Q: Is this aircraft approved?

No; not in general seating on non heavy jets. From what i have found in general seating (frontier/allegiant are the two most recent m80? And 737) the carrier i had that was 12*13*18 rigid carrier had me returning the next day to fly the first time. Now my carrier is 10*13*17 and soft sided which is good because usually there is a little press down on the top to get it to slide beneath the seats. (Thats the 10 inch dimension btw) and foot room? Not under the seat. The airlines are always trying to minimize “extra” space to usable space so regardless soft sided is strongly suggested. [the flight attendant who was unfortunate enough to be working with me when dealing with the rigid carrier said this to me] also depending on plane trouble the airline may change to another model of plane which might change how much room is offered do you can't even positively purchase for your specific flight. (Well you can but, it may not be the same plane model) Sadly this is precisely what I was seeking but have to skip for something just a bit smaller. :(

Q: Does this product maintain its shape when pets are inside? If so, how is it prevented from collapsing on the pet?

I've had mine since Christmas. When I am not using it as a stroller, I use it as a carrier to bring my cats places. I usually fit my 10lb and 8lb both in it, it maintains shape and is very durable. I don't use the strap to carry the two of them though, only because I don't want to drop them (since I'm clumsy) it is a very sturdy carrier and I think I am going to invest in another soon.

Q: Is this airline certified? Meaning will it fit under the airline seat when traveling?

Depending on the airline regulations, it is too big for SouthWest and America airlines, please check with the specific airline you are flying with. Thank you.

Q: Is assembly required?

It comes not fully assembled but very easy to put together, the instruction manual is included in the package.
