Pacific Breeze Sand & Surf Beach Shelter (Pacific Breeze Sand & Surf Beach Shelter with Moveable Sides)

I did a LOT of research on sun shelters before deciding on this one. This one has some great features that most others don't have. Let's start with the basics: 1. It's big (almost 8' side to side and front to back, and almost 5' tall). You can fit a lot of stuff in there, and I've included pictures to show that. I was actually worried that it might be TOO big when I ordered it, but it's just the right size. Also quite small and lightweight when packed up in the carry bag. A little over 3' long and about 9lbs. Probably about as heavy as two camping chairs. 2. It's easy to set up and take apart. Read the directions the first time (and do it at least once before you go to the beach), especially for the take-down. I read some reviews that it was hard to fit it back in the carry bag, but if you fold it back up the right way, it fits easily. I can set it up and take it down by myself in a minute or two. 3. Good shade coverage. So here's one of the features I love. The back wall is fixed, but the side panel can be moved to any of the other 3 sides, or not used at all. So if you want more breeze and a better view, don't put it up. If the sun is coming from the left, put it up on the left side, and as the sun moves throughout the day, you can move the panel to one of the other sides to maximize shade. Very cool. It only comes with one side panel but I read that the manufacturer is eventually going to sell additional panels as an add-on, which I will definitely buy. It would be nice to have the option to close up all 4 sides if you need some privacy to change on the beach. There's some other nice features that are standard in most of the sun shelters on the market. Sand bags to hold it in place on the beach (8 total), stakes to hold it down if you're on grass or dirt (also 8). There's 2 mesh pockets inside to keep your phone or whatever in. It's apparently got the UPF 50+ rating for sun protection. But my favorite feature of this tent that most others (any others?) don't have is the zip up floor. Genius! I can keep the floor down if my little ones want to lay down for a nap, or zip it back to give them access to play in the sand under the shelter. Love it. I think this shelter is going to get a lot of use, not just at the beach. That's another reason I like this one. The open sides make it very suitable for use at the park, on sidelines of sporting events, or just in the back yard on a sunny day. I think the typical half-tent style shelters would be a little less versatile, and I'm all about getting my money's worth, so the more I can use it the better! So far I'm really happy with my purchase. I think all my research really paid off because this tent is exactly what I was looking for. If you have little kids, this is a must-have. I haven't used it at the beach yet so I can't speak to how it holds up in the wind, but I'm going next week so I'll update this review then.

We have been buying and testing tents for the beach and by far this is one of the best one we've bought. It is very easy to assemble and disassemble. It took us less than 5 five minutes to assemble. The flooring can be unzipped and rolled for children to play on the sand or you can also put a chair so you won't get direct sunlight. When the flooring is zipped to lay flat, you can have a picnic or use it as nap area for adult/children. It's a great size. 2-3 sides are open so air can come in and out and for sunlight shading since you can roll up one of the sides. The structure of the tent is very durable. We love our new tent. pacific breeze also sells lounge chairs which is perfect to go along with this tent. It is foldable and easy to carry. Very comfortable and the back is adjustable. We also have it and we love it!

Very easy to setup and take down. Especially like the zip out floor for beach chair use. Gave it a 4 out of 5 stars because of the worthless ‘single use’ bag provided (more on the bag below) and the shelter is not very sturdy in a stiff breeze. If you have any breeze at all you must properly stake this shelter it at the corners and deploy all 4 guy lines with real stakes or the shelter will tend to bow in, especially if you have the side wall up. The cute little stakes provided are almost unless in our Florida Panhandle super fine 'sugar' sands. The first thing you need to do is run down to your friendly ACE hardware and purchase a set of the same type of stakes but in the 12" length. About $5 for 6 and you will need at least 8 stakes ($10 total). Or you can make your own stakes from ½” or ¾” PVC pipe with a cap on the end. See the attached photo. And while you are at it go ahead and spend another $20 for a decent storage bag that is not only large enough for the shelter once it has been used, but the strap will not rip off the bag at both ends the very first time you pick up the bag with the shelter inside shelter. I got a Magellan (Academy Sports store brand) 42"x15"x15" 'Canvas Barrel Duffel' that is a perfect fit. It comes with its on canvas storage bag that you can put the stakes 12" stakes in, room for a rubber mallet, and the end to end zipper is long enough that you can easily stuff a poorly folded shelter into it. And best of all it is made of heavy canvas with a heavy duty carry handle and a heavy duty carry strap that can be removed from the bag. Basically you need to plan on spending up to an extra $30 on this shelter in order to properly use it on a sandy beach and have something to store it in.

I love my new Sand & Surf Beach Shelter! This past weekend I took it to the lake on the back of our SeaDoo. It is super-light and compact in its carrying bag. I was easily able to bungee it onto the back of the SeaDoo, along with two folding chairs also in carrying cases. We found a nice beach on the lake and it was easy to set up. It has a lot of shaded room inside that kept us out of the sun all day. I really like the open feel, where the wind can blow through while sitting in it. At the end of the day it was easy to take down, stuff back in the carrying bag, and re-bungee to the SeaDoo. I can't wait to use it again!!!

