How well it works depends on your hose wall thickness
Updated review:I figured out how to tighten this thing properly without destroying my hose. I'm bumping it up to 4 stars.Unfortunately it has no flats on the inside of the hose barb portion and no flats on the outer knurled threaded collar. Here's what I did:1. remove the washer, otherwise it will get destroyed and need to be replaced2. tighten the female end onto a male hose end with hex flats, or possibly on a hose bibb. I didn't want to put too much stress on the hose bibb so I used a hose end. Use an adjustable wrench.3. wrap the knurled collar in a rag and lock some vise grips onto the rag covered collar.4. tighten the collar with the vise grips and the wrench until it's fully tightened. remove the vise grips.5. use 2 adjustable wrenches to separate the female and male hose ends.6. replace the washer. This stabilizes the hose barb while you tighten the collar because it's jammed up against the hose end/hose bibb, which is either fixed in place or can be held with pliers. If you don't do this, you will put a lot of stress on your hose as you attempt, possibly unsuccessfully, to fully tighten the collar, because there is nothing holding the barb in place as you try to tighten the collar. This was a medium duty hose. It may be able to be hand-tightened with light duty hose.Original review:In my case my hose was a little too thick for this to work perfectly, but I was able to get it leakproof. The outer portion wasn't able to thread on fully and tightening it was a bit hard on the hose. What would vastly improve this product is to have both interior and exterior flats like some other hose ends I've seen used on coiled garden hoses, where you can tighten the end by inserting a hex key to keep the hose barb from spinning while you use a wrench to tighten the outer threaded portion. In this case, there are no interior flats so the hose wants to spin while you try to tighten the outside portion, putting a lot of stress on that portion of the hose and not giving you enough grip to fully tighten the hose end even if the hose could take that stress. But it works well enough and it's solid brass. Apparently most 2-3 part hose ends these days are brass plated aluminum that eventually corrodes. I didn't want to deal with a hose clamp, but possibly a 1 piece hose barb type mender would work well with an Oetiker clamp.

Solid Brass Option that looks great and is very functional. Top Quality
I really love this all brass hose mender. It is fairly difficult to install. It really looks fantastic!Cutting the hose strait was easy.It took a bit of work to get the cuff part on the hose (I call it the raspy cylinder) . Make certain it is on just equal to the newly cut hose end.I used a clamping crescent wrench to lock onto the nut portion of the threaded male end (what will be the end of the hose).I used a triple folded paper towel to protect the round raspy cylinder portion on the hose. I used a sizable Channel Lock Pliers to grab tightly to this raspy cylinder portion. [I might use some layers of blue tape on the channel lock pliers directly to protect the brass raspy cylinder in the future] Unfortunately, the channel locks slipped twice and scratched the raspy part. Boo.Anyhow I used the locking crescent wrench to hold the hose male threaded end with the nut part. With the Channel Locks I gradually turned the raspy cylinder end clockwise and turned it onto the the threaded male end to within about less than 1/8" gap between the 2 parts. One might be able to get the two ends closer, but aesthetically this less than 1/8" looks pretty nice. What I Like:1. Works like a charm.2. Nice and compact.3. Looks great (despite my damage by slipping with the channel locks)The brass is a definite improvement over the aluminum that was on the hose originally. Everything fits nicely and snugly with no leaking. I use all-brass accessories for the most part so they tend to be high quality products that don't leak and don't fuse together if I leave them there via the Galvanic Corrosion process.I highly recommend this product and will be buying more of these when the need arises. Best one I have used in my life.

Clean, Safe Repair
Wonderful idea.As installation of this repair kit requires no tools, it is much safer to install than a hose clamp where there's always the risk of the screwdriver slipping and stabbing you, or you cutting yourself on the clamp.Additionally, after installation, there are no exposed sharp edges or excess strapping material that might later cut you or snag on clothes and other objects as you move or drag the hose. However, it is very difficult to get started, (even if heat is applied to the hose) especially on thin wall hoses. To eleviate this problem, the male end (inserted into the hose) needs to be an inch or so longer with a more pronounced taper at the end to allow for easier insertions.Still, a great product once installation is successful. Very secure and sturdy repair. Best of all, NO LEAKS!!!.

Don't fear the negative reviews
I was concerned after reading some negative reviews, but this looked well made so I decided to give it a shot. I double checked my hose diameter measurement (5/8 inch in my case, on my Costco hose with a damaged coupler) and made sure to order the correct size. It fit snugly but worked exactly as expected. I used a wrench and large channel lock to snug it up.No leaks, and it looks as good or better than a factory coupler. I'm rarely satisfied with Amazon purchases these days, but this one was excellent.

a booger to install
It is somewhat difficult to install, but once it is on it probably would be less likely to separate.

Hard to install but worth it
This Orbit male hose end is well made, solid brass, smooth threads and knurled end. I cut off the bad end on a hose and had a hard time sliding the female end over the hose. With some soapy water and a lot of effort I got it over the hose end. Same story with the male end, really hard to get the threads to engage the female part , but perseverance won. Tightened it with a wrench and it was done. It looks and works perfectly. Although it’s hard to install the effort is worth it. I would buy again.
