A brilliant work that keeps you engaged
(This is a review of the book, not Amazon shopping experience. It was great as always!)When I started reading it, I was not sure where it was going. But it grew on me and finished strong. I think if I re-read, I might enjoy it even more.Even though it is a (semi) fiction, it has a lot of subtexts that are good food for thought. I really liked the parallel narration with Christ's crucifixion. How the author switches from comic and satire (Soviet era) to empathetic and serious (Christ era)One call out, for a non native Russian, too many local references and names might appear a bit confusing - but they don't dilute the essence of the book.
