XCV11Z 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 2 Gallon HEPA Filter Portable Wet/Dry Dust Extractor/Vacuum, Tool Only

I bought this Makita XCV11 vacuum as a compliment to my dust collector and wet/dry vac. Both the dust collector and wet/dry vac are dedicated to stationary tools so I needed a way of keeping dust from hand held tools such as my router, track saw, and sander under control. While I primarily use the XCV11 in my work shop, I have also used the XCV11 for auto detailing, general home vacuuming, and for water. I was able connect the XCV11 vacuum hose to the tools by means of various adapters. For example, my Makita track saw fitted the vacuum hose with a cheap rubber 1 1/4" to 1 1/4" Fernco coupler from the big box store and my random orbit sander required a custom adapter found here on Amazon. However, with the tools connected directly to the XCV11 expandable hose, the tool would pull the vac along as I moved. For a while, I simply accepted this shortcoming until I was sanding a dresser and realized that the job would have been much easier if I had a normal wet/dry vac hose extension. I found an old wet/dry vac hose lying around and with some Fernco couplers and a vac adapter that I already had, I was able to attach my old hose to the XCV11 hose. There is some loss of suction due to the extended hose, but even on low power, the XCV11 is still effective in capturing the dust produced by my tools. In the case with my sander, it clears dust which would otherwise clog up the sanding discs. I find the Makita XCV11 to be capable of doing all the jobs that I have asked of it. Thus, it lives up to my expectations. Although I have other manufacturer's batteries and those brands have similar vacs at a lower price point, I chose the Makita over the competition mainly because of the brushless motor which I see as a huge advantage which is worth the higher cost.

I love this little Makita vacuum. It is small, takes a standard Makita 18v battery, and has two attachments (a broad wand hose attachment and a narrow hose attachment). It is lightweight and compact. It is about the size of two show boxes stacked on top of one another. I give it 5 starts because it does exactly what I want. Which is to pick up debris and go wherever I want it. No, you're not going to vacuum an entire room with this. But you're not looking for that if you are thinking of this tool. I have a bigger shop vac (Fein vacuum) and while I love that vacuum I wanted something that could go anywhere and cordless and not have to fuss. Battery life is good. I haven't yet run it nonstop to point of battery dying. Which is good in that it should tell you in an average day's use for me, a home DIY guy, that I put a fresh battery in it and it hasn't run out yet. And yes I've done some decent use with it. Even if battery did run out I suspect if you're looking at this vacuum it is because you already have other Makita 18v tools. Meaning you likely already have several batteries. Filtration is excellent. It has a sock over a foam cover over a pleated canister filter. It is HEPA rated and while I can't verify that, it seems to be accurate. Again, I'm a DIY guy...how to verify HEPA? Cleaning it is easy, undo the two latches (one each side) and lift top off and empty bottom. No bags. Cleaning the filter is like any shop vac, meaning easy if dusty. I don't know the volume but would guess near a gallon? I've never filled it so that's a good thing. Complaints? Only two and nothing big, so not knocking a star off. One, the hose could be a bit longer. I don't know exactly how long it is but seems about 30". Of course, by keeping it that small it stores on the body of the vacuum very well. And as light and small as the body is the hose length isn't really an issue since you just the body closer. Second, the handle collapses. I read about this another review and didn't think much of it...but it happens. So the handle swings up, pivots/hinged. It has a detent but doesn't lock. The issue is once in a while the handle will collapse and pinch you hand between the handle and the body. Nothing huge, but does hurt for a few seconds. Nothing so bad as to take a star off, but it is real. Anyway, if you have a need for this, or think you do...get it.

I'm a laborer for a Remodeling company. I create all kinds of dust and debris while I'm working. Like piles and piles of sawdust, drywall dust, Metal dust, dirt, insulation scraps, etc. I'm constantly borrowing my boss's Milwaukee portable vac so I wanted my own. I've had this one for about a week and it's doing a great job. I cut a drop hole for a stainless steel sink and the sawdust went everywhere. The wide cone attachment got the whole cab clean in seconds. I had to demo some toilets and this vacuum sucked up all the residual water so I didn't get soaked. Multitool on some baseboard to fit a vent cover, no issue. I like that the hose just neatly sits on the front. I like that there's a low setting in case I've only got a battery with 2-1 bars left. I like the fold out handle that's just another example of how Makita pays so much more attention to ergonomics in tandem with efficient design. I'd say it's not as powerful as the Milwaukee in terms of raw suction power but I don't feel like it's far off. Update: I've had this vacuum for about half a year now and I gotta say, the weak suction has left me a little disappointed. Just like the Milwaukee portable vacuum, this Makita is pretty expensive for what it is so to have weak suction when you're shelling out over $200 is a kick in the shins. The battery life on it is awful too. This thing will drink down a 4ah battery in like 10 minutes. I'm well aware portable vacs are power hogs in general but this thing is up there. It's still good, I still like it honestly. I like the design, the size, the weight and it does do the job. It will suck up piles of sawdust. It will clean out a bucket of water without issue. It just doesn't have the same strength and juice life as other options.

