Aquasure Harmony Series 32,000 Grains Whole House Water Softener with High Performance Automatic Digital Metered Control Head | Reduces Hardness and Improves Water Quality | for 1-2 bathrooms

I've been in water treatment for 15 years. Six years of that has been spent in industrial water treatment with RO systems up to 1600gpm, pretreatment by softeners the size of pick up trucks. Various chemical injections and multimedia filtration. Primarily in the oil, gas and power plant industries. This system is very small in comparison but the science and process is the same. My house hold water treatment system is as follows: city water (surface water)-meltblown cartridge-carbon block-carbon block- softener (Aquasure 32000 grain)- drinking water RO. Please let me elaborate on a few things to make sure you are setup for success. Install a chlorine removal system prior to the softener. This will extend the life of your resin. Any whole house carbon filter will be sufficient. Stay below 2ppm chlorine. Install a sediment catching filter (string wound or melt blown). This will likely help with differental pressure on softener between regenerations and increase overall water quality. Perform hardness test prior to purchase for proper sizing. Sizing a the softener too small for your use increasing regeneration frequency. Which will shorten the lifespan of the resin. However, the softener will still produce soft water throughout its lifespan. This is a 32000 grain softener. It has the potential to remove 32000 grains of hardness causing minerals (calcium, magnesium). My feed water is 5grains per gallon prior to my softener. If I am to utilize 90% of this resin capacity prior to a regen, I would be able to soften 5760 gallons of water before I should Regen. 10% is reserved to prevent hard water/resin exhaustion and to allow time for time/metered based regen to kick in at 2am. This leads me to probably the second most important thing to consider. The control head is programmed to regen at 1000 gallons. This is extremely conservative and likely based on a feed hardness around 25-30 gpg. The more you regen, the shorter lifespan of the resin. This could mean shorter lifespan of the softener if you do not have the resources to cost effectively replace the resin. Please, whether you have to send off a sample of your water to a lab or buy a cheap test kit, know your feed water hardness. I changed mine to 5760 gallons before a regen is triggered. I am going to regen 6 times less than programmed setpoint. Using less salt and increasing the lifespan span of my resin. Loading less salt. Buying less salt. Win win win. We have a family of four in my home. After reviewing our summer water usage, of 7.5-10 thousand gallons. You can see I am going to regen my resin 1.7 times month while supervising my softener differential pressure. At stock setpoint, I would regen 10 times at max usage. Big difference. Purchasing a test kit is best as this will allow you to monitor your feed hardness by season. Sometimes, water companies will change feed sources or change their treatment regimen or chemicals. Changing your water profile. There are many variables to consider. Onto this softener. It's a fleck style head with somewhat fleck style controls. Quality is decent for a residential unit. The digital controls are convoluted and will require frequent reference to the user manual. However, the overall set up and operation is relatively simple. Upon install, I had 0 problems. No leaks and a successful Regen. After a 10 minute flush, I had 1 ppm hardness at my faucet. Down from 85.5ppm (5 grains per gallon) before softener. Plan to provide shelter for this softener as it should not be installed exposed to sun and rain. Keep in mind that if you install it indoors, which I considered, and there is a catastrophic failure causing a leak, you will flood your home if draining for such an event isn't considered. I will update this review with relevant pros and cons after more usage. Overall, this system gets the job done. Update 10/18/23- My feed water hardness changed to 8gpg. Leading to hard water before regeneration. After adjusting my gallonage setpoint, I will be fine. Best practice is to leave it this way for the near future and reassess. We have gone through drought conditions, temperature changes and then a high amount of rain. This can have affects on the surface water source and the treatment plant operations. The only issues I have with this softener so far are: -lost totalizer (counted) gallons if I enter the menu. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer. -lost totalizer gallons during a power outage. This will lead to hard water as the count resets. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer. -clock isn't accurate. I had to abandon time/throughput based regeneration and move to throughpit (meter gallons) only. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer. If you are experiencing hard water issues before regeneration occurs, check your feed water hardness, meter regen setpoint and ensure your brine tank is running empty during regeneration step brine draw. Update 12/1/2024- I have been using this softener now for well over a year. Overall, I am satisfied with the product for the price. I always have soft water and I am continuing to check my feed water hardness periodically. As long as the control head continues to function correctly, I suspect I will get many years out of this softener and it's resin. Likely well beyond five years. Yesterday's feed water test (first in several months) was 7 grains per gallon. 32000 grains/7 grains=4,571 gallons. 4,571X.90=4,113 gallons for my metered regeneration setpoint. We do not want to utilize 100% of the capacity. So 90% is the desired number. Yesterday, I had soft water directly up until regeneration. Indicating the softener is performing as intended. For this softener, I recommend meter regeneration setting (throughput) only. The time based or meter/time based is not efficient or reliable. Until I have an issue with this softener, this will be my last update.

