Q: Can these sufficently power a pair of fairly low impedence but power hungy pair of planar headphones, ie the he-4xx?

i just got this for my new 4xx's and although it sounds amazing it's just not enough power to drive these head phones. I picked up an IFI hip dac for 40 dollars less and it's way better for these cans. It also has bass boost and a line in for a balanced 4.4mm cable which I've also invested in. The 4xx replacement pads from Dekoni also help with the bass. I hope this helps I wish I did a bit more research before I dropped the $189 on this. I mean it's great size and could be perfect for some headphones just not the Planars.

Thanks for the great question. We haven't tested the Dragonfly Red, but according to the manufacturer's website it can output up to 2.1 volts. The Spectra and Spectra X can output about 2 volts, so the output should be comparable. What headphone are you looking to use? Q: If I purchase a standard usb spectra x and an apple adaptor, is that possible for it compatible with Ipad Pro 2018?

Apple does sell an adapter with a USB port that is supposed to work with the iPad Pro, but it's not guaranteed to work with the Spectra.