Love this vacuum as it’s small, portable and does the job. Most of work has been in the attic with some in a car. Suction is enough for those awkward places and the filter is easy to clear during jobs Value for money as purchased a resale item (with no batteries)

This is my portable vac for my home and cars and I'm very pleased with it's strong suction, large debris bin and excellent build quality in small light weight package. It also does good dust extraction when connected to my other tools. Unfortunately Makita doesn't make all dust ports the same size so this will fit some (like Makita Planer & Router with the large dust port nozzle size) and not others (like Makita Jigsaw & Orbital sander with the small dust port nozzle/attachment size). In those cases I 3D printed an adapter that attaches this vac to them perfectly. I did the same for my Dewalt bench miter saw. The vac also has connecters for a typical duffle bag shoulder strap which is very handy. A shoulder strap is great hands free operation: portable dust extraction and cleaning around the house. I've never timed batt life but I feel like I'm getting a 30 - 40 runtime on the high setting with a 6Ah battery. Expect a much longer runtime on the low setting - which has decent suction too. I recommend a 6Ah battery. You don't get strong suction like this for free - it sucks batt juice. Also I bought a generic long nose attachment to spare my back when dusting my baseboards, staircases, walls, etc. I had to 3D print an adapter in order to attach it. With all of that said this is a very versatile tool and you can fill in any gaps to fit your needs.

I'm an over the road trucker who shares his cab with two wonderful cats. Alas, they both enjoy flinging kitty litter as far and wide as they possibly can. My old Dyson handheld, you know the ones that never lose suction, would clog up within a few minutes of cleaning up the daily mess, so I sprung for this one. I am so glad I did. It's no jet engine or whatever, and it'll never be quite as powerful as a corded Shop Vac, but for a light and portable vacuum that can handle wet and dry, and doesn't blow litter dust (100% dust free, my bleep) all over the place, it's quite wonderful indeed. I can't speak for other accessories but I did find that the 1-1/2" accessory pack I picked up at Home Depot fits this hose just fine. I use the brush to clean up the inevitable fur that gets on my dashboard. Maybe they slightly resized things, I don't know. It works for me. I often grab it and attack my car when I'm heading home for a few days too; if you detail cars or just like yours really clean this is a great choice. I've had mine for five months now and I would definitely do it again. If it ever dies it'll be replaced with an identical model.

Initially I felt like it didn’t have enough suction to replace my Ridgid shop vac, which true enough it does not. I use the Ridgid for cleaning up messes on the floor, but do not always use it because dealing with an extension cord, several feet of hose, long attachments, emptying the bag, etc… made it something I’d sigh about before bringing it out. With this little guy, I have no issues with using it for all the tasks that didn’t seem worth the work of the full size before. As a result, my DIY jobs are a lot less messy and clean up is faster. I connected it to a Makita sander and it sucked up probably 85% of the dust and made the expense of being part of the Makita universe more worthwhile to me. I do wish it had a brush attachment, but I can buy others. I wish it would connect to Makita tools without an adapter, a few hundred dollars in tools and batteries but another few dollars to connect them is kind of ridiculous (thankfully I 3d printed adapters). I love that it’s bagless and HEPA filtered, it seems to be easier to empty than the Ridgid - the pre-filter is a nice touch. It has great battery life, the external indicator probably should have 4 bars instead of 3 but it is better than checking the battery. It’s not a replacement for a full size vacuum, but it has a lot of utility because of its size and portability and just enough power to fulfill those jobs.

I really wanted to love this vacuum and was really looking forward to owning it since I'm on the Makita platform... but it's terrible... especially for the cost! I don't understand how it has so many good reviews here on Amazon and on Youtube, but this thing doesn't have good suction at all on the low setting. If Makita designed this to run on low, you'd think it would at least be able to keep up with the handheld vacuum XLC02. The XLCO2 has a rating of 45 CFM, while this vacuum is rated at 47 CFM (low setting). In practical use, the ratings don't seem to make any difference as the handheld keeps up with this vacuum, no problem. It might be because the handheld has a 1.25" orifice vs the 1.5" of this vacuum. That said, if you plan to use this vacuum on low, then you may as well just use the handheld... it's 2.3-times cheaper, it's quieter, and runs much longer on batteries. I even removed all filters inside this vacuum and it didn't appear to help much. Even taping over the 2 holes on the crevice tool didn't help. I bought this knowing full well that the 1.5" inside diameter hose doesn't fit any of Makita's own tools (bad design Makita!), and I accepted that and had planned to buy adapters as needed. BUT, it also means you have to buy an extension hose as the onboard hose, while it does stretch, is unusable when using any kind of tool that you'd need to move... such as a router, circular saw, etc. Why Makita went with a 1.5" diameter hose is beyond me when most of the tools are 1.25". Did they want to just sell adapters??? Money making scheme??? Poor judgement??? This vacuum is a huge disappointment. Bottom line, it sucks for suction on low. Of course you can run it on high, but then, it'll suck for battery life. Not a good trade off! Noise. It's louder than I'd hoped but then I'm very sensitive to loud noises, so while you can't really go by my opinion on this, hopefully you don't expect it to be super quiet. Loud to me is on low... on high it's even louder! Overall, I give this vacuum 1 star for operation and design. For build quality, it's 5 stars. The build is very nice, clean, and sturdy, and exactly what you'd expect from Makita... but that's the only good thing I can say about it. Not recommended! Returned.

This should be 36 Volt, not 18. It's fine, but not very powerful at all. I use it for small cleanups, dust etc. I have a hard time understanding why this exists and they didnt make it 36volt, would be much more useable.