Works great. Not too bad to install. I pulled out the old unit, slide this one in. It comes with a "pre-filter" thing. You'll need to have some basic plumbing skills/ experience mark the flow direction on th water pipes in and out of the old unit before you disconnect it. Take a lot of photos of the old plumbing and routing of the pipes and felx hose/pipes before disconnecting anything. All different angles and close ups of fitting, etc. Makes it easier to get your hand around it during install. Follow the directions EXACTLY. takes about 2 to 3 hours to install, program, do the initial cycle, etc. I put 120# of salt in the brine tank and filled it to the top of salt level with water using a 5 gallon bucket. I tried to do the hardness formula to set cycle interval. My math said 3500 gallons (our water is moderately to highly hard). Ran it like that and water at the faucet was hard after about 2000 gallons. I ended up just setting it to cycle every 1000 gallons. Been running now for 6 months used less than 2 40# bags of salt. 2 adults in our home. Cycles about once every 3 to 4 days at 1000 gallon usage during that time. I like the unit. Pretty easy to program and adjust. I recommend it. I'd say it's a 3 out of 5 skill level to install where a 5 would be completely plumbing a bathroom sink, shower and toilet. 1 would be replacing a sink drain trap and a 2 would be changing out an existing bathroom faucet. You'll need some plumbing skills for sure, but it's doable. I hate working with plumbing. I always seem to have little tiny leaks at my threaded connections. It's frustrating, but usually just requires tightening or taking it back apart and putting more thread tape on the threads. Anyway, you get the idea. If you've done lite plumbing work before, you'll be fine. If this is your first plumbing project, get some help from a buddy with experience are higher a plumber. If your going to higher a plumber, talk to them before you order the unit. They may have their own brand that the favor. Some plumbers can be opinionated and may have some valid advice on purchasing certain brands. My plumber, for example, doesn't like AO Smith. He said he gets calls all the time from people who have units 3 years old with problems already. He said dont buy the AO Smith from Lowes (which was what I was going to do).

I recently installed the Aquasure Harmony Series 48,000 Grains Whole House Water Softener and I could not be happier with the results. The installation process was straightforward and much easier than I expected. The instructions were clear, the connections were simple, and everything felt well built and thoughtfully designed. If you are even somewhat comfortable with basic plumbing, this is very manageable. The difference in water quality was noticeable almost immediately. The water feels softer, soap lathers better, and there is no more mineral buildup on fixtures. Showers feel better on the skin, dishes come out cleaner, and even laundry seems softer. It has genuinely improved the overall water quality throughout the house. Overall, this system delivers exactly what it promises. It is reliable, effective, and a great investment for anyone dealing with hard water. I would absolutely recommend it.

First off, after the initial flush and regen, this 48K Grain whole home softener does it's job VERY WELL. Assembly was not bad considering, directions are laid out and with font that I could actually read. I would purchase this unit again, of course depending on the longevity I can get out of it... which would be destemmed hopefully way down the road. I would like to point out, everything in the 2 boxes completes your unit (even silicone grease) except a 1/2" ID poly tube; used for overflow protection in the brine tank. This is noted as optional in the directions, I believe I will purchase this tubing and install it as if the float inside the tube fails, I could have a salt slurry mess all over my laundry room floor. My two quirks or negatives are: 1. Programming is several pages long (in the instructions), it's laid out (with images) but I don't think it needs to be this complicated. Related to this problem is the display panel. It's 30 year old LCD technology, having blocked out letters or hard to intemperate lower case letters. The upper case are fine, still an old display that could meet an updated one and the Mfgrs cost would not be that significate. SEE MY IMAGE of the head, I made a "Cheat Sheet" to help me (years down the road?) when I may need to re-program, or, having to quickly click maybe the "Cancel Regen". I will try to keep the instruction manual in a poly bag taped to the wall by the tank. 2. While unit is regenerating, IT IS LOUD!. Sounds like Niagara Falls lol. I know from experience, some of this noise comes from the turbine device that counts the Gallons (or Liters) being used. I have an LED faucet that is noisy because of this, but not nearly to the extent of this unit, If your softener will go in the basement, then you may be fine. Unfortunately, out Laundry room is close to our master bedroom and the timed 2am (or I went with 4am) regen is an awakener.

