The Possession [Blu-ray + Digital Copy + UltraViolet]

I seen this movie when I had cable. I vowed to by it when I found it. I have always liked scary movies. It's also based on a true story.

This DVD came very fast, the slipcover isn't the best, but the disc and case are excellent

Immediately, I thought that Javier Bardem was in this film as the father character. I guess it's really Jeffrey Dean Morgan, a "poor man's" Bardem, although Mr. Morgan is pretty good here, at least with what he has to work with.Why is it that nowadays, most male leads in film have to be these overly sensitive whimps? It's actually getting a little irritating and distracting. And this trend continues here with Mr. Morgan's character. Yeah, he's strong I suppose when he needs to be, but for the most part, he just lays down and allows the rest of the cast -- mostly female -- to dominate the story. I'm sure that this is the way that the director wanted it, perhaps to pull in more of a female audience, but that doesn't mean that I had to like it. Where's Javier when we need him, the guy in "No Country for Old Men"? Now THAT was a strong male character. OK, you're right; perhaps he was a little too strong.But besides this major complaint, this film is actually pretty decent. The possession scenes are actually pretty scary, and I jumped a few times when I expected members of the family to get whacked. And I really liked the idea that the exorcist character was Jewish. After all, Satan is an equal-opportunity destroyer. Why do the Christians get to have all the fun?What's the theme of the movie? Well, I'm not exactly sure. But I can give you a couple of morals. 1. Don't put your hand in the cookie jar. It may ruin more than just dinner. 2. Don't dial and drive. You might get more than just a ticket.Probably more like a 3.5, but I'll round up today since I had a few good frights and I was mostly entertained. But can we get some strong male leads again already?

Not a bad film. Shows what can happen when you buy old stuff from yard sales not knowing what it is. Seen a few movies similar to this one but I think this one is better done than the others.

I recently watched a different movie about an exorcism, an ecumenical exorcism no less, which I found very amusing; especially since it was suypposed tone about the birth of a mythological Jewish demon known as a Dybuuk or something of that nature. It was like, hey everybody let's have an exorcism party, everybody's invited. very strange.anyhow, I enjoyed The Possession but I wish their weren't so many convenient plot holes but it does work.There are some glaring gaps in logic which I find impossible to reconcile; for instance, how is it that the evil trapped within the box can still exert itself to the outside world. In theory, the box is supposed to be a blessed, ancient Judaic holy vessel made specifically to contain the evil.It's too bad the dentist get's killed; he and the mother were made for each other. She sounded like a real pain in the you know what. The biological father is a very likable fellow although the extent of his patience is unreal.In the end we get a glimpse of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, the enclave of Orthodox Judaism and the scene with the elders is very believable and it makes sense. Deciding to hold the exorcism in the physical rehab room in the hospital basement wit all that screaming and mayhem going on is a bit ridiculous, I mean the entire hospital must have known something was going on but at least in The Possession it was a Rabbi who conducted the exorcism.The ending is an unpleasant surprise, the death of the heroic young Rabbi who follows his conscience (and finds a loophole in Rabbinical Scripture) rather than chickening out is heartbreaking, but there again is the plot hole that runs throughout the movie.

I found the film to be predictable and not in the slightest bit scary. In many places, I actually found it dull.So why the three stars then?Because one thing I *did* like was that this wasn't the same exorcism movie we've seen remade constantly since the success of the biggie in the seventies. This possession is different. It comes from the canon of a different religion, and it's brought about for different reasons from the ones we're used to seeing. As such, while it didn't entertain me per se, it *did* interest me. In fact, I found myself checking out Wikipedia during the film just to read up on the subject matter. That is way cool! :)Also, while the film was, as I said, kind of dull, to be fair it's not the actors' fault. The acting is quite competent, particularly the gentleman who played the father. I really liked his character and felt for him.So I guess I'd say watch it if it's on, but don't go out of your way to see it. This would be an excellent film to catch on Amazon Prime. :-)

I had never heard over this film until seeing it on Prime. The premise seemed pretty straight forward so I figured I'd give it a shot. I was not disappointed! This was a very solid watch with an excellent cast and premise.

Good movie about a young girl that get "POSSESSED" By an Evil Spirit. That was put into an Evil Spirit " Trap Wooden Box" . Until the Evil Spirit gets out of the Box.

Der Film gefällt mir sehr gut, da er nie an Spannung verliert, durchgehend einen roten Faden hat und man sich an manchen Stellen wirklich kurzweilig erschreckt. Da kommt eine Mischung aus Hellraiser und der Exorcist auf uns zu- der wirklich gut inszeniert ist, den Zuschauer mitreißt und an den Bildschirm bannt.Die Schauspieler spielen ihre Rolle sehr gut und man nimmt ihnen die Story wirklich ab. Der Film hat Tiefe, da man viel über die Hintergrundstory und die Protagonisten erfährt, dass verleiht dem Film zusätzlich Handlung und Story.Technisch-Bild und Ton sind sehr gut, die Effekte wurden sehr gut umgesetzt und in die Story integriert. Die Stilmittel um die Spannung zu halten sind wirklich sehr gut gewählt und zum richtigen Zeitpunkt in den Film integriert um Spannung zu halten und teilweise wirklich Schreckmomente auszulösen.Interessant ist auch, das sich der Film an die jüdische Religion hält und nicht nach Schema A und F der christlichen Religion geht.Da ich diese düstere Stimmung mag, mir die Soundeffekte und die teilweise handgemachten Effekte, sowie die Story sehr gut gefallen heben, vergebe ich diesem Filmchen 5 von 5 Sterne und ein Kauf- bzw. sehenswert Empfehlung.

The Possession was more than I had expected - it was very realistic - you felt like this was something that could truly happen to you - very eerie - very suspenseful - kept me on the edge of my seat - worth the watch - loved the actors - Jeffrey Morgan played an awesome dad - loved the chemistry between him and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick - the girls playing Em and Hannah did an amazing job, Em took on the role and made it very believable... I was very pleased with the delivery - arrived within days of my order and in great condition... Thank you for such great service :)

Esta película la ví en su día en cine y me encantó, como el precio no está nada mal la pedí y me ha llegado antes del plazo estimado y en perfecto estado

Traída por Ghost House, casa productora de películas como Boogeyman, The Grudge, Evil Dead, ahora trae esta cinta basada en hechos verdaderos, sobre una cajita de madera la cual alberga un demonio que quiere apoderarse del alma de una niña. Buenas actuaciones, buena trama, resulta muy entretenida, pero nada mas...son de ese tipo de películas que no dejaran huella por mucho tiempo, para muchos paso desapercibida, siendo una de las mejores de varias que salen del montón. Recomendada pero no para formar parte de la colección.