I did A LOT of research before purchasing this beach shelter. We live in Florida, and every time we're at the beach I see plenty of examples of what NOT to buy! I had never seen anything like this, and I didn't want to spend over $100 on something we wouldn't find useful. I took my 2 y/o son for his first ever beach trip this May, and I am so glad we had this Pacific Breeze product with us! I practiced putting up and taking down the tent at home before using it; I easily did both myself! The most amazing part is that the tent goes easily back in the bag... EVERY TIME!! This beach shelter is very well constructed, super roomy, sturdy, and functional. The selling point for me was the retractable floor. The floor of the shelter easily unzips so that my son is still able to play in the sand while protected from the sun. Being a busy toddler, I know he would not have just sat under any other shelter to take a break from the sun. He was able to spread out with all his toys in the huge area of shaded sand provided by this beach shelter. Everyday people watched in amazement as I popped up the tent and then again when I took it down and rolled it up into the carrying bag... ALL BY MYSELF with toddler in tow! At least 5 people ask me where I purchased it every time we are at the beach. I can't say enough good things about this product and the customer service of Pacific Breeze. I'm so very glad I found and purchased this, and would recommend it to everyone!

I really wanted to like this product, but I can't recommend it since I don't think it's suitable for its intended purpose as a beach shelter, which is why I only gave it one star despite some of its positive aspects. First, the good: The shelter is very lightweight, pretty compact when stored in the bag, and sets up extremely easy with only one person. It's also reasonably sized that 2 adults and a child can fit inside it, depending on what other gear you put into it. I used it with my wife and baby and had a cooler, beach bag, and some other small items under the shelter, and we had plenty of room. I can't speak to long-term durability, since I only used it twice on a single beach vacation, but it seems like if you handle it gently it should last a while. The fabric, seams, and poles are lightweight, so rough handling or trying to stuff it back into the bag without rolling it tight enough first might damage it. Now, the bad: This thing does not stand up to even a moderate amount of wind, by which I mean more than a light wind but that would never run you off the beach - in fact, I'm talking about wind that simply feels good on a hot day at the beach and that would be expected even in good weather. The first time I used the shelter, there was little to no wind and I had no problems. The second time I used it, there was moderate wind, and the shelter poles bowed so badly that the shelter would constantly bow down on top of us. Worse yet, the wind put enough outward tension on the pole closets to the wind that it would unlock the folding joint, causing the shelter to collapse on that corner and not pop back up when the wind subsided - this made it completely unusable and we had to pack it up within five minutes of setting it up. I had the for corners anchored down with gear (rather than stakes or the attached sandbags) and they never came off the ground, so this wasn't a case of poor anchoring. I even tried anchoring the corner that kept collapsing with the included guy line, but it had no effect once the joint unlocked and collapsed. In fact, the instructions don't even recommend using the included guy lines and stakes in sand, so it shouldn't have collapsed even without them. I also didn't have the removable sunshade attached, which I would imagine would have made things even worse since it would have caught more wind. If you are using this as a non-beach shelter somewhere you don't expect much wind, then it's pretty great. Otherwise, it's not worth the money.

My wife and I live near a beach and I was looking to buy a shelter we could use. I had a few criteria I was looking for. Easy to setup/take down, light and easy to carry, and most importantly, able to stand up to the wind. The beach we live near can get windy during certain times of the year. This shelter has worked out great. I can get it set up in a few minutes, if you include staking it to the ground, and take it down in about 5 minutes. It is also light enough that carrying it the 6 blocks to the ocean is not a problem. The best part is the wind resistance. It comes with 8 stakes. One for each corner (which I haven't needed to do yet) and one the can be attached to cords that are attached about half way up the canopy in each corner. Staking these cords in to the sand is all I have needed to do so far. But I do like that it has the pockets that I could fill with sand if needed. The last time we used it, there was some wind. Not too bad, but we would have gusts that I'm sure were over 10 mph. The shelter would flex and bend in the wind, but the base didn't at all. I could tell it wasn't going to go anywhere. Definitely recommend this shelter to anyone looking to buy one.

First off this little sun screen thingy is pretty easy to put up. The middle mechanism is pretty innovative, you hold the cylinder and pull down on the string and it pops in place then you tie the string up. I've had this less than a year and used it about 7-8 times. It is great if winds are less than 10 mph, we took this out to the lake today and wind was at 15 mph and we had a gust that came by and it bent and broke one of the leg section that locks in place. I wish it was a little bit more durable or maybe make it so we can order the parts that is broken and make the parts replaceable. Theys no way to repair it, I'm pretty sad because its still new and we have to throw it away now. We will be shopping around on amazon again to see if there is another company that makes a more durable one.