I got 2 bids from local companies to install similar systems. I saved over $2k DIYing it with this system. It was a fairly easy install since I already had a sink to drain to, and my house was PEX. This also came with a whole-home filter, which was a nice surprise. Our water was very hard, and this system made a noticeable improvement immediately. I used two different brands of test strips, and both showed the same results (see picture). Installed with a bypass in case I need to service it. The system automatically flushes/rinses every 1000 gallons. At first, I thought I would want a "Smart" one that I could monitor with an app and get notifications. However, I do not miss that at all. It has a display that shows the status and the brine (salt tank) easy to check. So far, I have been using one bag of salt a month.

Almost 6 months review, the filter has worked great and seems to be using less salt than previous smaller filter. Just buy it and install yourself, you will not be disappointed. I will review again at 1 year. Thank you! Waited 30 days before placing this review. I was having so much trouble with dishes looking super dirty once they dried up. I also noticed the extra calcium on my sinks and bathrooms. I had a previous softner but tank cracked and tried 20x4.5 softner but was very small for the water we use. I must say I researched so many brands but due to my budget and my extensive reading of the reviews I purchased it. I am very pleased it was easy for me to install myself using SharkBite connectors. The filter requires a charcoal filter and this unit comes with one included. I already have bigger charcoal filter so kept my own. I also recommend adding extra prefilters if you’re having issues with colored water like we have. Water took a few days before it felt soft but since this unit has a bigger tank it is quite noticeable. I would buy again as we are very happy with this purchase.

Problems, problems, problems. We installed this during a house expansion/remodel last year to replace an older GE model that worked fine, but was getting old. Aquasure was easy to install and the instructions are fairly clear, though the control screen display and prompts are very clunky and not intuitive - you definitely have to keep the paper manual on hand to understand how to set it up and change settings. One side note: some reviews mentioned the clock resets during a power outage - I never had that issue - it always kept time regardless of the power going out (though we never had a long, multi-day power outage, just short ones). Once we got it up and running, it worked great for about 6 months. Then we noticed that hard water would show up at the tap when there was still a few hundred gallons left on the countdown meter (the meter that starts a recharge cycle). Over time, I lowered the recharge gallon amount, but each time, hard water would show up with a few hundred gallons left. I started by setting it at 3,150 gallons (based on the calculation in the manual - using a scientific water quality sample as my data input) - which worked for 6 months. Once the hard water problem showed up, and I started reducing the meter point by a few hundred gallons at time (3150, 2700, 2250, 2000...etc.) I ended up at 1,000 gallons and then started getting hard water with 200 gallons left to go (hard after 800 gallons went through the meter). I spent hours on the phone with customer support over days and weeks. They eventually shipped me a new resin tank. I installed that, cautiously set the meter to 2,500 gallons (manual still said 3,150 would be the right amount, but I was gunshy and wanted it to work this time so I set it more conservatively). After a few cycles of working fine, sure enough, on this last cycle, I got hard water with 400 gallons left to go - had to go back to manually cycling after I catch hard water at the tap. Now I'm back to watching the meter every few days, using test strips at the tap, trying to catch the hard water before it ruins my expensive water heater and faucets. This thing is taking up mental space in my head which is not what I want from an appliance that should be reliable. Their customer support was courteous and responsive. However, they were not able to answer some of my technical questions. Like why does the meter setpoint calculation have an additional factor based on # of people in the household, instead of a simple and pure # of gallons throughput? The rep also told me at one point that the system has to cycle once per week (then why have a gallon throughput calculation? And if there is a time component, what is that based on? Do beads degrade over time regardless of usage throughput?). My old GE system cycled once every few months and I never had any problems with nor any hard water. With this system in its degraded state, I am cycling once per week - which is eating a lot of salt (more $$$). While I appreciate that customer support spent time troubleshooting with me and even shipped a replacement tank for free, this system is inferior and I have had too many problems with it. I will be replacing it shortly, tired of spending time trying to monitor and manage the hard water issues.

Easy install, took me half a day with zero plumbing experience. Works great for softening my well water. Also removed the slight smell the water had. Have run about 3k gallons through it so far and no issues. Only thing to be cautious with is using metal fittings into the plastic threads for the pre filter

The proof of this unit will be in it’s longevity, but the unit itself came well packaged, the instructions are great, setting it ‘s programming was easy and the guarantee was well thought out to be set up easily.

Arrived on time, easy install with great instructions. Only took me 3.5 hours to run all the pex pipe and connections...works great.

It’s working good so far but hasn’t done its first backwash yet. It rinses or backwashes every so many litres of water used. It doesn’t do it every so many days so uses less salt. If we are away and no water used it doesn’t need to flush so doesn’t.

This thing is incredible, we had hard water plugging everything before installing this and now not even a water spot anywhere. The water tastes and smells amazing and my wife loves that her hair feels healthier and cleaner after she showers. Plus you use less soap because it suds up so much more with softened water.
