Tastes amazing with easy step-by-step instructions
Five stars for convenience and taste. The flavor is great and authentic, and while it says spicy, the heat level is not bad and shouldn't scare anyone away. It is so simple to make using the clear instructions on the back of the package. It takes all the guesswork out of stir-frying!

Delicious sauce for the best Chinese-style eggplant, delivered to your door!
We first found this product on an Asian-foods specialty site, but when they were sold out, we discovered we could get it from Amazon for about the same price if we bought in bulk. And we like this stuff enough to buy it in bulk! It is somewhat spicy, but not overwhelmingly so, and has a nicely balanced sweet-and-sour flavor that goes great with eggplant. I should point out that we've only made it with Japanese / Chinese type eggplant, which is about as long but much skinnier than 'regular' eggplant, about the size of an English cucumber, and a brighter purple rather than nearly black; it's also less bitter than 'regular' eggplant. As the instructions say, you want about 12 oz of eggplant, which is roughly two eggplants if you're able to source the Chinese type. (We use a postal scale to weigh our eggplants so we get as close to 12 oz as possible, but this isn't strictly necessary.) We cut the eggplant in diagonal slices about finger-thickness, then cut those in half to make two stretched-looking half-moons from each slice. From there, we depart from the package instructions. They say to either deep-fry or boil the eggplant, but we just saute ours in neutral oil -- this also has the advantage of making this a one-pot dish. They say to add ground meat, but we don't do that either, though you could. Instead, once the eggplant is all softened and translucent, we add the sauce and stir, then let it cook together just long enough to heat the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, sometimes we add a splash or two of rice vinegar to loosen it up, but that's optional. Then we serve it over rice. Twelve oz eggplant and one packet sauce only makes enough for two people, but it shouldn't be hard to scale the proportions up, provided you have a big enough pan. Enjoy!

Very poor-tasting sauce
This tastes nothing like the real dish, the sauce is overly sweet and has a very unnatural flavor. It is also too salty and there is no heat from the spice. I cannot recommend this unless you have no idea what this sauce is supposed to taste like.

Very tasty sauce!
It makes a yummy dish with my homegrown steamed Japanese eggplants and optional ground meat (using organic lean turkey). You cooked the meat with onions, mixed the steamed, chopped eggplants and add this sauce. Eat with rice or anything of your choice (I use Quinoa)

Short expiration date
Short expiration date. Had to give away most of the packs because of this.

Received this order faster than expected
This sauce is a very nice product. Since the order was for 12 units, I was happy to see that the product expiration dates are almost one year from now. Thanks!

Easy and quick fakeaway
Lee Kum Kee is a very popular brand especially in Chinese condiments. Sometimes Asian market got a huge selection of sauce allowing us several brands to choose from to get just 1 sauce, but as it look familiar and got a huge selection of premixed sauce from them, I tend to choose one from Lee Kum Kee. Yes itโs easy because we just need to cook veggies, but even though following their direction of how much ingredients are suggested, we needed double or triple amount of rice or a gallon of water to truly enjoy it. I checked the direction and made sure I was cooking the suggested amount of veggies with the sauce, but still their flavor was super strong. Pro: Easy and quick to cook. Reasonable price. Con: The taste was too intense.
