Does what I expected...
I bought this to play old tapes and trust the Sony name. Not many products like this still have a tape player. Everything on it works great and the CD player can handle MP3 also for hours of listening. The radio is pretty good for reception on both AM and FM. This isn't really what I call a "boom" box since the enhanced bass makes little difference, but "booming" is not my interest. The sound is clear enough for me. The whole unit is compact and very portable.I could recommend it for anyone who needs a CD/MP3/AM/FM and still holding onto tapes with no way to enjoy them.

Good value
After looking at many other small home stereos & boom box I choose this. It is compact, easy to use, good quality & has very good sound for the size. I can make it pause & resume exactly at the same place if I push gently, or to one side. The other 50% of the time it resumes at the beginning of the track, as stated in other review. That is why I gave it 4 stars. It is nice to have the tape player, radio & CD all in one. Haven't tried the other options, happy with price, delivery set up. I listen to music, books on tape & radio whilst cooking or cleaning or meditating. Works for me.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT -- GET THE PANASONIC!
This was a big disappointment - maybe because I had also just received the Panasonic RX-D55GC-K I had ordered a week earlier. I was about to send back the Panasonic only because the AM/FM tuner was a bit weak. However, the differences in build quality and sound (both superb) have convinced me to keep the Panasonic. They don't make boomboxes with all these functions and good quality anymore. UPDATE on Panasonic: radio tuner is difficult for tuning; often, much static; also, the second one I ordered of this model came with a defective tape deck door; VCT will take it back; they seem like good people to deal with.At $132 (it's now available for less), the Panasonic is amazing and a tremendous bargain: solid construction, excellent sound, all the features of the Sony, PLUS a sleep timer and alarm function. The Sony sound is weak, even tinny, in comparison, the buttons cheap and hard to see, LCD panel far less easy to read, and the remote small, cheaply made. Although the box has the correct model number, I almost suspect it's not exactly the same as the one in the photo on Amazon; it's more a light grey and the grill over the speakers seems different -- maybe this one was made at a different factory. There seems to be a lot of this class Sony boombox (in particular, two models) on Amazon recently at wildly varying prices ($35 - $112). Whatever -- I'm returning this Sony forthwith and consider myself lucky to have the Panasonic at $132. I doubt I'll find a better boombox with all the features and a solid remote, and at this price, anywhere, but will still search for an additional model for a little better tuner (I can live with this one, but it's not the strongest reception). Goodbye, Sony!SUMMARY:SONY CFD-S07 CP: weak, thin sound, buttons too small and confusing, LCD display too dark, lightweight, so-so build quality, cheap, bare bones remote, good tuner, way too expensive for what it is (I paid $112 for this one; there are cheaper offers. It might be okay at $45). Oh, also, the tape player doesn't shut off at the end of the tape -- not good.PANASONIC RX-D55GC-K: I haven't tried out the MP3, USB,or other features yet so check other reviews for that; great for CDs and tapes, tape player does shut off when done, both forward and reverse, ok for radio, good sound with 5 equalizer settings or no-equalizer choice (I find this the best), sleep timer (!), well built (15 lbs, almost 3x the Sony), solid multi-function remote -- and I see this model is now available for $125 plus shipping from VCT, or a bit more from Amazon Prime with free shipping.Unless you need more-sophisticated features, or a much lower price, this is a no-brainer choice.

Very dissapointed
Sony Portable Digital Tuner AM/FM Radio Tape Cassette Recorder & CD Player Mega Bass Reflex Stereo Sound System with Program, Shuffle, Repeat, 20 Track RMS Programming, 30 Presets, LCD Display, Auto Scan Tuning & Audio in Jack to Connect any iPod, iPhon...Only thing good I can say about this radio is that it does work. But the sound quality is awful, in all formats. I got this for my wife to use at yoga, but one can't even understand the words it has so much background noise & hiss. I bought a 1970ish straight radio at a yard sale & it sounds so much better. No excuse for the sound quality not to be better on the Sony radio no less some 40yrs later. Should have returned it but was so confident in Sony I threw away the box & packing, then heard radio after wife got home & was so angry I just threw my hands up. Always had good luck with Sony but never again. So maybe you should listen to one first or just go with another kind. I realize this sounds angry but have had time to think it over, so decided to try to help others if possible, especially right before Christmas. Good luck

It's just a litte better than okay
It's very difficult to find a cassette player, and cd player with mp3 and best yet with a remote...Sony's own web site does not offer this model (out of country only) so if your looking for all of the above this is it....but sound quality not so much...the remote doesn't get you to specific cd tracks..and on pause it will not hold the exact portion of the cd only the chapter but I use it strictly for the kitchen (inside a cabinet garage) to listen to books on tape while cooking etc. so sound quality is not of the greatest importance. I replaced an older sony model with this unit and if the other model played mp3's I would have gotten the same model again as the sound quality was better and the remote worked better as well. If you don't need to play cassettes there are other much smaller units that sound better and play all types of discs...but this is about the best you will find that does it all at this time.

Great little box, Remote a must have
If you want the remote. If you want to be sure you get the remote you may have to pay a premium. I saw no other way to be sure.I bought this for my wife to use as a sound system for her PC. She listens to internet radio and the remote is just the thing.I am also considering getting one for my self since i use a 36" TV for a monitor and TV. If I decide after test that the sound quality is adequate. All in all it's a great unit that will still do cassette and CD which contrary to media hype is far from extinct.
