VICKERS VISCOUNT FOR FSX, by Just Flight
I removed this from my flight sim PC as soon as I had operated this simulation. Trouble is, I might be old but I was there when the Viscount, and I, were young. This simulation is not entirely as per the real thing - the fuel trims don't DO anything for a start. Once in flight, the handling of this airplane feels sluggish and unlike the 'real thing' that I remember. The rendering of the virtual cockpit is too poor, making it hard to actually use the flightdeck (called 'cockpit' in those days) panels with any confidence. But, to be positive, one can FLY the simulation and one can LAND the simulation - but that's about all.On a REALLY positive note: there is a well-rendered - FREE - Viscount simulation available for FS9 by David Maltby. It doesn't have a VC but it does have SUPERB 2D panels (by Frazer McKay). If you forget to select engine anticing you'll lose an engine. The fuel trimmers actually alter the engine fuel flow and JPT, and therefore POWER, and the water/meth actually kicks in properly when you trim to 50%. And you can shut engines down in flight (and select feather, altho' the prop won't actually go there). And, did I say that it's FREE?

Oh dear - a bit of a disappointment
I had been looking forward to the release of this aircraft package for FlightsimX for some time. The Viscount has been poorly represented in Flightsims until David Maltby came along with his superb freeware models for FS2000 and FS2004. These are still available for free download from the normal Flightsim sites and are really superb representations of the Viscount 700 and 800 srs (as are David Maltby's executions of the Comet, VC10, BAC 1-11, Argosy, Herald and HS748 - the best of British classic airliners for FS2004).So when this package arrived from respected providers Just Flight, aimed at a gap in FlightsimX, I expected something a little special. Regretably I didn't get it. The interior of the flightdeck and cabins is not based on photorealistic images, and whilst pretty easy to get around, is considerably simplified in operation. The flying quality of the model feels good, though not having flown a real Viscount it is difficult to assess - it feels nice and heavy. In my opinion, the weak point is that the exterior model appears to be poorly rendered. Although very precise, there is a lot of detail that isn't there (look at the windows for example) and somehow the fuselage doesn't quite look right - whether that be the dihedral of the tailplane, the chord of the wing, I can't be sure. But I have seen enough Viscounts to know that something is not quite right. Rendition is below that of many freeware models and, oddly, even below a freeware model of the same aircraft that was distributed free on a cover disk of a well known flightsim magazine only a couple of months or so ago. I am also uncertain of the sound package - whilst this replicates the distinctive whine of the Rolls Royce Darts, I recall that once in flight this whine was barely audible on board. If you didn't know, or don't remember, the Viscount in service then you might well be pleased with this package. If you did know this lovely aircraft, then I think otherwise. I would be very interested in other views, just in case my recollection is not what it used to be!Which, all in all, doesn't add up to a great recommendation I'm afraid. Which is a pity and an opportunity lost. Maybe Just Flight will revisit and issue some update packs?

giudizio
