Not for the average family. Not even sausage rolls!!!
I had hoped it would be more of everyday cooking. I looked at a lot of books and decided to buy it because of the historical parts. If you want every day Scottish cooking this is not the book for you. Mince and tatties, storvies ,steak pie are not in this book. If you are a gourmet cook, yes rabbit and expensive game and seafood.

Lovely cookbook
This is a wonderful cookbook - brilliant recipes and photos. Very appealing. I bought it for my daughter but I think I will purchase one for myself. It is modern -- not just a "heritage" cookbook with mainly quirky things (like haggis). It has traditional recipes, but it also has much more.

great book
This contains UK and US measurements / heat settings, so there is no need to do the math on your own. Most of the recipes are easy enough to make, although a few of the foods are a little harder to come by on my side of the Atlantic.

Great book if you're exploring Scottish roots and...
My non-Scot husband has been looking at the pictures and descriptions saying, "oh, you can make this," over and over again. Really fast delivery, too.

Dunfillin Branble Pudding a GREAT hit!
We had our Annual International Family Meal & this year the theme was Scottish--I made a triple recipe & got rave reviews, with seconds being gotten by the grandkids!

My fav cookery book
I bought this for my cousin having used it myself for years. It’s got a lot of (most of them) Scottish favs, and lots of information about ingredients and food history in Scotland and where the influences came from. I’ve used so many of the recipes. Some of the ingredients would be hard to get hold of (bog myrtle, brammle liqueur, smoked venison, Scottish cheeses and game) but you can use alternatives I’m sure. It’s a fabulous book.

This is great for traditional and new recipes.
Good companion for cooking for Scottish celebrations, e.g. Burns Night, St Andrews Day and New Year's Eve. Well illustrated and clear guidance.
