Gallium Liquid Metal, 99.99% Pure Gallium Metal, 100 Grams, DIY Science Kit

I had a lot of fun with this gallium! I melted it in hot water, and then found that I had trouble freezing it again, but the gallium came with a slip of paper that instructs you on how to freeze it again. Apparently, gallium super cools, and needs to touch a small piece of solid gallium (which has a crystalline structure). As soon as you do so, all or most of the gallium will quickly crystallize around it. Interesting! I notice the gallium rubs off onto your skin as a dark-grey coating. I believe this is gallium oxide, which forms around the metal as a protective coating. Research shows elemental gallium is food-safe, so it shouldn't be an issue, although you may wish to cover your table with paper while you mess with it. There was an issue with my order (which I won't go into detail here) so I contacted the seller/manufacturer of this product, and he immediately resolved my issue. He truly went above and beyond.

Arrived intact. No issues as other reviewers have mentioned. Gift for my 13 year old son. So much fun! The syringes are essential to experiencing the magic of gallium. It doesn’t actually melt in you hands, you need warm water to liquify - but it is magical and fascinating. Leaves a graphite like residue behind on hands but washes off easily with soap and water. I recommend watching a few videos to learn how to experience. Highly recommend for curious kids interested in the magic of science!

My kids loved this “experiment” and to be able to see it change forms, but I never could have imagined how much clean up it entailed. The gray film that is left behind is no joke, getting on their hands and everything is touches. If I had realized this before I would have been much more careful to make sure we didn’t let it touch countertops. It washes off no problem, but the tiniest amount will continue to leave gray film, then when it’s on hands, it transfers to every surface they touch- faces, hair, clothes, WALLS, counters etc. My kids have a lot of fun, but I am really strict now with where we play with it and making sure they wash their hands immediately (I turn on water for them and squirt soap for them so they don’t touch anything!). Otherwise you end up cleaning the gray film up for days and couldn’t figure out why it kept coming back- dirty surfaces.

Takes a while to melt under hot water, but it does eventually. It makes a mess. Sticks to surfaces, so not what you might expect there. Overall, it's as the picture describes. Also came with a nice little pamphlet, explaining aluminum gallium and science experiments you can try with it. 5/5 since its as described and pricing is in the ballpark for what's reasonable.

Before I was really interested in chemistry and I wanted to do an experiments with something unusual. This is really nice, it actually melts in the hand if I hold it long, so I decided to buy this. Quality was very good, and what I have seen a lot of the negative reviews complain about is that the vial can open and it might spill, but I have seen they updated the vial and it instead opens with a twist, so I also have no concerns here. Overall, really good and I would recommend it.

I like the product. Works as gallium should, but one of the tubes somehow opened during shipping and is all over everything in the bag. I've gotten some of it back, but lossed a bit. It's ruined the pamphlet about gallium that was included. I've placed the bag in the refrigerator. I'm hoping to get some more out, but it's a pain so far. About gallium. The other reviews are correct when speaking of it staining your hands. It comes right off with soap and water though. This can't be helped. It's just how gallium is. I bought another mold to make coins and the first one came out pretty good. Handling it though does leave that gray stain. Gallium takes a while to liquify and solidify again, so be patient if you think there's something wrong with it. Again, that's just the properties of gallium. So, three stars for the problem that occurred. But five stars for the gallium.
