X-MEDIA XM-NA3500 PCI 1-Port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter Card | Realtek RTL8169SC Chipset | Windows 11 & Linux Supported | Do Not Support PCI-Express(PCIe)

I have 3 older computers that have a mixture of both PCI and PCI-e slots but all the PCI-e slots were occupied. I needed a 2nd network card to access the "private" (intranet) Network that has our NAS devices as well as printers. One PC is running Windows XP with legacy hardware that cannot be migrated to a newer OS, one is running Windows 7 and the third is running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with KDE Plasma. All 3 can access the Internet through the Network Interface on the main board and the private network on these PCI gigabit cards. These were great and are inexpensive. There were immediately recognized in all 3 operating systems and required no drivers. I did have to use the netsh command on a command prompt for the Windows XP to remove the 2nd gateway which is a router that does DHCP. In Linux I found it best to find out which of the two network cards i.e. the one built in or this one had the lowest metric and assigned that one to the network with Internet and the other to the private network with no Internet. This method works the best for me and is persistent when the machines are up for days/weeks, etc ...

This PCI ethernet card fit perfectly in my 10 year old HP desktop PC. Windows 10 did not auto detect the card / board so I had to manually install the driver. The board comes with a driver disc with several drivers for different models of X-Media boards so make sure you select the Windows 10 auto installation program for driver XM-NA3500 if you purchased their PCI ethernet board. The X-Media box shows what model board it contains. Anyway, after I installed the driver I had to reboot the PC for it to recognize the board, then I inserted the router ethernet cable in it and my old clunker HP had internet access again.

I installed the card pretty much without issue. There is a driver disk which came with it, and to play it safe, I installed the driver from the disk. Probably not a good idea. Performance was down compared to my previous card. Really, you can ignore the disk (it's a bit dated). Windows will put a good driver in automatically, discovering the new equipment on boot up. To optimize performance though, I put in the most recent updated driver (using Snappy Driver Installer Origin - a free tool which has never failed me in situations like this). Once that was done, the card did its job with maximum efficiency and download speeds were right where they should be. So I give it a thumbs up.

I installed this into a 15 year old Dell desktop and it works great. I’m not able to utilize it to the maximum speed, but that isn’t at the fault of the card, but rather the PCI bus with its limitations. However, I am easily able to attain speeds upwards of 600 Mbps. Overall, while it isn’t the best value if you have a free PCIe slot in the same machine, it’s still good and it’s also easy to install.

Included CD had drivers for Windows 98 and it worked great. I can finally upgrade from dial-up to dsl!
