Metcal WS1 Solder Auto Sleep Workstand, Black

This stand is big, it's heavy, and it's wonderful! Comes with the brass mesh and a nice sponge. The magnet in the stand causes my handpiece/tip to cool off a bit when placed into the stand but the tip heats back up in just a few seconds, which is perfect. This is not a cheap stand but I expect it'll outlast both my Metcal power supply and the handpiece by a few decades.

At first glance it can seem a little crazy to spend on a soldering iron stand more than most people will spend on a soldering iron, but the auto-sleep feature *greatly* reduces tip damage due to irons being forgotten on. While it's not cheap, it works exactly as advertised and in my case will pay for itself in a year or two in savings on cartridge replacements. I like the little brass-wool holder for cleaning hard oxides off the tip too (when the damp sponge just doesn't cut it).

I like this base, its heavy and made well. Has place to store 5 extra tips.
