Question 2

what other type of liver is in this other than the chicken liver?

Accepted Answer

It only has the chicken. I believe the only other liver that is good for dogs is beef liver.

Question 3

How much carbohydrates does this dog food contain?

Accepted Answer

I did the math for you using the guarantee analysis. Given that the GA is a minimal & maximum amount using % this will not be exact but a close estimate using a formula specific for this purpose. This has approximately 6% carbs on a dry matter basis. The number is actually likely far less given there are no carbs, starches, grains, corn or vegetables in the ingredients. The ingredients are meat, vitamins, minerals & thickening agents. Thickners especially gums sometimes do contain carbs. This uses algae as a thickening agent & I don’t know if carrageenan has carbs. I don’t think it has many if any. That being said this is extremely low carb dog food with an inclusion of muscle meat, heart & liver. You will rarely find all three of those in a dog food. This food is fantastic at keeping healthy dogs healthy or can be used with diabetic dogs & eventually possibly get your dog into remission. Your dog will lose weight & gain muscle feeding this as long as you stay away from high carb kibble(almost all kibble has high carbs) Wysong Epigen dry for dogs AND doesn’t have carbs & it’s affordable here on Amazon. They have a starch free & one that has a little starch 20 to 25 dollars here on Amazon. This Purina will help your dog lose weight & gain muscle or in combination with diabetes. Just don’t feed those high carb kibble & remember treats have carbs so if you must use treats feed a piece of meat or low sodium hot dog….something that won’t cause insulin spike m. Feed like the carnivore they are. I know their technically omnivores but someone asking this question probably is concerned about obesity or diabetes, or just keeping their dog healthy. I’m a former RN now vet tech working for my brother a vet & Im married to a pet nutritionist. My brother recommends this food to all of his diabetics & obese or weight prone breeds. I’ve seen dogs eating this & only this or the very few low carb foods out there go into remission & get off insulin. I’ve seen dogs lose weight & gain muscle even without added exercise. Extra exercise is always good. My brother & wife say healthy dogs 10 14% carbs or less & diabetic dogs 5 to 8% carbs or less on dry matter basis. Most canned foods are in the 20’s & unfortunately most kibble is 30 to FIFTY % carbs which is insane. Look at those labels & if you see plants aka corn, grain, wheat, starch, potatoes, etc etc the food will have extra carbs. My dogs are healthy so they do get some carbs in their diet. I still manage to stay under 10. Good luck! 👍
