Culinaria Russia: Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan

This book presented so well multi nationality of the former USSR! Not only it has recipes, but describes the culture of the nationalities, their traditions, customs and foods. The recipes are well-written and I recognized quite a few. For my daughter, who was very young when we came to the US, this book became an introduction to the culture of Russia. The cover is a little misleading, because there is much more in the book than just Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The photographs are amazing as well. This book can be a favorite coffee table book and a great cooking guide.

This book is as much a history book as a cookbook . It goes back centuries to Genghis Khan and it's descendants .The traditions of the food and recipes are woven throughout . It has nice pictures of the people , their costumes , theirfood their animals and also landscapes and their occupations . Do to the coverage of so many subjects the scriptis very small and it helps to have to have a magnifying glass . I may make some soups and breads and desserts .

Like always I thoroughly enjoy the Culinaria series. This is my third one and on my way to buying more. Along with history of each region there is some great recipes. Also a perfect table book as well. I prefer the paper back over hard cover because using it is more functional.

Yes, it's a beautiful book with some good information about the region and its culture. But if you're looking for a cookbook, this really isn't the best. The recipes are hard to follow with ingredients that typical stores don't carry, and geared toward someone with exceptional cooking skills. The English is poorly edited, leaving meaning hard to decipher at times. As for the food in the book, it doesn't include the main staples you'd find on a Russian table - it dresses everything up in ways that the typical Russian cook wouldn't. If you want to learn to make traditional Russian cuisine, look for another book. If you want a conversation starter with great pictures, this is perfect.

Book showed up on time and in great condition. It's a fascinating read. Really easy to follow recipes. Buy it!

Fantastic book.I did not know much about food from this area,but now I do.Will certainly try to make some of these dishes!

This book is more a culture compandium than a culinary book. I was irritated to find Georgian, Armenian and Azerbaijan food recipes, while buying a Russian culinary book. Those countries have spices, that Russia doesn't and many western foodstores don't sell. Thus no use buying the book if you don't have the engredients

One of the best Russian Soviet cook books, plenty of photos too.
