Purina Fancy Feast Classic Pate Poultry & Beef Wet Cat Food, 3 oz, 24-Pack

Pretty good wet food for my cats. They all love it so much and all eat it pretty well. I have had no issues with this food so far. No vomiting nor diarrhea. The ingredients and nutrition aren't the best, but it's pretty decent for the price. It's very affordable especially if you have multiple cats. The food looks fine, and is pretty soft. There is also so many different flavors and combinations, which is nice so your cat won't get bored so easily.

The fact that you're reading a cat food review tells me you like to do your research. So then you probably know that cats are obligate carnivores, which means they only eat meat. They hunt hundreds of species of bugs and birds and small rodents and mammals. So if you want to save money on vet bills, you gotta feed your cat wet food. Just look at the ingredient list, fancy feast is the cheapest wet food with protein as the main ingredient. Don't bother with grains and starches. I've been feeding my cat fancy feast for his entire life, everyone always comments on how soft and healthy his coat is. For a while i was going crazy and buying frozen raw food, but I worried about bacteria and contamination. I looked into making food (obligate carnivores, just give them some meat, right?) wrong. Remember when I mentioned they hunt like 237 species? They eat mostly meat, but they also need crazy stuff like taurine and other weird things cats get from eating bugs and spiders and birds I guess. Anyway it's hard to get the balance right and you could very easily make your cat sick if you're not extremely careful. My cat has tried all the meat seafood cans and he seems to love chicken and turkey the best. If you can afford to go with the organic free range all singing all dancing stuff, you probably wouldn't even bother reading this. But if like me, you love your cat and are also on a budget: go with the ingredient list, go with the price per can. Do the math: it's always been fancy feast.

I believe that grains are not good for cats and so decided to eliminate dry food from my cat's diet. In reading the labels of canned cat foods I noticed that most have wheat gluten in them, a substance that is not only from grain but a major allergen for many people and pets. It's not a healthy or wholesome substance. After a bit of research I found that with Fancy Feast, if you stick to the "classic" or original recipes (generally of a pate consistency) there is no wheat gluten. Any recipe that has an extra descriptive such as grilled, flaked, shredded, etc. has the gluten so I'm thinking it must be the gravy that requires wheat gluten. Anyway, my cat has two issues - she is overweight and has a tendency for diarrhea. I'm on a mission now to figure out how to deal with both. I think seafood is the main cause of her diarrhea episodes and I'm betting grains are contributing to her weight problem. Mainly I'm letting people know by writing this review that this particular collection of Fancy Feast does not have wheat gluten in it. And even though it does have animal by-products at least they are not right up at the top of the list of ingredients. I've gone through trying all the expensive specialty foods only to see them summarily rejected one after another and I know my cat likes Fancy Feast so I feel like we have found a happy medium. Update - since writing this review I have figured out that wheat gluten was causing my cat's messy poops and obesity and seafood was causing the skin eruptions. I've experimented enough to know this for certain. So she's eating nothing but chicken, even her treats are freeze dried chicken breast. the three foods she gets are the Wellness chicken and turkey in pouches, Weruva shredded chicken breast, and Natural Balance chicken and chicken liver. None have by-products, gluten, or seafood, and none of them smell bad. My cat is as clean as it gets "back there" and she's trim and silky. I know she has got to be enjoying her greatly improved condition even more than I am.

Rated 5 stars "I love it" with little reservation. These particular three flavors are low in carbohydrates. The chicken at 3%, turkey at 2% and beef at 3% (see pic 1, a chart). Having a diabetic cat and testing her insulin levels twice daily has me extremely concerned over carbs in cat foods and seeing the impact that high carbs can have. Having a diabetic cat, became a bit biased on foods. Trying to get her regulated has been complicated, too high of carbs greatly increases her insulin dose and zero carbs has had its complications. Basically, while no expert by any means, have formed the opinion that foods less than 15% carbs are better for my healthy cat and insuring her long term health, 10% or lower even better. In hopes of never having another diabetic pet, its an entirely new level of commitment. Enclosed a photo of what my day is like to chart, test, treat, and hope to maintain my diabetic cats health. Basically, I currently feed my cats as much wet as wanted of Purina Fancy Feast in these lower carb choices. They like it. For dry between meals, they get EVO. It is low in carbs compared to most dry cat foods (12% max) and satisfies their between meal grazing habit. It is the lowest carb quality dry that I can get that they will eat. My healthy cat is lean and muscular, and my diabetic cat is closet to regulated to date primarily feeding this food, diet. Have enclosed a photo (3) of a small amount of canned cat foods I have tried (cases), some quite expensive, non for various reasons have helped to achieve my diabetic cats nutritional needs as well as Fancy Feast in these particular formulas. Should mention, there is a chart online that has helped me a great deal to determine the nutritional composition of cat foods. Search "cat food nutritional composition chart" if interested and it should come up. Lots of information. It is the source I used to list the carbs in this review. I got this for my 5-month-old kitten because he already loved this food, and it’s honestly his favorite. He literally runs as soon as he hears me open the can and even asks for it with meowing. I give one can in the morning and also add dry kitten food during the day. I noticed his fur looks shinier, he’s active, and seems satisfied after eating. The only downside is the cans are quite small. For picky kittens, this has been a very reliable option in our experience)
