Take Me Back

We've only had this book a couple of days but my 8 year old is carrying it around with her when she is home and reading it voraciously. It's packed full of historical information and the style of the illustrations is wonderful. I enjoy looking at it myself but it's great to see my daughter like it so much that she is reading every page. The first day she read it, I came home to see she had created a story on the computer about the Fertile Crescent. Not having been much of a history buff, I asked her where she got the idea and how she knew about the Fertile Crescent, and she pointed to the pages in the book that discussed it. From a child's perspective, the illustrations and writings are done in such a way that they won't easily lose interest. I'm glad I purchased this book.

I love this book. I've read the whole thing as an adult and I've given a copy to my 8 year old nephew who is similarly enamored. He keeps it by his bed and pours over it every night. How do you cover the span of human history in one book and keep each page fresh and innovative- only DK can do it. They have a perfect mix of informative and irreverent. There are many kids nonfiction books that focus too much on being funny at the expense of either relevance or accuracy. DK gives a wonderful introduction to countless eras and historical figures while keeping you thoroughly entertained and interested in learning the real history.

Every page is a mash-up of visual overload! Hard for my learner, 7th grade, to read each page and understand the flow of information.

This book is a brilliant way to introduce the concept of "past" and "history" to a young student. The presentation is eye catching and the information brief but clear. These DK books are like informative magazines which manage to lure young internet uses into browsing books. We love them.

Very interesting and accurate account of some of thefrustrations and Individual Heroisms of the Vietnam War. Once I started reading, I could put it down! I was in Vietnam [Navy] for two years before this happened during the TET offensive in Jan 1968!

Was the gold cover with a cardboard wrap with the pictures on it.
