Great bait reel for the money!
I wanted a budget reel that I could use for fishing bait, occasionally. I had the original shimano bait runner as a kid so I knew how helpful a bait feeder system can be. This reel is so impressive at this price point and does exactly what it's advertised to do. I've hooker and caught several 10-20lb fish on 4000 model. As you can see in the photo, I am fishing mangroves so I need to stop these fish. This reel delivers on doing that when paired with a medium action rod. The Avenger does everything well, but nothing great. It's not the smoothest reel you'll pick up, but more than sufficient. You could probably throw artificials with it if you needed to do so. Although obviously that isn't a what this reel is made to do. If you're looking for an affordable bait reel, you can't go wrong here. I don't bait fish too much, but when I do I have a competent and dependable setup that is more than capable of handling anything I've hooked.

So far so good
Iโve only fish with it once so far but it sure is miles ahead in quality of the kastking sharky 111 bait runner. The sharky lasted 13 fish and sheared half the handle lugs off. The kastking rep said he owned three of them and they all did the same thing. The only thing I have noticed so far is the bail has to be in a certain position to engage the bait runner feature or it wonโt click all the way forward. The above photo is from my Kastking Sharky 111 3000 bait runner after 3 weeks and 13 fresh water drum ranging from three to fifteen pounds. It didnโt last long. I have faith in the Okuma Avenger. Bought the 40 size because it was $40. Iโm sure it will last for years. The Okuma bait runner drag clicker is so quiet that I canโt hear a fish run with it. Okuma needs to make a louder drag clicker. 2 year update: still going strong and looks like new! I would definitely recommend this reel to everyone!

Holds up to salt and big fish
I've had this about a year now and fish exclusively salt water. It looks and functions like new after a few hundred fish including a 59lb and 45lb fish. I had to max out the drag on both fish and it still functioned smoothly, eventually turning them around after nearly being spooled. Great reel for the money. I own almost 100 reels, some that cost ten to twenty times this one so I think I'm a qualified reviewer.

Great reel for an outstanding price!
I normally stick with Shimano in spinning reels, but these are really good - AND, b/c it's a "clicker" (bait runner) reel that is 1/3 the price of the Shimano bait runner reels, it's a terrific bargain. I have couple of other Okuma reels that I use for bass fishing and they are all good, solid reels. I've never had one malfunction - but the only difference between these and a comparable Shimano is that these are a bit more "heavy" in the turn of the handle and not quite as smooth as a Shimano reel. Of course, nothing else is - so it's hard to knock them for that. They are a bit heavier than the comparable class Shimano or Diawa reel, so I knock off one star for that - but then - they are alot cheaper too! Overall, you can't really go wrong with these reels. Oh, if you get this one - the bait runner model, just know that the clicker isn't as loud as some other reels when a fish takes the bait. If you have bad hearing, you might want to go with a Kastking or Pifiscun (sp?) reel b/c they have louder clickers.

Lots of options
I get the bait-feeder use for this reel but I had something else in mind. After trying a centerpin reel for float fishing I finally gave up. It was very cumbersome. So I thought I'd get a bait feeder and use the light drag for playing out line after the cast. It works great. Not only can I throw my rig a mile into just the seam I want but with the bail closed I can manage my line without fouling and stay in control. Very nicely made at a very good price.

Okuma
Okuma is the best - good for all kinds of fish - if you need to go for big fish try the Okuma surf 8000

Great investment at this level.
These little units are so well balanced and smooth operation, hauled in something oversized for this drag the other night and it handled the fight perfectly. Awesome little unit.

If you have the money buy it
Pros: Great reel for the price I've had it for about a month and it has caught tons of big carp. The baitrunner feature is loud and easy to engage. The reel is super smooth Cons: does not come with an extra spool and handle is feels big at first but you get used to it

Smooth, well made, but ugly.
Even though it looks ugly, but it is surprisingly smooth in everyway. Can tell it used quality parts, well made reel for this price point. But it is really painful to watch that grey plastic from 1970, and the body shape from my Grandma's fridge.
