Just received this dock and I really like it. Unlike some reviews I have read this dock appears to be an original Twelve South Dock. All parts including the back post align perfectly. I even received the Twelve South appliqué another reviewer said was missing from their box. This was an Amazon-Twelve South purchase, not from a third party vendor. As other reviewers have stated you must use the smaller 1 millimeter Apple cable. My iPhone 6 plus was shipped with the 2 millimeter cable so I used the cable I was using for my iPod Touch. The unit assembles pretty easily. I tested the dock plugs with my case on my phone before inserting into the post. I use the Speigen Tough Armor Case and the number 2 plug fits perfectly. The case is stable enough. I do use my second hand to hold the base when removing the phone. I have had to do that with other docks too. Under normal circumstances the phone is secure on the dock. Small children with prying fingers could topple it.I would like to mention to Twelve South that if they used a magnetized Allen wrench it would make inserting those four screws much easier. I mean this is a premium dock so it would be nice to have a premium experience assembling it. I also had to work with it to keep the wire cover snap out piece on the underside bottom of the base from coming loose even though the cable was firmly seated in the grooves. I removed the little cellophane type "pull" piece and then is snapped and stayed in place.Over all I am very pleased with the premium look and the functionality of this dock. My back support works perfectly and fully supports the back of the phone. And the absolute best thing I like about this dock is it should work with future iPhones. The design is ingenious. The one thing I hate is spending a lot of money for an iPhone accessory only to have it rendered useless when Apple redesigns their phone. This dock is so adjustable that I believe that problem will be eliminated with future phones unless Apple has a very radical design change such as curving the phones. And the fact that this dock will work with a large variety of cases out there is the biggest plus of all.I decided to take a picture of the dock. Some previous reviews have stated that the back post is cut incorrectly rendering the back support useless. They obviously did not receive an actual "Twelve South" dock. As you can see my back support aligns perfectly. Again, I ordered this through Amazon Prime - Twelve South, not a third party vendor. I feel you are pretty safe by ordering the dock this way. And if something is wrong it is much easier returning to Amazon vs. a vendor.

Minimalist Design, Maximum Convenience - With a Noted Caveat
Purchased three ( 3 ) of these units ( two black and one silver ) to be used on night tables and with a desk top computer. Though they require assembly, it is a fairly simple task with the aid of the included instructions; video instructions are available online if one would rather watch than read. One excellent point made in the advertisement of this product is the necessary and exclusive use ONLY of Apple's 1 metre sync cord ( included with the iPhone or mini Ipad, as none are provided with this item ) as aftermarket cords will not fit this unit. This OEM cord is the only one that will properly fit this as designed, as other cords are not made to the same physical specifications - even the OEM 2 metre cord - whether or not they are MFi Certified. That said, it is also notable that an absolute minimum of parts of this unit are made of plastic, with the overwhelming percentage being made of aluminium for durability, strength, and mass. The base contains a rubber pad to both protect the surface it is sitting on and resist slippage. The iPhone or mini iPad ( it fits either/or ) slips on easily enough and is at an almost ideal angle for FaceTime activities. It is also great for late night viewing of the cell phone's face without touching anything in the dark or while half asleep for late night callers. Overall, this is a heavy duty, well made and well thought out unit, that easily justifies its purchase by the many conveniences it provides, both desk top and bedside, and rates a ' 10 ', or 5 complete stars, IMHO. I may very well have to purchase a forth unit, as my oldest son was eyeing one of my units for his desk. Oh well, so it goes!

This is a fine product...ignore the critics
Last week I ordered the Twelve South HiRise for iPhone and also another stand called the M2 made by Elago that is also for the iPhone; the two stands are very different, but my research told me that they would both accommodate my iPhone 6+.I don't have time to post a full review of the HiRise today, but I wanted to weigh in immediately on quality issues that I think there is a lot of confusion going around over.Because I've seen some poorly designed and constructed TwelveSouth products in the past, I was really worried that the HiRise would be low rent. Many reviewers here have been critical of this product and stated that it was flimsy, poorly made, really difficult to put together, unstable during usage, and just a lot of gripes about the product. In my opinion, those critical reviews could not be further from the truth...and this is coming from someone who fully expected that the Elago would be the superior stand. It's not--period. (Although it is good for a few things.)Regarding the criticisms of the TwelveSouth HiRise for iPhone, here are my thoughts on the different issues:1. "The HiRise is flimsy"--FALSE. This thing is heavy, solid, and you could probably dispatch a burglar with it should the need arise. I was flat-out blown away by the heft of it. VERY solid...right up there with the MacBook Pro (and Air) BookArcs in terms of build.2. "The HiRise is a poorly made/designed product"--FALSE. Yes, you have to put it together, OK, but the end result is elegant, practical, very functional, and the equipment that comes with the stand allows you to customize it to fit whatever device you need it for.3. "The HiRise is really hard to put together" and "TwelveSouth's directions are completely misleading"--FALSE ON BOTH ACCOUNTS. Hard to put together? Uh, what? Most of us here on Amazon know how to read, use computers, work hard enough to pay our rent and buy food, etc. You're telling me this thing is hard to put together? Uh, wat? Please. It's certainly easier than doing your weekend grocery shopping! Wow, four screws to twist--big deal. Twelve South gives you the correct Allen Wrench; they tell you where to put the screws in; the plastic parts snap into place. A four-year-old could put this thing together! On the other issue, the instructions being misleading...uh, no they're not. One reviewer here typed up a long treatise on the pitfalls of using TwelveSouth's instructions, supplementing his opinions with what he considered the correct dirt on Important Facts Missing on their instruction sheet. I printed out his review in advance, convinced I would be using his cheat sheet instead of the instructions that come with the product. To be clear: you'll figure it out. This is not chess, studying programming, being a DBA, composing a symphony, or repairing a Porsche Panamera. In a word, IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, PEOPLE!4. "The HiRise is unstable during usage"--FALSE. Well, yeah, maybe it is if your three-year-old is using it as a faux Ferrari gearshift, yeah, or if you're trying to store it in amongst your panoply of condiments on your refrigerator door--but that is NOT normal usage. In summary, HANDS DOWN, and especially All Around and All Things Considered, the HiRise will eat the Elago M2 for lunch ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.Now I am going to get back to enjoying my iPhone 6 Plus. Have a good day.p.s. If you enjoyed this review, stop in over on the Amazon Elago M2 product page in a few days, because I am going to flip my sentiments around and post the exact opposite of this review over there when I review the M2. Consider my forthcoming review of that product a free trip to an Anti-Matter storage facility on the other side of a Black Hole filled With Dark matter. Don't miss it.
