand) that lasted me for quite a while so was looking for a similar lightweight stethoscope that did not pull on the neck, or whose headpiece is so heavy that it became a burden to carry. Before I came to Amazon, I had bought 2 other more expensive stethoscopes in the past month, but they were so heavy and unwieldy, and I could not hear from them as well, so went to Amazon and found these. Very strangely enough, for my ears, this cheap one sounds so much better than those other 2 Prestige stethoscopes (the $19.00 ones). Actually, even better than my old vey expensive Littmans. Also, since the price is so cheap, I will not regret losing it TOO much (like my 2 previous (expensive) Littmans). Well, I suppose we all have different hearing and perceptions of what we hear, so this is my opinion. I do have friends who swear by their Littmans, but for me, this sound is very much clearer.

others had great units and seems simple construction, yet mine was VERY faint sound
Very faint sound. I learned how to use it, bought to listen to the dogs but tried on me...took it to the vets office to have someone experienced try it and they said it was very faint. Said to make sure I was plugging the hole as I did and said "press really hard" and it might be a little better.Putting my ear against their chest is soo much louder. I will ask doc if stethoscope id normally louder than ear to chest and if I will buy another brand incase the batch was machined funny or something.P.s. people tease me for my 'bat hearing'. It really was faint.

cheap but useable.
I got this item to listen to my baby inside my pregnant wife. It is cheap and feels as such, the earpieces are very tightly pushed together by the tension of the way the metal piece is formed. this will keep them in your ears but it feels exactly like it is being pushed in from both sides constantly. The overall length is short but again great for the price and the rubber is tough. Overall it works great when you just need something for a few uses, this is not something I would want to use regularly. However this is exactly what I want in a costume item and I will keep it for that. It's price is great for a costume accessory but the quality is much much better than you would get for a similarly priced costume piece.

A solid working Stethescope for the money
I find it useful and lightweight. The advice from one of the reviews about covering the small hole to get better sounds works great. Also, twisting the head on its base to get the right sound makes a difference. Its a good value and helps me check for a solid rthythm that boosts my confidence my heart is acting normally when i sense it may not be.

Exceptional Price- GREAT for Costume Prop, But It Wouldn't Be My First Choice to Use in a Clinical Setting.
I actually purchased this stethoscope for a prop for a costume, but as a former nurse also have experience using them, so know the good versus bad. The main pro is the price point: since this would be used as a prop, I searched high and low for the cheapest "real" stethoscope on Amazon, and this couldn't be beat. Shipping was SUPER fast and it was at my door within two days. If you're planning on using this professionally, it's good for an at-home steth (ie; to use while monitoring blood pressure, etc), but I personally wouldn't be completely comfortable using this in a clinical setting. The quality isn't all that great (though definitely not awful by any means, and totally useable), but I would (personally) invest in a pricer one. The parts are a bit flimsy, sound quality isn't all that great and a bit muffled, etc. This comes in several separate pieces, so you do need to assemble it, though it couldn't be easier to put together.

What I love about it...it's pretty. What I hate about it: It needs to have an adapter rather than use batteries. Also, I ordered 2, and one arrived barely working. I assumed it needed batteries, but it started working days later. My child opened it on Christmas, and liked it pretty much, but a few minutes later, it completely stopped working. Fortunately, my husband figured out it had a short, and we were able to stretch the spring to better connect, and it now works fine. I would like to actually use it as a night light, but I'm afraid to, as since it has no adapter, I have no idea how long it would last, and the batteries aren't easily replaceable...specifically, they are some type of battery that resemble watch batteries. Also, in case you'd want to know, the round one is not smooth; it has multiple dents all over it.

Works for what I inteded it to do.
I purchased this for my Halloween costume last year, which worked perfect for that application. I've also used it to listen to my dog's heartbeat, my own, et cetera. I am not in the medical field, and do not have the expertise to give an opinion on how this would work in the medical field. Again, I purchased it for my Halloween costume.#thekilted1
