Eastern Rebellion

This remains one of the finest albums of the 1970s. Fusion and Jazz Rock was dominating the music scene but this recording asserted that "real Jazz" played by acoustic instruments was the way to go and the music was still fresh and relevant.These four music masters play at their best.This album remains a fresh as tomorrow!

I was familiar with some of this music and I am very happy to hear it all.Good production quality on this particular CD.

Quality of the recording is of its time. It's not great BUT it's saved by the fantastic music & playing of Cedar & his bandI'd give 10 stars for the music

１９７５年オランダのタイムレスレーベルからリリースした、ピアノの名手シダー・ウオルトンの出世作とも言うべきリーダー作です。ジョージ。コールマン（ｔｓ）、サム・ジョーンズ（ｂ９、ビリー・ヒギンズ（ｄｓ）というカルテット構成で、リーダーのシダーが大変に好調なのがわかります。元々サイドメンとして（ジャズ・メッセンジャーズをはじめとして）、非常に有能かつフレキシブルなタイプのピアノは、決して達者だという印象はなかったのですが、このアルバムでは、ソロパートもとっても力強く弾いているのがわかります。＃１「ボリヴィア」は、ファンキーな曲想に、ジョージの淡々としたテナーが対照的に絡みます。＃２「ネイマ」では、一転ジョージのテナーがコルトレーンを彷彿とさせる、とまでは行かないまでも曲のイメージをよく理解したブローで聴き応えがあります。全体を通して聴くと、個人的には、数年後にリリースされた「イースタン・リベリオン２」のほうがボブ・バーグのテナーがスインギーな分印象に残りました。このシリーズは録音もよく、何よりライナーノーツがデータを元にしっかり書かれているので、この価格とも相まって、是非購入されることをお勧めします。
