WEAR GLOVES SHARP EDGES!! FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!!!!
I like it. What I read on Amazon said lays perfectly FLAT, but it was not flat it was ROLLED UP be CAREFULL when you release the ROLL it's like Releasing a GIANT SPRING MY WIFE and I are happy. We had to use double back tape to hold the corners DOWN so NO ONE CAN TRIP. it's worth the MONEY make sure your floor is clean so the tape will hold.

Works for me.
I would describe this material as similar to the panels used in florescent light covers only slightly less brittle. If you were to fold it in half, it wouldn't snap, but it would leave a cloudy line at the seam.My mat came dented in 2 places from being folded too hard during shipping. The box it was shipped in was very flimsy, and denting could have been avoided if they shipped it in a stronger box or if it were shipped flat. Luckily the dents were in inconspicuous enough places that I can live with them.I cut a 10" × .5" notch in mine to accommodate a table leg. I used sturdy scissors but it was pretty difficult, I'm surprised they didn't break and even more surprised that I didn't cut myself because the material is very sharp. I just didn't have a better tool on hand.I actually put this on carpet, although it's intended for hard floors, since it was the only one offered in this material in the large size I needed. It is sturdy enough that it doesn't sink in enough for you to notice or leave marks, and the chair glides easily. If you're putting this on nice, hardwood flooring, I'd absolutely sand down the edges, there's a very slight lip formed on the underside of the edges from the cutting process that would scratch up your floors if there was any movement. It doesn't lie flat-flat, the corners life up very slightly (just a quarter inch), it doesn't cause problems with my set up, but it may for others.Overall very happy with this purchase.

Would work great on hardwoods other than pine
I thought this product would suffice for pine flooring but it does not.My pine floor is new, and I have a 5-wheeled office chair which, with my weight (175 lbs), will put grooves in the floor when I wheel around. I purchased this product to stop that. The material is about 1/8 inches thick. I thought it would be a little thicker. After putting it on the floor in a new area of the office, sitting in the chair, and simply moving around, I lifted the mat up and saw it definitely lessened the grooving, but still saw impressions. I speculate after a few months my floor would have deep grooves.I'm sure this would be fine for hardwoods as it is only as strong as the floor its on. Given its thickness, it does not have the strength to hold up on its own. Polycarbonate is made to stretch some, that's what gives it unique strength characteristic. For softer wood, a material like plexiglass is probably preferred since it doesn't stretch like polyC.I love the look of it on the floor. It allows the wood to show through with minimal distortion and intrusiveness. The smooth side is supposed to lie on the floor, allowing interaction with the surface creating a static bond. The top is rough to engage the wheels. If you put the smooth side down, the sharp edge will not be felt. I believe some people are putting the smooth side up which puts the sharp edge on top allowing it to be felt if you hit it, and thus risk getting cut.I'm debating whether or not to send it back because for my floor, it doesn't provide the protection I require. However for harder woods, this should would out perfectly.

Great item, but check it upon arrival for flaws.
I bought several of these mats and while they are pretty great overall, I did have a problem with one of them. Unfortunately, I didn't unbox the last one until well after I could return it for a refund or exchange - the office wasn't finished until recently and I didn't need it right away. The size I ordered, 60" x 48" was packed rolled up in a big box, which makes sense, I suppose (I ordered one size smaller previously and it came shipped flat), but made it unwieldy and hard to store until I needed each one. When I pulled the last one out of the box to install into my newly refurbished office, I could see where the product had been buckled in two places, (probably from trying to wrestle that big thing into the box) much like a photo gets buckled if you try and hold it with one hand, but I thought 'no big deal, it's going on the floor'. The first time I rolled over that buckle with my chair, it crushed the polycarbonate and will soon be a hole. I covered it with packing tape for now, but this one mat is something I wasted over 70 bucks on because I didn't inspect as soon as I got it. I am disappointed. The other mats are just fine and work great on hardwood floors.

Slips & Scratches Floor
We recently put in dark hand scraped hardwood floors in our office so I was worried about our office chair rolling around. I came across this mat and from the reviews it seems pretty good... it didn't seem like there was many options to choose from anyway after doing so much research. Some of the reviews stated that it slipped around and one stated that it scratched the floors so I was a bit nervous but had no other options so I ordered it. I have the mat right side down and this does slip around constantly. The edges were not that sharp but I did have to file down a few edges around the border because they were not smooth and it made me nervous. After using the mat for a few weeks, I lifted it up the other day in the sun light and see whit scratches on my floor. They are light now but I would hate to see what the floor looks like after a year. The scratched are not even from the edges, they are more in the middle where the mat would lay. Against my will, my husband decided to use those picture hanging strips for walls, that claim to not damage the wall, under the mat at the top two edges, to keep it from moving. I am worried what those sticky stripes are going to do to the floor but I guess it's better than what the mat can do after a long period of time. We plan to take another look in a month to see if the scratches have stopped. The only option is to put the sticky tape at the two corners under the desk or else you would be cutting your foot if it was lifted in the back. All in all, I would not recommend this product unless you have light floors or laminate floors that are tough.

Sturdy and useful mat
The mat is sturdy and acts as a perfect protection on top of rug carpet. Also moving around on the chair is easy on top of this mat. Very nice product!

Great product, works perfectly.
I have no issues with this mat. Its a hard plastic, unlike my previous mat which was also for hard floors but was rubbery. Because this one is hard, it doesn't migrate around like my previous mat. I love the large size, it fits my work area perfectly and I don't roll of the edge. After about two weeks it has a slight downward curl on the one end, but its only up 1 or 2mm, so no issues. My other mat didn't lay flat either after 11 months. I'm going to park my chair on the end at night and see if it fully flattens. I could also rotate the mat 180 degrees so the curl is under my desk and it would be completely unnoticed. Long story short, I would recommend and would purchase again. My only regret is not buying this in the first place.

Perfect premium mat for protecting my office hardwood floor.
My Cleartex Ultimat Chair Mat was shipped flat, so installation was simply placing it on my office hardwood floor with the clear, flat side down. I also order the bigger size 48" x 60" and I'm glad I did so I can move around a bit more on my chair. Quality is excellent for this premium clear polycarbonate mat, although it's not clear like glass. I'm pleased with this purchase, and expect this mat will last for a long time. Thanks.

This will spring apart when ties cut...as specified on label
Who would have thought that a hard floor mat would require so much research? And I do appreciate ALL the information Floortex gave when helping with the decision of a high traffic, hard floor mat.Item sprung open ( as per warning ) when last tie was cut and sits mostly flat.As well, item was delivered the very next day! Inside of a twenty-four hour turnaround!
